What a hidden gem in the Lower Garden! We stumbled across the Terrell House when making plans for a visit to New Orleans. There was a last minute cancellation that popped up, the reviews and price was right, so we took a chance on the B&B route. The Terrell House is a 3 story Italianate mansion built in 1857 (if I remembered that correctly) and perfectly hidden in plain sight on one of Uptown's main streets, Magazine. You're a short streetcar or Uber into the CBD or French Quarter and an equally brisk walk the other direction uptown to Garden District attractions. Beyond the main house rooms, there are also accommodations in the carriage house overlooking the courtyard as well as suites at the Creole house. There seemed to be a size and price for just about any traveler. Our room ended up being in the carriage house and was spotless, quiet and comfortable. The room came with everything you'd expect in a hotel room plus toiletries, coffee, snacks, water and sodas gratis. Service was excellent throughout our stay. They helped us grab luggage and unload the car as well as point me to open street parking nearby. Your stay also includes a complimentary breakfast which is not to be missed. Our two mornings had perfect starts thanks to a fantastic breakfast spread and visiting with other travelers. As long as there's an open room, I'm fairly certain the Terrell House will now be on our must stay list when heading to New Orleans. read more

My wife and I were married here in September, 2021. The place is amazing, and Linda and her staff made everything perfect despite incredibly difficult circumstances. Our wedding had to be delayed three times due to Covid. When our fourth date came up, we were dealing with the fallout from a hurricane two weeks prior. Linda was very communicative, understanding, and helpful through all of these challenges. I'm now back staying here again today, and am reminded how wonderful this place is, and how often we hope to return. read more

We stayed at the Terrell House some 20 years ago and decided to return. We were 1st in the 3rd floor Attic but after seeing the difficulty we had with the stairs, we are old, moved us to ground floor in the Carriage House and very nice of them to do that. Staff was very nice, very accommodating, thanx to all. The rooms were very nice and quite comfortable, location was very good for us. Short taxi to French Quarter and an easy drive to Mardis Gras Museum and Commander's Palace. Breakfast was a bit different, rather than a fixed meal it was like a mini buffet which seem to put off a guest or 2 but we were so stuffed from diners out, more than coffee was enough. We would go back but differently ask for ground floor room, those stairs are work. Let me say that if you have special food requirements mention that when making reservations, vegetarian, diabetic, etc., make arrangements beforehand. read more

Let me just tell you that I have never had a better stay at a B&B or hotel! I have a feeling I'm going to run out of space before I'm able to finish all the nice things I have to say about this place. From the initial booking process to the final checkout, Linda and her staff made our stay feel like we were in our own house. We were in town to check out wedding venues and Terrell House was on our list. After our first hour in the house, we were pretty sure we were going to book at Terrell House without even looking at the other venues on our list. Anica and Linda asked us each afternoon what time we'd like to have breakfast the next morning, and it was always hot & ready. Let me tell you, Linda's scones are like a taste of heaven. Everything we had to eat was fabulous, and they went out of their way to make sure the coffee was hot, there were always clean dishes, placemats, and a clean table for the guests. Anica might be the sweetest person ever - even with a demanding guest at the table with us, she was patient and more than willing to accommodate his nit-picky-ness. He was pretty annoying, and she didn't even seem phased. What I loved about the Terrell House was that it is outside of the quarter and comfortably situated in the garden district. It's QUIET. Even with other guests in the house it was never noisy. I can't tell you how much that drives me crazy in hotels and in places we've stayed on VRBO. I was able to sit in the courtyard and work on a painting each afternoon. It's so gorgeous and the sound of the fountain is so pleasing. We received a nice tour of the house and received a run down on wedding options, menus, etc. Needless to say, we put down our deposit to book our wedding there. I think my partner might have left her glasses there during our stay, so we may have to go back in a month to fetch them! Will never stay in another place in New Orleans again and are SOOOO looking forward to hosting our wedding in the Terrell House. Five stars...yes Yelpers, this IS as good as it gets! If you are looking for a beautiful place in the perfect neighborhood (quiet, yet near some fabulous restaurants and music), then I strongly recommend Terrell House. This B & B is absolutely gorgeous and Linda is a spectacular hostess. Linda and her staff make you feel welcome and will accommodate your every need. Oh, and of course, one must meet the lovely Terrell House four legged ambassador, Stella. What a charmer. I hear the breakfast is fabulous and Linda's scones are to die for. Sadly my schedule didn't permit stopping for breakfast as I was always in a rush. Maybe next time. I stayed in the Gold Suite, which was stunning. Plenty of room for my daughter and her boyfriend to visit without feeling the slightest bit cramped. As for parking, never had a problem finding a space. I went to a gorgeous wedding last night and the staff at this venue is amazing. One specific female server was so attentive to my friend, the mother of the bride, and i wish i could remember her name so she could get all the accolades she deserves. I do remember that she water's plants at other businesses during the day, so maybe that will help. my street cred: i stay at hotels about 3 nights a week. overall: seriously...wtf. hotels must be ripping everyone off sooooo much. 1) this place is cheaper than the hilton's and marriott's in the area 2a) this place's breakfast does not even compare to hotel breakfast (terrell house breakfast is way better than hotel breakfast). 2b) the coffee and tea are organic and the variety is amazing. the eggs were phenom, the potatoes were phenom, the bacon was way better than even what the nicest marriott has given me. 3) the service was outstanding was here for a wedding and the whole stay was more than i could have asked for. bravo terrell read more

The Terrell House is the best B&B experience we have ever had, we had the bridal suite which is big and beautiful. The house is clean and has a kind and helpful staff. Breakfast both days was fresh and delicious. The location was excellent and the house was peaceful and relaxing. There is a pretty courtyard to relax at anytime and the home has common rooms that are warm and beautiful. I am a bed and breakfast snob. It doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to be "right". I searched all the review sites, and decided that The Terrell House was the place for the Garden District part of my week stay in New Orleans, and I'm so glad I did. It's in a great part of Magazine Street, walkable to the street car, dining and to shopping. Let me just say that The Terrell House looked lovely online, but it was simply exquisite in person! Pictures can't do it justice. You'll see! Linda really takes pride in her house, and it shows in her excellent taste in decor, art, and creature comforts such as high end mattresses, and linens from heaven... You don't feel like you are being watched or can't use any of the furniture, but if it was my house, I'd be following everyone around to make sure they didn't hurt anything! Ha! I just can't stress enough how beautiful this bed and breakfast is! I wanted for nothing while staying there. I also really like that Linda is there when you want her, and well, you know... She was also very helpful by email with all my questions, and answered me very quickly. Breakfast was very nice, with the highlight of a different kind of grits dish every day. I have never had much interest in grits, but let me tell you these were scrummy! They are flexible a bit with breakfast time, and ask you about that. I am easy, yet it was nice to be asked. Ice, soda and water are plentiful at all times. We stayed two nights in the amazing Gold Room that had a charming attached room with daybed, and as I booked at a busy time of year, I did move on my last night to The King Suite, which was equally amazing, and I was very happy that my Husband and I got to stay in another one of their fabulous rooms! Linda was very considerate about the move also... My Brother stayed in the apartment they own across the street. I cannot stress how unbelievably stunning THAT place was! I would live there! And last but not least, the prices-so fair it's not funny! If you stayed in a bed and breakfast in California of that caliber, if you could even find one, well, I don't want to give Linda any ideas, so let's just say the price would be double at the very least... This is difficult to write because we had such a good time and now I think we both feel emotionally attached to this place. First off, the place it beautiful, well kept and in a very good part of the city to be able to decompress from the craziness. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff...Alex is sous chef and was great at getting us setup and sharing his knowledge of the city, places to go and see etc. Shannon, the chef at Terrell is simply an amazing person. She was happy to direct us through the culinary experience that is New Orleans from high end, high dollar to hole in the wall places you'd have kicked yourself for missing. Chef Shannon is now what I call a personal friend. Funny and outgoing, she whipped up amazing breakfast every morning, from whipped grits to homemade coffee cake. If you're into cuisine or just want to know nice places she's always happy to share and please TAKE HER ADVICE. The problem now is if/when we ever return to "The Big Easy", we basically have to stay here as anything else will seem like a let down. From Magazine street it's a short 4 block walk to the Trolley where for 3 bucks a day to can go to the French Quarter, Market, virtually anywhere else in the city. Being in the garden district is beautiful and you can walk the short distance down Magazine to various shops and restaurants. Say hi and give a pet to Jubilee while you're there :) read more

What a beautiful home tucked in a quiet, safe neighborhood! I attended the Morris-Foret wedding reception here last night and had so much fun! It's very cozy, inviting and elegant! The food which was prepared by the b&b was even better! I didn't get a chance to stay in one of the rooms but peaked inside a few upstairs and immediately wanted to move in! The absolute best. Magazine Street is busy, but not too busy, neither loud nor traffic-y. The Terrell House is an oasis within New Orleans. The courtyard is lush with several tables for relaxing and a fountain in the middle of a cool brick patio. Each room is decorated to a " T" with every amenity to make a guest comfortable. You'll wake up to fresh coffee and a home-cooked breakfast served with snowy linen and gleaming silver. Truly restful. read more

Absolutely one of the best experiences for myself and my family. This review is waaaaay overdue. We arrived to Terrell House for a wedding. The place is spectacular. Like stepping into the 1800s, except with all the modern accomodations (AC, etc). Linda, the owner is a sweetheart. She's a wonderful and kind person with a whole lot of patience for a 16 month old that thinks every sphere shaped object is a bouncy ball. Every morning the chef waited for us to come downstairs before putting out some delicious, authentic Louisiana food. Seriously...it was exceptional. More of awesome treatment...skipping to the end. Most of us stayed at the Terrell House (oh those amazing breakfasts!!!), but it was also the location for the wedding ceremony (Courtyard is beautiful) as well as the reception and dinner! Accommodations, food, service: EVERY detail was taken care of by Linda and her staff, as if it was for their own family. We could NOT have asked for anything more special! Our five days at Terrell House were great fun. The location on Magazine in the Lower Garden District was much mellower than the Quarter. A great location to chill after running around NO. The BnB has a relaxing patio area that was great for DIY happy hours. The rooms are great, particularly the larger ones in the main house. Very high ceilings and all the furnishings you would want in a classic NO residence. The breakfasts, as noted by others, were a real highlight of the stay. We had some vegetarians in our group and the folks there made special veg-friendly versions of most dishes. The food we had there was among the best we had in NO. read more

The Terrell House B&B was a fabulous experience. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting New Orleans that is looking for a more unique place to stay in a quieter part of the city. My husband discovered Terrell House after doing a lot of B&B online searching for NOLA. We ultimately chose them because of all the wonderful reviews and the pictures online. The crazy part is, while everything seemed great online, none of it does it complete justice-you have to experience it for yourself! We were greeted by Linda, the owner, upon arriving. She gave us a brief tour, answered some of our inquisitive questions about the house, renovations, etc, and then were shown our room. She was very flexible with whatever time we wanted breakfast, which comes with your reservation, which we thought was quite considerate. Speaking of breakfast, it was just absolutely excellent both mornings. My husband and I both commented that she could be a chef, the breakfast was that good. It was a nice assortment of fresh fruit, cheesy grits, scones, french toast and an egg souffle type of baked dish. We were pleasantly surprised at the delicious offerings. We stayed in one of their King Suite rooms, and it was wonderful. Very comfortable room with a great king bed and linens, walk in shower, working wifi, and high windows that let in great natural light. It was our first time staying at a B&B and we were understandably concerned the other guests could be noisy, or we'd wake people up when going/coming...not the case. The house was pretty quiet, kept at a cool temperature (very important in the early September high humidity days!), and just overall very beautiful. It is clear that when Linda renovated it, she didn't cut any corners--every finish and decoration is fabulous. The only downside is grabbing a cab isn't as easy staying here as it would be if you were staying at a larger hotel on Canal Street in the French Quarter. But, the quietness and quaint B&B experience at Terrell absolutely made up for that. We both highly recommend Terrell House. In fact, we hope to go back again someday if we are headed back to NOLA! read more

If I ever go back to New Orleans, this is the place where I would stay. My boyfriend and I lodged here for one week (June 24-July 1, 2015) and it was an absolute dream. After a long day of walking in the crazy, crowded, humid streets of New Orleans, I could hardly wait to get back to our cool, welcoming room. The best part of the Terrell House is the breakfasts. Each day there is an egg dish which rivals any 5 star restaurant, a sweet treat and fruit. We also had coffee and juice. There is an onsite cat named Jubilee who was the sweetest thing. Shannon and Alex were perfect hosts offering up tips, ideas and even giving us a ride one rainy morning. I recommend this place very highly. read more

(This is the first review I've written about a place of accommodation) When I met my wife, Panagiota, she'd spoken quite often about her long-harboured desire to visit New Orleans, Louisiana. She was enamored by the sights of the beautiful French-inspired architecture, the sounds of jazz music carried on the warm, humid winds trailing the route of the Mississippi River, and the aroma of a veritable cornucopia of cuisine seasoned so well, that you get stomach pangs from even a magazine photo. Then, she discovered that I'm from Baton Rouge and that New Orleans was basically a hop, two skips and one really long jump from my old stomping grounds. That was all the excuse she needed - she knew she'd have to go...especially since her husband (that being me) would have the opportunity to show her his home state, and best of all, the French Quarter. Needing a place to stay, we went online, scouring through pages and pages of options. Do we want a hotel? Or a B&B? Or will we stay with family? Well, strange enough, for each leg of our journey, they all would end up being options. But for New Orleans, my wife said she wanted a B&B...something with history and character...and good food. And lo and behold, we happened upon Terrell House, the second-happiest mouse-click I've ever had (only because the first-happiest was 7 years ago, when I accepted a random Facebook friend request from some really pretty Australian woman who would end up becoming the love of my life.) First, the accommodations. There is a main house, then there's another two houses across the street, one of which contained the suite that Panagiota and I had (aptly named, the 'Corner Store'). Located on the corner of Magazine and Euterpe Street in the Garden District, this B&B is the prime setting for what I can only interpret as a steamy Southern romance novel starring me, my wife and an order of beignets. It is renovated using a beautifully homogeneous blend of Old World charm and New Minimalist design, with colours and materials coordinating so well, I wanted to take every aspect of the place and build my own home with it, right down to the chandeliers and the tall, ominous cypress doors. The kitchen/lounge room was nicely appointed with beautiful stone countertops, shiny, almost fingerprint-proof stainless appliances and a sofa so comfortable, I'd cocoon myself on it while binge watching Law & Order: SVU (which is the best of the series by far). The bathroom was downright gorgeous, with every accouterment available, including dual shower heads that gave it the most spa-like feel I've ever had, which was amplified by the provided cotton robes whose fabric softness implied it must have been woven only three days prior to our arrival. The bedroom, with it's wrought chandelier and soft dimmable lighting, set an atmosphere so romantic that my wife and I spent every spare moment (CENSORED CONTENT!) We ventured into the main house for breakfast, where we met some of the most delightful people who were guests of the other rooms and suites. The food was pure Southern charm. Warm, flaky biscuits, fluffy eggs, crisp yet tender bacon, and a breakfast quiche that I would actually have risked death for by slapping one of my progenitors...in the face...hard. From there, we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere that Terrell House provided, from it's historic qualities to it's beautiful courtyard, to meeting the staff who after this visit, I would be proud to call family rather than just employees. Considering their professionalism, jovial demeanor and the fact that they were just so damned polite, returning to Baltimore (where I currently live) seemed like I was cosplaying Dante in preparation of my descent into the 6th circle of hell, by comparison. I used to look at romance novels as a sort of overly fantastic blah-blah-blah that could never be based on fact, simply because the players were too dramatically animated and the setting was too perfect to ever prove viable in my plane of existence. I am happy to say that I have never been so elated at being wrong, as Linda and her staff have proven to me that not only are romance novels viable, but for one beautifully rainy weekend, my wife and I actually lived one... read more

Amazing little get away. We spent a lovely weekend gathering with a group of friends here and loved the hospitality, food and accommodations. This is a gorgeous Victorian with a fountain in the courtyard- close to all the sights but away from hustle of downtown, so quiet and incredibly relaxing. The dining area is really nice and can fit a large group (we enjoyed a catered dinner there). I would highly recommend and plan to return. If I could give Terrell House 10 stars I would!! I don't even know where to begin with this review. I held my wedding there on 11/9/13. As an out of state bride (but lover of New Orleans), I was quite nervous prior to the wedding because there are so many small details that go into planning. However, Miss Linda and Miss Annikka were absolutely AMAZING!!! So incredibly patient, kind, responsive, professional, hospitable.... the list goes on. I spoke to Miss Linda mostly prior to our arrival and she is simply a joy to work with-- anytime I had a question about food, flowers, budget, etc., she was quick to answer. About two weeks before the wedding, her assistant Miss Annika got in touch with me and boy, she is a total Godsend-- almost like a second mom once we got there in New Orleans. Her presence just calms any nerves you have about the wedding. My family also noted how AMAZING Miss Annikka was to them-- always smiling, answering questions, finding cabs, helping with the rehearsal-- she is a total wonder woman (truly a gift to any bride about to get married)! Her and Miss Linda know how to execute a wedding! And Glenn, Miss Annikka's huband, was a great bartender to boot. I could literally write an essay on how amazing they all are. And let me tell you about the food-- Miss Shannon has it going on! I think I am addicted to her grits and currently having withdrawals. The family that stayed at the Terrell House made it a point to come to breakfast everyday, which can be very hard when you are in New Orleans and there is great breakfast everywhere-- but you can't beat Miss Shannon's food. Even my aunt who is a chef was sincerely impressed. At the wedding, we got TONS of compliments on all of the food. FIVE STARS!!! And then there is the actual premises of the Terrell House-- SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! Literally, Gone with the Wind beautiful. All of of guests couldn't believe we found this place. The courtyard where we had the wedding is just magical. And yet, it isn't overly ostentatious-- it simply feels like home, granted a home that is much better than your own, lol. Since the wedding, many of our guests have remarked that this has been the best wedding they have ever attended. And in all honestly, I give the credit to the Terrell House and their amazing staff for making out special day so incredibly unforgettable. I was at the Terrell house at the end of November 2012 with a large group. We had the whole house to ourselves. Linda and Anica were perfect hosts and very friendly. I have a wheat sensitivity, which Anica bent over backward to accommodate with gluten-free options. She prepared some of the most delicious and gourmet meals I've ever had. Wonderful property. We're just ending a nine day stay here and can't say enough about this property. The "staff" is wonderful from the people who clean the room to the gardener and cooks. We especially appreciated Chief Shannon. She is an outstanding chief. If she where the head chief at a restaurant I'd be a regular. In addition, she made our stay wonderful in many ways, including bringing a plate of homemade sweets on her day off (Christmas day no less) and leaving them in our room along with an insert from the local paper of the top restaurants in New Orleans. She had great suggestions for local eateries and activities and went out of her way to call to find a venue where we could listen to jazz before dinner. In terms of our room and the property, the public space is beautiful. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. It has two large chairs so we were able to comfortably read and watch television. The location, in the lower Garden District, was perfect with easy access to all the major attractions. You can walk out the door to Magazine Street and shop for many blocks. I highly recommend the Terrell House. read more

The breakfasts were the best meals we had in New Orleans -- fresh biscuits, grits, eggs Benedict, bacon, etc. I will always remember Terrell House for the delicious baked bacon and fresh butter and jam they served. We just returned from our first trip to New Orleans. We spent two nights in the Terrell House and two nights in the french quarter and, in hindsight, we wish we would have stayed at the Terrell House the entire time! It was that enjoyable. From the initial booking online to our checkout, Linda and the entire staff, especially Arthur, made us feel at home and so welcomed. Our luggage was lost for the first day and they provided essential toiletries and offered laundry services. The yellow room was comfortable with just the right combination of classic and modern amenities. We loved the location of the room and would be happy to stay there again. Linda and Arthur helped arrange a special surprise in the room for my husband's birthday when we arrived and were happy to help make this an extra special first trip to NOLA for us; although, I get the impression all of their guests are treated this way. And no review would be complete without a comment on the breakfasts, which were fantastic! They accommodated our dietary restrictions, gave us lots of flexibility on when we could eat, and the food was amazing. The setting - in the great room of the house - is really breathtaking. A rainy day could easily be spent here, reading and occasionally pausing to take in the many antiques and pieces of art that adorn the room. When we go back to NOLA we will stay here again! I happened into the Terrell House (Garden District) because the more well-known B and B's were booked. I have 2 criteria when I spend the night away from home, a comfy bed and a quiet room. My husband and I stayed in the White Room (with "orphan beds"). Mattresses were excellent, the linens, just right and the room was pleasantly quiet. It was beautiful and understated. The grounds were lovely and the main house was gorgeous. Expect one of the best breakfasts ever! The creme brulee french toast is not to be missed in this lifetime! We're not big fans of regional cuisine, but our breakfast was worth every gutbusting calorie. Having never been to NOLA previously or much less stayed in a B&B, you'd think I might be inclined to exaggerate my rating. However, Terrell House AND its staff were no less than amazing! Granted, the manager that we dealt with was in transition to another career at the time, both she and the chef were nothing short of gracious, personable and downright hospitable. My wife and I (along with three other couples) chose this B&B for our stay during the 311 Day celebration in March. We may not have been their typical caliber of guests, but that didn't seem to bother them. They were able to accommodate our friend's gluten intolerance for each breakfast (which were very flexible in scheduling), and the food was outstanding. Our stay included several late nights out on the town, but access to the house and courtyard after hours was no issue whatsoever. They even worked with a local shuttle/limo service to arrange transportation to and from New Orleans Arena for all eight of us on the night of the concert. It was a truly remarkable experience. I would definitely stay here when we venture back to New Orleans. read more

Great weekend getaway at the Terrell House! It is located in a quiet area which is a nice change from our hotel last year on a busy street near the French Quarter. Parking on the street was never a problem. The house is less than a mile from the WWII museum and an easy walk. We chose to drive to our other destinations mostly because it was raining. After a hot day, it was nice to return to the house and have cold water bottles available. The breakfast time was flexible, allowing us to eat when we were ready. The only negative comment we had, and this was very minor, was the breakfast. While we appreciated the southern breakfast our first morning (biscuits, grits, and grillades), we would have preferred a more traditional breakfast. The second morning we opted to visit our favorite beignet restaurant. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year! read more

Wow!! Where do I begin?!?! Let me start with... The Terrell House was exceptional!! Truly a 5 star experience. We will without a doubt stay here again and have already recommended the Terrell House to several of our family and friends. The owner, Linda and her husband, Dr. Ed were remarkable hosts. Linda truly cares so much about the guests that stay here. She made her home feel as though it were ours for the several days we were there. The breakfast each day prepared by Shannon and Alex was amazing! We looked forward to our meal every morning. The rooms were exceptionally clean and decorated to perfection. It was an ideal blend of modern amenities (updated bathrooms and super comfy beds) yet it still maintained the classic touch from years past. If you are searching for a B&B to stay at or even a hotel... look no further. The Terrell House will not disappoint! Since the opening of Terrell House about ten years ago, my husband and I have enjoyed its superb level of hospitality and gracious accommodation and its excellent location in the Lower Garden District. We look forward to every new stay. We always refer our friends, especially those who are visiting New Orleans for the first time. We stayed at the Terrell House for a quick weekend get-away. The Terrell House Bed & Breakfast MADE our trip. The house itself has the New Orleans elegance and character and is in a lovely part of town close to local transportation, but the service and cooking were really what made our experience extraordinary. The lovely ladies running the B&B were not only welcoming and friendly, but they went out of their way to be helpful. They explained how to get in and out of the city easily, and even made our dinner reservations when our original plan fell through! The breakfast was so delicious I wanted to stay another day just to enjoy the cooking one more time! I feel comfortable saying that if we had stayed anywhere else, our trip would not have been so wonderful. read more

I was staying here with my Mom and I assumed it would be just a regular old fashioned bed and breakfast. I was totally wrong. This place was no ordinary bed and breakfast. It was a beautiful place. Gorgeous on the inside and very pretty on the outside. The Terrell House felt very "homey." Not only was this place amazingly beautiful, but the service was terrific. The owner was so nice and gave us great recommendations for places to eat. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. They were very talkative and gave us good restaurant choices. The cleaning staff was so sweet. They introduced themselves and acted like we were family. Also the Terrell House is right near shopping places and great restaurants in New Orleans. I would 100% suggest staying here. Absolutely had an amazing experience. read more
