I went to jail for a year. If I would've gone with a public defender and pled guilt I would have got a year. Complete waste of $3500. He also asked me to get letters from friends and family to attest to character as a good person who made a mistake and request leniency. As embarrassing as this was to ask, I did. The judge never got the letters, he forgot them. Not only was he late constantly, the day of my sentencing he actually told me to tell the judge he was running late.
