Out for an early morning breakfast I decided to try the food at Terrace. It's always been one of my local spots for a drink, but this was my first time trying food. I'd heard good things about their brunch menu, so I opted for a simple Egg on Toast. Couldn't fault it really. This has to be my favourite bar in Manchester Its the style i like the people i like and everything i love what a bar should be. Its super cool and probably one the coolest bars I've been in, Its super friendly staff and great beers make it even more special. Once you walk through the main door, its cool look strikes you and its like youre in some cool NYC style bar, well this is probably better than some Manhattan bars, Its old building look is great and love the industrial style look is great and i love it! Theres booths to sit around and loads of tables at the back or you can just sip you're beer at the bar. The music level was just right and could hear our friends talking well and clearly. Terrace is like an underdog bar in Northern Quarter, it is very low key (no big banners, posters, promotions etc) but the people who have been here love this place! The best thing about this place is you can never imagine how big it is from outside (looks like a small little entrance without shouting its name out). Situated right next door to tea cup and the heart of Northern Quarter this place is a new gem for me. I love the wooden interiors and soft background music (yeah you can have a proper conversation here). The interiors reminds me of modern day architecture meets medieval because everything is very straight lined here and it is very woody at the same time. The wood and soft yellow lamps gives the whole place a very warm and comfortable feel (Great for a Monday evening relaxing drink). The crowd again is a mixture of northern quarter hipsters (musicians artists etc) and Young Professionals living in the city. The mulled cider here during winters is absolutely delicious and so is the nachos :) They have a decent selection of bottled and draft beer. I have never tried the cocktails here but I have heard its good. I am almost a regular here and was surprised how I could never check-in here because no one uploaded this business (booohooo) so I decided to take the responsibility! :) Btw this place is so ghetto that they don't even have a website! :O (shocked and impressed at the same time) Verdict: If you are looking for a good place to go during the week after work or on a date then look no futher! read more

Terrace was one of the first 'exposed brick/original features' type bars that's opened amid Manchester's latest Northern Quarter renaissance and although only around a year old, it's already quickly spawning a number of imitators where the current NQ business plan tends to be: 1. Abandoned building needs doing up - check 2. Manchester city council say they're not issuing booze licences, so do a light snack menu to get around this - check 3. Make sure everything is fully exposed; so massive 100 year old pipes, overdose on bricks, gotta have wood - check 4. Have a good core range of craft beers, but as each new venue sets up, don't go too crazy with choice - check 5. Have eclectic DJ's spinning tunes that make you go "wow, I haven't heard this in a few years" - check And the good thing about Terrace is that they get all of the above right and have continued to enhance what they do throughout the past year with introducing a fairly comprehensive meal and snack menu (the pizzas are so so good), the beer selection continues to evolve - pump and bottles are growing week by week (helping support some good local breweries in the process) while also offering a good selection of standard lagers that makes it a place you can take your friends who haven't yet been caught by the craft beer bug. The main reason I like Terrace is that they can be an everyman to my socialising needs. I can hang out with a decent beer while listening to cool music; I can go with the girls from work for cocktails and still keep my mum happy with the wine menu on other visits; I can make it a place to enjoy a coffee with friends - in a nutshell, it's no stress, just a cool place to take a load off and really enjoy yourself! The atmosphere of Terrace I would describe as dark or possibly dank. feeling slightly worse for wear on Monday, this suited me fine. This also meant the only option for lunch had to be the Full English at £7.50. Both of us opt for the Full English, I ditch the beans because they are bullshit, and pair it with a pint of coke to avoid any potential unpleasantness. Total cost, £10.50, I wish I'd just paid for a proper pint. First thing we notice, no black pudding, this is bullshit. Check menu, apparently we needed to upgrade to the £9.50 breakfast to get that super food included. Putting the lack of black pudding aside, you've got a meaty sausage, some nicely done bacon, a decent run to the poached egg, a hefty hash brown, and some healthy shit thrown in there as well. Its a strong 7/10. Could have pushed to 2 slices of toast, giving the option of converting to a sandwich. Visited on a Wednesday to test out after these high star ratings. Things have changed someone since some of the reviews in that it's now quite obvious that Terrace is there! There's no massive signage but the masses of people will show you that you're heading the right way. Inside the decor is very NQ, as Jonny Q. mentioned - plenty of exposed brick and indie art work. Service behind the bar was quick and friendly, and we managed to grab a table quickly. The atmosphere was great for a Wednesday night; people were up dancing, the dj's were playing Motown classics and there was a real buzz. We only stayed for one drink due to impending sleep after a huge meal at SoLiTa, but I'll be sure to return. The Thursday hangover was worth it. read more

An attractive and spacious bar on Thomas Street in Manchester's burgeoning Northern Quarter. I've passed here many times at the weekend when it looks absolutely packed and therefore I've carried on by! However for an early evening drink on a Tuesday it was perfect. The bar is massively more spacious than it first appears. There's an excellent selection of both draught and bottled beers. I had a 355ml bottle of Mexican Pacifico which was priced at £4.20 A very pleasant bar, and one I'm sure to return to now I know how huge the place is inside. read more

Having been in terrace many a time in all states of mind ( sober to falling asleep to blind drunk ) I have finally found the right words to describe terrace ! The unsigned outside shop front style window is dark and mysterious . With a small ledge and school science lab stools you can only work out its a bar from the outside when you see somebody raise a glass of Amber coloured ale with a fluffy head ! I like terrace I really really do , but I can't find it in my too give it more than 3 stars . I know I should give it four but I can't even though I'll be back very soon ! My points mainly to reach its 4th star is employ some bar tenders that actually respect there customer if they do not fit in with the NQ vibe of the week ( this is me ) 9/10 of them are great you just get one that seems a bit short . Example being asking to look difference between two bottles of beer as I wanted the lower alcohol one and getting a sigh from the bar keep ! I've not tried the food but have been told it's good ! Cocktails in here are brilliant ant worth there money . Some bottled beers are a bit over priced even for central Manchester . My review for Terrace is unashamedly bias. A good friend of mine is a resident DJ and I know majority of the staff, (they're absolute sweethearts!) Unfortunately, on week-ends the crowd isn't everyone's cup of tea but that's the nature of the beast. On weekdays however it's as decent a spot for a meet-chat-drink-chill scenario as anywhere else in the Northern-Quarter. There is also an upstairs area for private hire which, in my opinion is one of the best venues for private Birthday parties/gatherings around. I can vouch for it as I've been to a few this year. Wrestling through the crowds on a Saturday night, it makes for a little oasis, with it's spacious demeanour (High ceilings et al) and a private bar to boot. As mentioned midweek is probably the best time to venture over yonder, but if you do decide to check it out on a weekend, make sure you get there fairly early. Went to Terrace for the Yelp drinks. Ive been a few times on a Saturday night but never in the week. Being Christmas time it was very busy and at first we were squashed on a small table. Luckily a large table at the back came free which gave us more room. I was drinking prosecco all night. It is only £3.30 for a glass so it would have been rude not to. Some chips appeared on the table after about an hour which was nice - they were good chips. Overall great venue and one I will visit more in the week. read more

I don't get out much, really. I mean, I do. But I am normally out so much in the day and at dinner time that I tend to be all tuckered out by 9pm and in my bed for 10pm. I was in Manchester for work and when it was suggested we go to this NQ bar for post-event drinks, I was up for it. We arrived and this place was LOUD. I mean, really, really loud. So loud you couldn't really hear when you were having a conversation unless you just spoke to one person. I can't really comment on the tunes because I don't remember them but I do remember enjoying the beers, the vibe and generally having a nice time. Some people commented that it was student-y but the crowd didn't seem that young to me. Maybe I'm going blind in my old age. Anyway, I don't know if I would go out of my way to go here when I visit Manchester again, but if I ended up here I know I'd have a pretty damn good time. read more

Terrace is a great bar, and I would've given 5 stars had the music not been so bloody loud! Great beers on offer here and some cool craft cans all at reasonable cost. Terrace also brings together a cool blend of people, it's not just your young folk or your couples, you have your hipsters, your groups of lads & lasses and everything in between. That alone makes it a cool place to hangout. I've only been here at night which is maybe why I complain about the music - maybe I'm just an old man, but I do still like the social aspect of being able to hear the person next to you speak. Apparently they do some nice grub during the day, so I may have to venture in and try that. All in all a great spot in NQ to grab a few beers! read more

I have been to Terrace a few times and every time the atmosphere is different. I've seen it in the quiet, chill-axed states where it is easy to get a drink, sit back and relax. I also managed to accidentally venture here on Terrace's 1st birthday - it was a Wednesday night, there was music, there was dancing, I didn't get home until very, very late. No matter what's going down, there is a good vibe in this place. The layout is interesting with two entry/exit points at either end of a very long room. There are seating areas as well as 'stand around and mingle' zones which makes it easy to come here with a group of friends or as a pair. The drink selection is good and of a competitive price to other bars in the area. They also sell food but I am yet to try it so can't comment. Looked decent though. The service has its ups and downs. A few times I have been served by really friendly and helpful staff but other times I have had to wait for a drink while the bar staff stand around having a bit of a chat. Last night was the latter - I had my order taken quite promptly by a staff member but she then proceeded to forget what I had asked for (a beer) and then stood around talking to another server while she held my drink in her hand. She was nice enough but seemed very distracted and quite grumpy. No smiles here. Terrace is a good option for a drink in the Northern Quarter and one of the nicer looking bars on Thomas Street. My friends like to suggest that we go here and I have to say I'm not sure why. I get the feeling that it has been considered a place on the up a year or more ago. What don't I like about it? It's devoid of atmosphere, a bit scummy and pretentious. The good things about if are the range of beers and on this occasion the bar staff did respond well when I raised an issue. For me to review Terrace at this stage probably wouldn't be fair as i only spent around an hour there, had one glass of wine (which was nice) and didn't eat any food. We were looking for a place to sit and chat to fellow Yelpers following an event and chose to go to Terrace, however because of the loud music (throughout the bar), this made having a chat very difficult and therefore wasn't appropriate to our needs for that evening. That's not their fault though surely. Soooo, lets turn this on its head. If you're looking for a lively atmospheric bar with plenty of room and seating with a DJ playing some excellent tunes on a midweek (Wednesday) night...then i can totally recommend Terrace. read more

Terrace or Terrache as my entourage like to refer is a place I have never eaten in which might be a shame I don't know, who knows?!?!? Well probably lots of other yelp reviews actually which you must read go read... NOT NOW, obviously silly, finish with mine first. The beer here is a nice selection, but being that we're in NQ if you don't cater to the Craft entusiast in a large way then you might as well not bother so it's no surprise. I usually use this place as a 'couple' of pints while waiting for a table at HomesweetHome or Almost Famous or a good meeting point before heading towards the cinema, it's usually busy, but not so busy you can't find a place to rest your pint. Staff can't really sat good or bad, maybe a little disinterested in speaking to the punters, but lets face it if you're after a deep n meaningful about beer you'd be in Port Street. It was a cloudy winter day in January, I found Terrace in Northern Quarter. It doesn't have a fancy front face but it opened a whole different world when you walk in. In the front part of Terrace, a few tables were scattered around the bar area. There are plenty of spaces in the back of the room as well. The decoration inside was based on the original bricks with some tasteful details and lightings, which created a relaxed and chilled atmosphere. I checked the menu and ordered an English breakfast with coffee. I was curious about the so-called Manchester sausage on the menu. The food and coffee are arrived in good presentation and everything was very well cooked. I had another visit on an afternoon after lunch with a friend. We had coffee and just wanted to sit down and relax. The coffee was alright and it was extremely cheap. I was so curious how could they support them in such low price until we came again at night another time. We came in for drinks after work and it totally transformed into a bar. Food was also served. I love Terrace delivered the spirit of Northern Quarter- cool, fun, funky, artistic and quirky. You could have breakfast/brunch here; hang out with friends over coffee and beers. It's also perfect place for working on laptop since the WIFI is fast and the seats are comfortable. It's also a great place to meet friends for drinks after work or for dinners. So I went here on Friday evening and Saturday. I must say I do like all the wood and its very relaxed. It looked like a guy was going to fall sleep in his chair a one point. The food is good, not outstanding. I had a cheese burger and it was nice and juicy and Himself had a steak and blue cheese pizza which was thin and tasty, the steak was rare. The wine and beer selection is good and they have some fun cocktails, himself had one with bubble gum ball on the top. He liked it, had two, it was far too sweet for me. They also didn't mind people coming in with their colour run kit on. The staff are very nice, they also have enough staff. On Friday there were lots of people behind the bar so I guess you won't be waiting for drink. The toilets are clean and with a handbasin in each cubical which is handy. read more

I really like this place. The decor is cool, the staff are friendly (haven't had any of the arsey-ness found in other nearby bars), there's well kept, well-chosen real ales and a decent booze list in general. Even when it's weekend-busy it's still got a good feel about the place unlike, say, Trof NQ, which should not be visited on a Sat night any more. Stopped by here on a recent Sunday afternoon during a long weekend trip to Manchester for Pride. My friends and I needed some delicious stomach-lining party fuel to see us through the evening, and this place proved perfect. After wandering, famished, around the Northern Quarter for a while we noticed Terrace, with it's smart industrial-style frontage. Inside, the industrial feel continued, with lots of exposed brickwork, wooden benches and low lighting. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and the staff were friendly (although the service was a little slow). The menu offered plenty of tasty-sounding burgers and pizzas, as well as Sunday roast options. After initially hovering over a roast, I opted for the cheeseburger with extra bacon. This came with fries, home-made coleslaw and a tasty salad, all served on a cool little tray. It was all really tasty and very filling - just what was needed. One of our group went wild, deviating from the burger-fest, and ordered a pizza topped with locally smoked meats, which also looked delicious. Terrace offers a pleasing array of interesting international beers. I washed down my burger'n'bits with a Sierra Nevada Torpedo (recommended to me), which was hoppy and refreshing. All in all, great little place and a good find. Would definitely recommend. read more

It definitely epitomises NQ hipster style, but there's a big range of bottled beers (including an 8% Japanese ginger ale) and decent looking food. Another great hipster hideaway in Manchester's Northern Quarter, Terrace is a nice restaurant/bar offering burgers, pizzas, sunday roasts and a great selection of craft and international beers. I had the beef burger with chorizo. I had actually ordered a chicken burger and chorizo, however was happy to eat this as I didn't want to wait and was ready for some food. I also was pleased to see they had the Sierra Nevada Torpedo so naturally ordered this too. It was 2 in the afternoon at this point so I thought this would be fine and it was pride! The burger was very tasty and came well presented alongside chips in a cup, salad and a homemade coleslaw. Service was a little slow and the did get my order wrong, however it is somewhere I would recommend, especially seems like a great place for an after work drink or even somewhere to meet friends before a big night. read more

Finally got round to review Terrace. Every time I have arrived the atmosphere has always been a chilled out atmosphere. Terrace is a place that you have to visit at least three times. Sounds bizarre, but hear me out. Visit one - mid week, early/late evening. Terrace is a great bar for that cheeky mid week drink. Perfect place to catch up with friends, with loads of seating given its size, nice warm atmosphere with music that's audible, but not so loud that your conversations are drowned. Visit two - weekend breakfast/lunch. Terrace has a brilliant menu serving pizzas, sandwiches, burgers and salads. It's often a place I'd take friends who were visiting Manchester for the weekend because I know everyone will like it. Visit three - 10/11pm Friday/Saturday. When the sun goes down, the RnB turns up. Terrace is absolutely packed at the weekend with a queue outside that can seem like it goes on forever. All the tables inside are shifted out of the way and replaced with a dj blasting your old (and new) school RnB. Great fun as a night out, but make sure you get there early; space is definitely limited. I suggest giving all three times a try to get the whole Terrace experience. read more

Really like this place...looks small from the front but there's a much bigger area round the back. Quite dimly lit, delicious cocktails, good variety of beers. Went in for Yelp drinks on a Thursday and we all sat on the long bench at the back. Had a hot cider since it was winter! Second time I popped in with some blogger friends and had the White Lady cocktail because I like egg whites. Had a mocktail for my second drink but it was a bit too lemony for my liking. DJ came on around 9pm so it was a bit loud for talking but good vibes. read more

Terrace is by far my favourite bar/club in northern quarter. I went there many times at weekends. They always play commercial R&B, hiphop, which are my favourite music for a night out. At weekends, there can be long queues outside the bar after midnight. I would say people there are from mixed background & mostly in their mid 20s to late 30s. There is a di & a small dancing area. People were always dancing there at weekends. I went there on weekdays a few times which were more quiet & chilled. On a Monday night, there were less than 10 people there, but it didn't stop me from having a beer & enjoying the music with my friend. read more

My wife and I were thoroughly impressed and amazed with this joint. We wanted a light lunch and some great drinks. For the first time all week on our holiday, after London this was the fantastic first experience of great and revitalizing UK: tap water, REAL craft beer, real cocktails, and REAL food. The Terrace also has such a great atmosphere. Dimmed lights and low music, with helpful and kind staff. This place MADE our whole trip today. Definitely come here. read more

A cool bar that is hard to find unless you have already been here, due mostly to lack of signage :) 'too cool' to have its name on it. As it does say Terrace on one side at least but it is missable as a location. However, we are here to review them for their service which I have always found very good, plus I am a fan of there big table at the back if you have a good sized group. It is a good space and I have to say it is always good to find a good cider on tap (yes I am descending into being a teen again, but I never had a good drinking sense, being more of a wine man). I liked the fact that unlike a lot of bars these days people did not pounce on your empty pint glass as it became empty (over zealous bar staff annoy me especially when you still have an inch of drink left in the glass). Terrace is yet another bar in the NQ that I tend to like less the later it gets though as the music is turned up to loud and it is hard to hear the fellows you have around you, but as a quick one stop, or an afternoon drinker it is a good stop off or start point. read more

There is a good selection of drinks, the beer has always been fresh when I've visited. There's never been much of an atmosphere when I've visited, and downstairs is a bit too dark in my opinion. Astonishingly poor bar service. Watched two bar staff serve one customer yesterday. She'd ordered two cocktails....then 15 minutes later (and several more people waiting) one of the staff shouted is anyone waiting to be served...! No I'm waiting here for a laugh you dozy gormless sod. However after having to voice loudly that me - the person stood in front of you for the past 15 minutes - is waiting next, none of the advertised ales were available so I had to plump for a fairly lacklustre pint of lager. Really cannot remember a more piss poor service experience than this in a so called bustling area. I can understand some people not liking their job etc but for crying out loud its a bar. Either get your act together or leave and let someone more suitable get the job.... Dear oh dear. Not many people know this but, Terrace Bar has probably the best cleaning company in city centre Manchester, no job to big kind of cleaning company. And yeah ok, late on a Friday and Saturday nights it can be a little wild/messy where isn't. Check out this bar mid week or weekend mornings for brunch and you'll see what I talking about. AWFUL. Myself and a friend ordered two sandwiches and a couple of drinks last Saturday. It was mid afternoon, so wasn't particularly busy. 25 minutes later our drinks still hadn't arrived so I went to the bar and ordered them myself. Arriving back to the table and one sandwich had arrived, there had been a mix up so we would have to wait for the other one. By the time my sandwich had arrived my friend had finished her sandwich, consequently I had to eat mine after. Ordered halloumi-was pretty average to say the least. Luke warm chips and a sad looking side salad. The waitress apologised and offered us a round of drinks, (2 beers) Went to pay the bill at the bar, the girl behind the bar had a face like a slapped a*** as though I had just asked her to perform life saving open heart surgery on a stray dog. I noticed that we had been charged for all of the drinks except one. One free gratis for an hour of misery. Terrace need to focus their energies on the conviction and less on the smoke and mirrors.
