Used to love this restaurant 10 years ago. Decided,because we were with family to try it again. We had 12 people but 4 children. The food was good not great. $14 each for Childrens spaghetti and butter, more than california prices. And a small bowl of pasta. We had a reservation at 6:30 didn't get served until 8:00-8:15. I saw most of our food on the counter and no one brought it to our table until I complained about it. Very disappointed. Waiter was not friendly seemed over worked with only 5 tables occupied in the restaurant. I realize we had a large party but an hour and a half to get your food is outrageous. Excellent food and wonderful ambiance. Love the 100+ yr old tree accented basket lanterns. Lighted agave plants and exposed walls. They surprised us with a little tasting of tortilla soup before our main meal came out. A nice touch. Food sourced from a nearby farm. We were there with a larger group so romance wasn't on the menu. But if you're a couple it would be very nice. We weren't able to order off the menu, had a fixed menu being in a group but the choices were very good. I had the Mediterranean fish & it was delicious. The beet salad was good as well. The service was top notch. I had a Malbec wine that was good & they also had a Spanish white that others said was good as well. The only downside was the flies. More on this later. We found out about the place through a video blog on YouTube, Claire Bahn. She had a video about top 5 places in San Jose del Cabo. As we trekked through the fun Art Walk, evading the owners of the pharmacias trying to sell us pain pills and Cialis, we found the restaurant not too far off the beaten path. The ambience was really calm and as we walked in we were greeted with a smile. The food was fresh and delicious. HIGHLIGHT The yellowtail tartar with toasted sunflower seeds was the best tartar we have ever had. We also had the caprese salad. I ordered the seafood linguini which had shrimp and mussels. I never had ordered muscles in my entire life, so I wanted to be adventurous. I read some reviews on Swarm that the shrimp is great here, so I took a chance. Glad I did! My wife ordered the sea bass. It was cooked to perfection, but could have used some herbiness or a drizzle of something to get another layer of complexity. I absolutely love this restaurant. Our friends took us here for NYE. We had such a lovely experience. The ambiance is beautiful and the restaurant is ran with heart. The romantic gardens, service and food were all amazing. We loved it so much that we went back again the following week. We've been in San Jose del Cabo for a few weeks now and have been to many restaurants here and this is hands down one of the best in the area. Our server Jose and Jerome were so great, they know how to make an evening feel special. The jumbo shrimp appetizer, grilled salad, and steak entree were some of our favorites. Beautiful, enchanted garden. That's really all you need to know. The food was good...super fresh, but could've have used a bit more seasoning for my taste. Beautiful presentation. Wine list limited, but the management went out of their way to please our group. So service A+. I was there for a girls night, but it's terribly romantic, perfect for a date night/special occasion. I like the authentic flavors here that are not overdone and think the chef is very talented. I ordered the jumbo shrimp with plantains and black beans and my husband ordered the fish of the day-both excellent. We ate outside which is generally very pleasant but there were a lot of mosquitos given the time of year- so wear pants! Also while I like this place very much, they said as we were trying to pay that their credit card Machine is broken- that should have been said at the outset since tourists generally pay by CC. I had to go the ATM to get Cash which has heavy surcharges. I wasn't clear about the reality of the situation but restaurants should have a backup CC payment system ready if they want quality diners to come back. read more

VERY, very glad we decided to dine at Tequila. Definitely deserves a 5-star rating. We had the crab cake appetizer that was unreal and the clams that were perfect. My wife had the linguini dish which was nice but will have a different dish next visit but the seafood in it was awesome. Now... I had the catch of the day which was Ahi Tuna. It was a big portion as shown in a he photo. I didn't want rare but medium-rare. They nailed it! The herb seasoning was so good. I encourage you to give this a try. Feels like a secret garden hideaway. Very calm vibe, the way dining should feel. Step down into this oasis with good service. Stumbled into the this location literally. How enjoyable a fall from the street can be. It's also about the food. The fresh fish was cooked to perfection, very very hot, open charcoal flavor without a hint of being overcooked or dry in the least. The crab cakes were really good, and the caesar salad was good too. I had the ribeye steak with garlic mash potatoes and zucchinis. The steak was good, big but lots of fat:( the zucchinis and carrots were really nice but the garlic mash potatoes were great! Ambiance is really cool and they supply several fans and even purse racks! Cool greenery and several glass lights hanging from branches. They play music and really cool chairs. if you're looking for a good steak in san jose del cabo, this resataurant is the place to go. it's in a lovely tree filled graden with a lovely atmosphere. our waiter francisco was super and so was the food! it was called tequilla many years ago but during covid the name was changed to tamarindo. it's since changed back to it's original name so people might not know that it's the same place. amazing tenderloin and the new york strip steaks and their specialty drinks are, as the name might imply, margaritas and mezcalitas with an assortment flavors. the classic margarita was great but the roasted pineapple mezcalita was unbelievably great! definitely worth a visit. read more

I don't know how this place has escaped us for 20 years. It is humble at the street until you enter a beautiful quaint outdoor courtyard. We did a tequila tasting which was informative and fun. We had already eaten but decided to try the shrimp bomb, then ordered the stuffed poblano and taco trio..... and omg the food is out of this world! The hospitality is also impeccable and we felt at home even though we were the last ones there and wasn't rushed. You need to go here. This place is all about location and while its not much to look at from the outside, follow the smell inside for delicious open fire cooked seafood, polenta, rice and beans. They are not surprisingly excited to serve you a tequila based drink, but they also had a pretty solid wine list as well. I got tequila shrimp which was great. My buddy got some other seafood that she gobbled up incredibly quickly. More than the food, this cool backyard gardan where the tables are set up is to die for. You feel transported out of Baja into a land of awesome music, attentive service and great liquor. My only regret was that we didn't find this place sooner. This used to be our favorite restaurant. We've come here every two years since 2014. The menu is completely different and, in our opinion, worse. It used to have more of a variety of options and now it's basically the same thing in multiple ways. We didn't get asked for refreshers on our drinks, we didn't know who our server was, they couldn't understand a word we were saying which made it super difficult. When we were given the bill, we never were given a place to sign or put a tip, but it doesn't matter because the tip would've been $0. Definitely won't be back here, super disappointing as this was our favorite restaurant. In addition, when three of us were given our starters, the other two in our party were given their entrees. They had to eat their meals before they got cold, so they were finished with their meal long before the three of us were even given our entrees. Disappointed in the service, menu and attitude. Amazing! Just stumbled upon Tequila on a very sleepy Monday evening in San Jose del Cabo. Very discreet, we walked in expecting to sit inside and then bam - the most beautiful back patio just for us! We were the only ones there all night! In addition to the atmosphere, the service was seriously impeccable. They had the nicest, friendliest wait staff. And the food. The FOOD! We got a complimentary squash and truffle taster and super delicious bread with basil. Fish tartar and tequila shrimp were amazing. I'm going to be dreaming about those plantains for days. One of the gentlemen called us a cab at the end of the night and really, we were so thankful. Yes, it was pricier than we planned, but so worth it for a nice special occasion. This was such a great find! In the inside you will find a hidden gem! The restaurant has a garden inside which made it very romantic for dinner! The service was impeccable! As far as the menu goes, it is kind of pricy! We decided on ordering 2 appetizers and 2 tamarind margaritas and our bill was around $50. If you come here it has to be for the experience! The linguine with seafood was loaded with nice-sized shrimp and more than we could eat. Flan for dessert was superb....one of the best I've every had. All for about $175 for 3 of us. We took the Urbano bus from our resort and a $7 US taxi ride back. We asked our waiter to arrange our taxi and he kindly got us the best rate. Firstly, this place has amazing food with robust flavors; everything from the Arugula salad to the Octopus to the Short Rib to the flan was made perfectly. The atmosphere is quaint sitting in the patio listening to soft acoustic guitar being played live. And the people are genuinely friendly and hospitable from our waiter Fransisco Nestor who patiently explained every ingredient to us to one of the owners who the previous day went out of his way to help us. I'm not sure whether to give a good review or a bad review to this place. I have to say that the ambience is really nice, the menu looks great, and the food was very tasty. I was disappointed with the final step if you will. When they bring you the check, they have a stamp that says that you cannot leave tips in the credit card. Most of us hardly carry cash anymore and basically do transactions via credit card, especially in an expensive restaurant like this. I have been to places like tacos Rossies which is a very local place and I was able to leave my tip on the credit card and they even brought the terminal to me at the table. At Tequila, I only had 60 pesos, that was all the cash I had, so I took everything out of my wallet and put it in the check with my signed receipt. As I'm walking out the restaurant, waiter comes running and begins to tell me that in Mexico tips were higher and since I knew where he was going, I explained to him that I was glad that he pointed this out and that the problem was that I could not leave a tip on the credit card. He said Oh and that was the end of the conversation. Having said that I feel like it is deceiving and wrong from the restaurant to do this to its employees and also to the customers. Again, the food was expensive but good. This place only caters to Americans, but then they need to allow for tips. I will never be back. read more

I have been using the App, G. Spotting, for years. GP has never steered me wrong until now. We arrived at 6:45 for a 7:15 reservation. We were seated fairly quickly. They immediately took our drink order but we did not receive our menus for 20 minutes. Big mistake, don't order an appetizer. The staff while friendly seemed confused about the menu and their role in the restaurant. We did not have one consistent waiter. If we asked for something, it was a 50/50 chance we were getting it. When the food finally came, I have to say it was delicious and hot. We ate it all, but it was close to 8:30/8:45pm. When we done, our table was cleared. No one ever came back. I asked for our bill several times and finally after going to the front, the hostess brought it back. The ladies bathroom was broken and no running water. So that was gross. This place has tons of potential. The ambiance is great. The food was good. It just needs someone to run it. Super sad for our last night in Mexico! read more
