Sea Bass - San José del Cabo, Mexico
Justin L.

Monday, September 9 Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas 89℉ / 68% Humidity Our cruise ship stopped at Cabo, but we spent most of the day exploring San José. It's a somewhat sleepy town about 30 minutes away. Highly recommended if you are not a party person and would like to enjoy some peace and quiet. Very walkable with laid back vibes and a flourishing art scene. We stumbled across Chato's and decided to stop by for lunch after perusing the menu for a bit. There was a mix of locals, expats, and other tourists dining here. Seating is all outdoors, but there is a roof to protect you from the elements. Their menu contains seafood, tacos, burgers, pasta, other entrees, and drinks. The amount of flies swarming around was super annoying. I know it's mostly out of the restaurant's control but wow, those were the most aggressive flies I've had to swat away from my food. The staff members were kind enough to bring fans to blow them out of the area. They also lit a small fire that is supposed to deter flies. Didn't help much but that was nice. I got the sea bass, which was their catch of the day. It was well cooked and flakey, but could use more flavor. The accompanying rice, bread, and salad were fine.

This place has a very good fresh seafood. Not only seafood is great but everything else. Is run by a family and the service is excellent. They have outdoor seating and indoor with A/C. They have a very good service, prices and ambiance. I definitely recommend it.

We visited here during shoulder season (early October) so things seemed pretty sleepy in town, but "Chatos" had a good vibe going. We sat outside and Dennis and Malaquías (our servers ) made sure the fans were aimed appropriately so that we had a nice breeze. The seafood was amazing. I had the catch of the day, Red Snapper, and my parents had the seafood molcajete (served in a volcanic stone bowl). All of our dishes including the ceviche appetizer were absolutely delicious and the margarita was fresh and the ratios perfect. The meseros were attentive but not overwhelming and seemed genuinely like nice people. This was easily the best meal I have had in San Jose del Cabo!

Just visited Chato's the other day while on vacation and just WOW!! The service was spectacular, the vibe was super chill and the food was the best we've had in quite some time. Hubs and I each had tacos: one sea bass, one shrimp and one smoked marlin. To die for!! Highly recommend stopping by for a cold beer, tacos and ceviche. You will not be disappointed Already can't wait to come back next vacation!

Amazing hospitality! Delicious food! Great location next to lots of shopping. Chato's makes you feel at home! Easy, lay back atmosphere. Outdoor seating perfect for relaxing and while you eat. We started out as customers and left as family!

Red Snapper

The red snapper was absolutely delicious! It was the whole fish enough for four adults served with fluffy rice and a lightly dressed salad.

Chile rellenos yummy

We were looking for authentic Mexican food and found it at Chato's in town. I ordered the chile rellenos with rice and beans and it was the best. The relleno had a light coating with a mild red sauce and a large chile and cheese inside. It came with two and I regretted giving my husband one of them, lol. He ordered the fried Red Snapper and that was delicious! The refried beans were creamy and the rice was delish along with homemade tortillas! Service was excellent and our waiters were so attentive! It took awhile to get our food so be patient, it's worth itWould highly recommend!

The servers were amazing! It was so nice to have a night out on the town and eat with the locals. The restaurant has a chill vibe but everyone is extremely friendly. The food is authentic Mexican and delicious! We had the queso fondido, nachos, a burrito, margarita, and the natural lemonade. I have no complaints about anything we tried! Best queso fondido I've ever had!

While visiting San Jose yesterday, I wanted to try a new place for lunch. I came across Chato's on the corner which looked fun and inviting with its outdoor seating. I ordered the delicious seafood salad and it was amazing. Service was great. The owner is very welcoming and attentive. I definitely will be back to try more of the menu.

Marlin empanada

Wow didn't expect to find bargain seafood in this location. Affordable. Fresh. Big portion 2 shrimp taco for 140 pesos. Empanada as big as 1/2 plate for 70 pesos. We tried both marlin and shrimp empanada. Spaghetti with shrimp $11 usd but it was a little spicy ? Weird so we ate just the shrimp. Shrimp quesadilla excellent 5/5 Grilled fish 5/5 sea bass for $11 usd , can't beat that Coconut shrimp 5/5 Recommended

Micheladas

Food was 10/10. Best food we had in Cabo, even compared to The food at Garza Blanca Resort. Authentic, delicious, and fresh seafood. We were hesitant because it's all outdoor seating, but Chato lured and us with his outdoor fans and made it comfortable despite how hot it was out. The service was also 10/10. Family owned and a welcoming group of people. Check it out!

Wow! What a great experience we had at La Lupita Taco and Mezcal…read more This is a taco place. Don't expect any else on the menu except soup & salad and a couple of apps & sides. There is an indoor area or outside courtyard you can choose from. We had the pleasure of working with several Staff members including our main waiter, Marco as well as Ivan and Miriam. They were all so fun and attentive. They brought us a small serving of soup as an appetizer. My husband had a taste of the tortilla broth which had a little kick to it and I had the bean soup. Both were a nice sampling of the soup they offered. We ordered the chips & huac to start. The chips were thick and crispy. The guacamole tasted super fresh and bright. Now, the tacos are some of the best tacos we've ever eaten in MX or the US. The creativity and variety of toppings were outstanding. I really enjoyed the EL TAKESHI 190MX Rib Eye, Sesame, Hoisin, Ginger, Chives, Crispy Shallots, Flour tortilla. The meat was cooked perfectly and the flavor they developed was delicious. I also ordered the MEXICAN FLANK STEAK $150MX. Fresh Chiapas Cheese , Arugula, Crispy Leek & Potato, Macha Sauce, Yellow Corn tortillas. All these flavors worked so well together. One of the tastiest tacos they have on the menu is a cheese based tortilla taco called CHEESE CRUST PASTOR $100MX. Talk about a flavor bomb. Marinated Pork, Asadero Cheese Crust, Cilantro, Onion, Pineapple. My husband also ordered the CHIPOTLE SHRIMP $165MX. Shrimp, Chipotle Cream, fried parsley, flour tortilla. He loved it. For my Arizona friends, they will be opening a Scottsdale location in 2027. I can wait. Add this to your must try restaurants. Also, they just opened a location in Dallas Texas.

From the moment we walked in, the…read moreatmosphere was lively and inviting -- colorful décor, upbeat music, and that perfect blend of locals and visitors that tells you you're in the right place. It has that energetic taco-bar vibe people rave about, but still feels relaxed enough to really enjoy your meal. We started with the guacamole and it was excellent -- fresh, bright, perfectly seasoned, and clearly made to order. A great way to kick things off. For tacos, everything we tried was outstanding. The cheese shell al pastor was next level -- crispy, savory, and indulgent in the best way. The pastor had that smoky-sweet flavor people always mention in reviews, with just the right char. The miso fish taco was a surprise standout -- super flavorful, slightly sweet and umami-forward, and perfectly cooked. The milanesa taco had great crunch and seasoning, and the chipotle shrimp packed just the right amount of smoky heat without overpowering the shrimp. You can tell why so many reviews mention the creativity here -- these aren't just standard street tacos. The flavor combinations are bold and unique while still feeling authentically Baja. Service was fantastic -- friendly, attentive, and helpful with recommendations. Drinks were great, the energy was fun without being overwhelming, and the whole experience felt memorable. If you're in San José del Cabo and want elevated tacos in a vibrant setting, La Lupita is a must.

The grounds are stunning -- peaceful, lush, and effortlessly cool -- with the perfect balance of elevated resort vibes and warmth. What makes it even more special is that Acre also operates an animal rescue, helping save dogs from the streets and even arranging adoptions around the world. We legitimately almost adopted one while we were there. The entire culinary concept is organic farm-to-table, and you can truly taste the difference in every dish. Everything felt intentional, fresh, and incredibly well executed. Food highlights: - The mixed beet salad was hands down the best beet salad I've ever had in my life. - The crispy rice bites are a must order. - The catch-of-the-day ceviche with soaked jicama and green apple was phenomenal and one of the most unique, well-balanced ceviche preparations I've ever had. - Steak tacos were fantastic. - The tomato tartare with fresh and sun-dried tomatoes, light aioli, and crackers completely surprised us -- insanely flavorful and memorable. Cocktails were equally impressive: - Sips & Beets (my fav. I love beets & I love mezcal. Didn't think they would go, but had to try. It's outstanding!) - Margarita independente was my other fav - Guayabita - Espresso martini made with tequila And beyond the food, the hospitality was next level. Executive Chef David personally stopped by our table, chatted with us, and after noticing me taking photos, gifted me one of the dried decorative corns from the property. Such a thoughtful, genuine touch that perfectly reflects the spirit of Acre. This was one of those rare dining experiences that feels magical from beginning to end. We'll absolutely be back (this will become a spot we visit every trip to cabo!)

I would highly recommend coming an hour before your reservation to walk around and visit the animals! There's horses, chickens, bunnies, dogs, cats, goats, etc! Seriously the best part of the trip. PS. Order an espresso martini! They make it table-side. Pairs nicely with the frozen key lime pie. Don't know how they do it but the crust is nice and chilly and the lime custard inside is soft. 10/10.
