I like this facility to work out. They have a nice variety of weights and equipment. There is a nice indoor pool, various courts, even a climbing wall. The locker rooms and amenities like steam room, sauna, and hot tub are nice. BUT it's super weird having a camera in the locker room. It's kinda weird that there are areas of the locker room you are asked to be clothed in, like aren't those things in the locker room specifically so you don't have to worry about that? But super weird to have a camera in the locker room regardless. That's like my only issue with this place. read more

I think the gym has alot of; weights (free weights and machines), resistance equipment and aerobics equipment. This is a very busy gym and sometimes you have to wait a long time to use a particular piece of equipment (ie, Smith machine or the pec machine) or play pickle ball. Also some classes are very crowded, ie friday Barre class. Overall this is a good gym with many good group classes although it would be great if the workout area was monitored from time to time to insure that nobody sat on their phone while tying up a piece of equipment. read more

This is probably my least favorite YMCA location in knox... I have to give them 3 stars because you can tell the staff are trying, there was no trash anywhere and things were generally clean, or as clean as they could be. The child watch center did seem pretty clean and spacious, so I have no complaints there. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with the smell of mildew or something. The treadmills were all pretty old, I had to really mash the buttons to get them to work. The locker room floors were so gross. The whole place could really use a renovation. read more

The 'Bob Temple Family Northside YMCA' (aka: Northside Y) would be very easy to overlook, even if one happened to be looking for it. It's perched high upon a hill on the west side of Maynardville Pike, across from the local Tractor Supply, and is not exactly 'visible' from the highway. There IS a sign, but with the state mandated right of way setbacks, it's easy to overlook. And overlooking this facility would be a shame. While not quite a 'diamond in the rough' (think cloudy opal!), Northside Y has all the basics covered. Yes, it's not ultra-modern, and some of the aspects of the facility are a tad (ahem!) dated. However, the things that matter are perfectly functional and cared for. After 15 years of flying a desk, I'd graduated from monthly Century Bike Rides and weekly five-mile runs, to looking for the nearest parking space! If I intended to avoid the dreaded 'old-man' shuffle, I needed to find a full-service facility in which I could safely rebuild my cardio in a relaxed, my-schedule type of atmosphere. I found the perfect fit at Northside Y. There's different types of general group classes for various exercises levels, all led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff members. Today I paused at the activity board and noticed there's a 'boxing room'! The pool IS a tad weird, in that it is not olympic sized and the bottom is graded a bit different than one might expect. But it is clean, as is the dressing room. There's a life-guard in attendance and I will verify that they watch over the pool like a sea eagle spying out a lunch! There's a permanent cover in place, which might be a turn-off for some, but a lifetime of overexposure from Father Sol leaves me thankful of its shielding presence. As the season progresses and I become a bit more fit, I'll be enrolling in some of the more intense classes. But that's my point; there's something for everyone at all levels, in a family friendly atmosphere. Of great interest to yours truly, is the SILVER SNEAKER membership plan, which TOTALLY covers the membership! Of course, if there's an extra fee for an activity, everyone pays the out of pocket expense; but the FULL monthly is covered: pool, weight room, spin room, etc. Parking is decent, flat, and well-marked. Restrooms are ADA compliant. I strongly suggest taking the offer of a 'get-to-know' tour on your first visit! It may not be state of the art, but it's on MY side of town, and it's priced right. I had an experience there I hope to never repeat. I was in the shower and heard male voices and a power tool. I wrapped my towel around me and proceeded to the clothes changing area when I saw the men fixing toilets. I asked how could they be in there and they said there was a sign. i did not notice a sign when I entered. The person at the front desk said they had just put the sign up so was possibly done while I was already in the shower. Even if there had been one (I did notice one on the exit door) someone should've been posted to make people aware. Sometimes signs are not noticed. Prior notice at least is expected when people expect to shower upon exiting the pool. There were many other solutions to that problem but none were made. read more

Best gym I have ever been to! Great workers who are kind and caring about the people there, very clean facility and bathrooms, nice sauna and pool. The gym floor is the best part, great weights nice machines and a yoga room that is open to the public when classes aren't in session(great for people with anxiety to go lift weights alone). 10/10 would recommend!! read more

I was a member of Tennova North for years prior to the YMCA merger. It has been unusable and unpleasant since. I am a lap swimmer, and the pool is almost completely inaccessible due to overcrowding. When you can manage to get a lane, the screaming and chaos from dozens of unattended children make it so unpleasant to be there that it's just not worth it. The Y's treatment of Tennova's existing senior citizen membership was heartless and abhorrent. Many found doing their fitness routines so difficult after the buyout that they gave up and went home to slowly die rather than continue to beg the YMCA to give them even a modicum of accommodation. It was heartbreaking to see an that claims to be Christian treat our community's elderly and disabled the way they were treated. read more

Definitely experiencing growing pains since the merger. More classes but many are overcrowded. I have given up on ever getting a swimming lane. While the gym is getting much needed improvements, miss the old Tennova. read more

As a life guard who has visited this pool it is ill equipped to handle a real emergency, due to how stands are set up along with lack of proper attitude among staff. Equipment is lacking for a group claiming to prioritize safety. As a christian this makes me sick to even think this is allowed, do not go if you care about your own or kids safety. read more

The business was allowed to run down before the Y.M.C.A. acquired it. The Spa is brokendown at least two weeks of every month. Steam room is dirty. The young kids who run the place due their best but the place needs work. The basketball court is okay. The old Y was better in my opinion. read more

I love the classes and instructors at the North Side YMCA. The staff are friendly and courteous. The only thing that should be improved, is the lack of a clean environment. I do know that they put in a new air filter system which is a very good update since Covid hit, but I would suggest that they clean the vents in the gym, paint them or replace them. The base boards that around the gym are dirty and appear to have mold on them as does some of the walls near the baseboards. I know they have had issues with getting people to clean and I understand it is hard to find anyone to work during this pandemic. I just want to be safe when I am exercising and I am sure others would appreciate some improved cleaning. Overall, they provide a great service and I am happy that I have a place to exercise to stay healthy. read more

Super friendly staff. Pool is small. The fitness equipment is well cared for, but a lot of it is older. A very full fitness schedule and the staff will help you find your way around. It looks small and a little off putting from the street, but give it a whirl, they're making the effort! read more
