I called to see if they had a specific cut of meat. I was in search of a UK pork hand and spring or what they call simply pork hand or pork shoulder. The Americans know the cut of meat as pork Boston Butt. They had it in stock. They explained they would show me the full cut. What I didn't know is they would show me the full pig cut in 1/2 down the middle. I saw half a head, back and bum including the tail. I also saw that this is one of the friendly pigs that run around the pig farms in England happy as can be. It is nice to know this pig died happy. This particular pig came from the farm off the A14 carriage way.
The butcher made my cut right then and there. It was as fresh as can be. He took out the bones for me as well. I never have bought meat this fresh ever in my life. I got basically the entire pork shoulder minus the bones and paid £18.00. Very good price considering the quantity of meat I got. I have an extra large crock pot and it will barely fit. I plan on making pulled pork tonight.
The line can be daunting and scare you off, but there are enough friendly butchers with kind smiles who make the process a lot less painful and the line moves rather quickly.
I have been here before to get veal mince. They usually always have whatever I am in need of. Always a pleasurable experience every time I shop. Honestly wouldn't bother going anywhere else.
Their prices are comparable to what you would pay in the supermarket, but why go there when you can get super fresh meat?
They always offer advice and suggestions and how to cook the meat. The butchers are always very helpful. read more
