I awakened this Sunday morning thinking about St. Matthews Church. It's not an uncommon memory for…read moreme....and ten years is a long time to have been away from what was, on most occasions, a comfort zone. On sunny days, I would walk to church. It lifted my spirit. What a warm place for me to be. St. Matt's is a beautiful church. I was drawn to the music, for sure. I always sat close to the musicians. And there, also, especially when the sun was shining, a white cross appeared in one section of the stained glass that I was facing. I was touched. St. Matt's, however, was a place of contrasts/contradiction for me. Although there were many friendly parishioners, a woman's place in the service, in "leadership", was defined by men. Perhaps it was a generational thing and after all of these years, things have really changed. Healing services were appreciated when I was first introduced to them, but they soon became too influenced by the judgments of men. It seemed to me that women of advanced educational standing and experience were considered a threat, to males and females. Divorced women, although "welcomed into the fold" were slighted. An inscribed gift that I had given to the church library in thanks for kindnesses shown had disappeared completely and had "never been a part of the inventory." A place of contradiction, in my mind...One day I will return. I long to feel the presence, especially when that small white cross is shining in the stained glass.

Kids are most welcome here and always within the Masjiid (Mosque), safe & kind place. Very community involved and resourceful...I've been attending this Masjiid for over 3 1/2 years now. My wife & I got married here, and we consider this our home mosque.

I love the people here, so down to earth, open minded, willing to do the work with little and still save some to help those in need. It really is deed not creeds here.
