2 years ago Rabbi Kaplan retired and a new Rabbi came to our little Synagogue and she literally…read moresplit the community in two. People who had spent most of their lives in the Shul, turned away. That Rabbi, was not rehired when her contract came due. Instead, we went with an interim Rabbi who will be with us for two years and try to help heal the community and search for a permanent Rabbi who will be a perfect fit. So far, she had brought energy, wisdom, direction and a renewed sense of Jewish spirit to us. I love the work she is doing and I will be sad when she leaves but I know she will help us choose a good permanent Rabbi. If you are in town in the autumn, when we have the Jewish Food Fair, stop by. It is a huge event and everyone is welcome. So right now....5 stars. Great rabbi, great congregants and a great experience!

This really isn't a review. But…read more.. Um... What? I thought when we were there that i was the only jew in Mattoon. Apparently some have moved in. There goes the neighborhood. Now there are going to be kosher chinese restaurants and hebrew schools popping up everywhere. Looks like i wont be as special when we go visit from now on. Unless this is more of a center for people who support the idea of jewish people, rather than a place for jewish people. Maybe it is like a museum. Like when you go to an aquarium in Ohio or something. Maybe it is just hypothetical, like should jewish people live here, here is the building that would host their center... I doubt we will ever know. It keeps the mystery alive as long as i don't research it. Okay, rant over.

You become an outcast and members won't talk to you or are encouraged to not talk to you. Aren't we who are truly Christians all family of God's. Whew I thought so but obviously this church doesn't think so. So sad
