We were introduced to many members of the synagogue. My daughter started attending religious school at TNS just weeks after we moved when she was 3 y/o. TNS is a small and warm community. We have felt welcomed and supported by numerous members. My daughter has been receiving a good Jewish education appropriate for her age. I appreciate that TNS encourages parent participation in the religious school. We are looking forward to attending our first Tot Shabbat next week.

From past…read moreexperiences with other Orthodox organizations I thought that they were going to be pushy and unwelcoming if you did not agree with their views. However after my first time there I realized it was the exact opposite. No matter what sect of Judaism you consider yourself, or even if you're not Jewish at all, they welcome you into their home and make you feel welcome. Rabbi Chaim and Miki are great and they have the cutest kids ever! Shabbat dinners are always fun and they do not compete with Hillel at all. In fact they work with board members in all the Jewish organizations on campus to make sure they do not have any conflicting events. They have lots of things going on all the time including Shabbat dinners, Hebrew lessons, Lunch and Learn (on campus), Dinner and Discussion, quarterly barbeques, Torah study, and more. Miki's Hebrew classes are fun and I feel like I have learned a lot. I can now read Hebrew, although I read like a kindergartner. However with more practice I know I will get better.

When my now husband and I moved to Paso Robles from our location in Avila Beach we were concerned about finding a synagogue we could attend without having to go down to SLO so we were thrilled when we found Ohr Tzafon in Atascadero. The Deets: Form: Reform We follow a Reform Siddur during services and are accepting of all backgrounds. Rabbi: Rabbi Janice Mehring Our Singing Rabbi. We were is impressed by the quality of leadership this strong, inspirational woman threads throughout her services that we had her officiate our wedding. Thinking about the way she sung the Seven Blessings and led our very personalized service still gives me chills. I still have my guests mention the service from time to time. Services: 7:30 on Shabbat with a community Oneg following services. On the first Friday of the month we have 5:30 Tot Shabbat and 6:30 Family Services for those with little children. The services are interactive and really engages our little members. Torah School: Kids from all ages and backgrounds are welcome. They are taught the meaning and symbolism of Jewish customs/holidays/practices, instructed in Hebrew (from learning the alphabet to Bar/Bat Mitzvah's in training), and fun activities to lead a fulfilling childhood. Community Women's Havurah, Men's Club, Book Club, Board leaders (not "bored leaders" lol), special gatherings like Jews and Schmooze and Wine, Whiskey and Worship. The Community Seder is always fun and everyone is welcome. I really can't say enough good things about this place. I moved to the Central Coast in 2013 and this is the first time I feel like I have a strong community of people who love and support me. These are truly going to be some of my forever friends. The temple itself is beautiful and all members, men women and children are allowed to sit together and girls can even wear Talit and Yamaka.the Torah study is tailored to todays events and the word of the female-Rabbi are filled with love to Israel and Israel's history. I am happy to say that our friend recommended that we go and she was right!!! My faith in Judaism is restored and I hope that if you have an Israeli family, you will give this temple a visit before deciding on a more traditional route.
