I am unused to German breakfast, so went with the waitress' recommendation. She was very knowledgeable, and it was helpful that she spoke English! She offered the Flammkuchen as a local favorite, and she hit the nail on the head for a savory bite. It was a German breakfast pizza (more like a flatbread in type, if you are used to American dining) with a refreshing sour cream base. Just know it is a big portion before ordering! The coffee was great, as well - they offered the local Van Dyck coffee roast, which is regional to Cologne, organic, and fair-trade.
Couldn't ask for more out of the experience!
