One day I was strolling through Richmond and spotted him walking down the alley way towards this pub, so I thought I might follow him to see where he went. ( IT WASN'T STALKING!! ). He went into this pub with its rainbow flag proudly flying. (Clue *2) Has anyone guessed yet that this is a gay pub? "How could you not have realised that this was a gay pub?" Asked my friend. "The flowers are so well tended to out the front - when do you see that with a straight pub?". That is true. This pub has one of the nicest flower displays that I have ever seen. it also has an extremely friendly crowd. I would say that it is more gay than mixed. They also hold cabaret nights as well as other entertainment. It is tucked away from Richmond high street, and obviously has a completely different vibe from the loud, crazy bars that are so near it. Somehow it seems like an oasis of tranquility. I just wish that I had discovered it in more pleasant circumstances!

I know this because I went with some gay friends one of whose birthday it was. I probably wouldn't have gained entry on my own but inside was brill indeed. I danced the early morning away, up until about 2am when the place closed down. Music was great, drinks were expensive and I was even asked to dance which absolutely never happens in straight discos. I will have to try the pub with its day time face on. Richmond is a surprise!

Their tone was aggressive, intimidating, and completely unprofessional. They then banned me from the club for no valid reason. As a young female I felt intimidated and I had to walk away and wait for my transport somewhere else as the insults wouldn't stop and they kept calling me a horrible friend, a disgusting person etc... It was around 3am and i should've felt safe waiting next to the venue however it was the exact opposite. The incel security team seems to be on a power trip, making excuses to harass women instead of acting professionally, not to mention my friend got home okay and he is disgusted with how they treated me.

Avoid at all costs…read more I wish to complain, in the strongest possible terms, about the shockingly rude and disgraceful customer service I recently had the misfortune of enduring on a night out at The Edge. I'll set the scene; I was with a group of friends celebrating a birthday, where the birthday girl understandably wanted to visit you as a fixture of the gay scene in Southampton. We agreed - the Edge has an excellent reputation. However, the treatment I and several other members of the birthday party we endured is, frankly, completely unacceptable. The door staff you employ, or contract, are disgustingly rude. Unaware that a picture ID system was in place (I've not been to a club since Covid), I was unaware that I needed to bring a form of photo ID with me. Fair enough - I was happy to show the woman at the door a copy of my credit card and my Facebook profile picture as proof that I am who I say I am. However, the manner and way in which she proceeded to extremely patronisingly demand "well why don't you have any photo ID", visibly sighing and rather dismissively inferring that I was stupid for not knowing this. Rather than politely saying "oh that's ok, we can use Facebook and a credit card" or words to that effect, she essentially demanding that I needed photo ID and that " as your [The Edge's] photo-ID systems had been installed for four years" and that I should "get with the times". As if my mere presence insulted her and that I, single-handedly, was making her job ten times harder than it needed be. Then visibly annoyed while waiting for me to sign in to Facebook and provide evidence of my ID, she snatched my credit card away from me and presented it to the man at the responsible for entering ID systems, saying that I should apologise to her for holding the queue up. By this point I had decided that if this was representative of the "service" at your establishment that I was not comfortable patronising your bar, and that I wanted to leave. I then requested my credit card back from the man at the door, at which point I overheard her say words to the effect of "are you being serious? That's a f***ing waste of time". As if patrons, your valued customers, are little more than cattle to be herded, with no regard for either my safety, or the feelings of your clients. Extreme words, perhaps, but that's honestly the feeling I got from her. The door staff member in question is what I would describe as an older lady, with peroxide blonde or very light brown hair, working in a black T-shirt that says "security". Because I just wanted to get out of there I didn't get her name, unfortunately, but she was working around 11:30 pm on Saturday 12th September. While I understand that being door staff is hardly rocket science, I nevertheless expect a certain level of professionalism and modicum of both decency and respect as a possible customer at your bar - she is 'security', but I hardly felt 'secure' with her. My entire experience, and in particular the abysmal and deeply offensive level of service provided by the member of staff in question is, frankly, disgusting, and completely unacceptable. This whole unfortunate experience has completely ruined a perfectly good night out, and I am still, over an hour later, visibly shaken (and, indeed, shaking). If this is standard of customer "service" I can expect from The Edge, it paints what I am sorry to say is a level of service far below that which can be reasonably expected from one of Southampton's premiere LGBT+ clubs. What a disgusting end to a great night out.

This place is hilarious…read more Nestled in the surburban-y nowhere of South Ealing is this strange and wonderful place. I'd heard of West Five. It has an ambiguous reputation, meaning my imagination ran wild with the all kinds of grott and depravity it could be. This place blew my expectations. I imagined some tacky bar with large dancefloor and disco-balls galore. Some attempt to rival the Soho scene. Oh No. It's a pub. A really big pub. Traditional pub sign hanging high outside proudly coloured in rainbow. Inside, aside from the purple-pink neon bar it's your local. Good selection behind the bar and really reasonable prices. The staff are unpretentious and friendly. There's a real feeling of community here, everyone knowing everyone, instead of everyone sleeping with everyone. We went on a Friday, the evening started early with great entertainment. A wonderful gentleman playing you show tune classics on the stunning grand piano in one section of the bar. We moved from the dance classics to join him. He took requests and invited us up to sing. It was a wonderful atmosphere for friends catching up. Moving on from civilised sing song and chat we take up our space on the dancefloor and get ready for the head-liner. A fantastic caliber of drag act entertained us. Far from your dodgy man in a dress was this wonderful entertainer that warmed us up for an energetic night on the dancefloor. This pub is great for groups. Pool table, seating, different spaces for different crowds and a good atmosphere. It's not always very busy, even on this particular Friday it was no where near full, and it was quite clear they were mainly audience for the headline act. Don't get me wrong, it's still all kinds of camp, disco balls included and the ladies leave a lot to be desired but it's got a lot of soul. I wish this place was not in the arse crack of no where, but I suppose if it was, it wouldn't be the same.

Bingo nights, karaoke nights, quiz nights, DJ's, drag shows, a massive garden, a piano lounge, big dance floor, comfy sofas, yeah, everything you could wish for when you want a night out! Another reason for this being my favorite place is that the people who go there seems more relaxed than in central London. Less artificial and pretentious. There is also a big mix between girls and boys, women and men, straights and gays, in all ages! If you want a good and fun night out, or just somewhere to chill, this is your place!

It wasn't that crowded at the bar. When other guest would walk up they would get immediate attention. I didn't want to loose my spot so I stayed there to see if eventually one of them would come over. At one point which was the last straw 2 guys walked up on the right of me and one of the bartenders looked our way and said "hey there" thinking he was speaking to me. I smiled. Then he walked right past me and spoke with them and went back to the other side of the bar! As I walked away a tall guy was behind me and he saw it and looked in shock as to say he saw what happened, he didn't say anything to the bartenders to assist. It wasn't he job to I know. I asked for the manager, I shared my experience, he apologized and gave excuses saying the guys were new. And that he will speak with them. He offered to get me a drink. I was done by then and I declined. I mentioned that I would give a review. I won't be back. What happened to customer service? If I could left the stars blank I would have.

Central Station is not the classiest of establishments…read more I'm sure it has a very loyal, local clientèle, but I'm afraid I won't be back. In the area with a few hours to kill, The Mrs remembers - somewhere around here is one of the oldest gay bars. Central station. Not one to miss out on a dodgy gay bar, we Yelp it and start the trek. On the approach; our negative suspicions were proved right as we saw the well worn exterior of the pub. Taking a deep breath we ventured in. On first impressions it actually looked quite nice. Deep purple painted walls and trendy wall paper. A light and airy look. The Problems started when we ordered a drink at the bar. Drinks weren't cheap and I got what I believe to be the dirtiest pint ever had the displeasure of drinking. It just tasted foul, like the lines hadn't been cleaned, ever. Everywhere on the bar and tables seemed to already be wet. Even for 8pm on a Friday night the atmosphere was lifeless with just a scattering of lone men sitting around the place. Bar flies were a staple here. As standard, there was no lock on the ladies - which was another delight. Describing itself as a 'restaurant' even going so far as putting itself on TopTable I was sceptical. I'm afraid we didn't brave the food as the menu didn't look very appetising. Now there is a club downstairs, and a pool table lives out the back so I'm sure there are better nights to go there and when there are people I'm sure its a hoot. But. No. Just. No

As a bar, it's not hip nor stylish but offers a welcome home to a variety of local community events embracing all aspects of queer and allied trade identities including regular socials for trans people, cross dressers and their admirers - if you're no comfortable with this then prepare to see your horses frightened! If you are then enjoy one of the warmest spaces in town. The hotel (perhaps more B&B) is clean but dated, with reasonable facilities and a can do attitude.
