At the moment it has a very kitsch love heart and cherubs floating, however they sometimes have artist's works or randomly placed hanging objects. The chairs and sofas are all a little different. Some cow skin little stools, leather sofas big wooden armchairs and tall wooden bar stools situated around the table bars in the window sills. Drinks are reasonably priced. However the bar staff can be quite slow so send your friends to find a table saves everyone waiting! It gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday evening. As we approached we were told there was going to be a £3 entry fee, which for a regular pub with no entertainment on annoys me but hey ho here we go. But we all got stamped with GLORY on our wrists and were let in for free. Now I'm too young to ever have experienced the more underground gay bars of yesteryear - but this place felt reminiscent of those times. For 11pm on a Friday there was no way the bar needed to be that HOT. I mean, difficult to breathe kind of HOT. And yet remarkably everyone still had their shirts on! The bar itself is small and crammed, but the staff were nice and friendly and the booze reasonably priced. The whole place is very dark, with a small cabaret stage area with the compulsory silver backdrop. It all felt a bit dated, terrible (and not ironically camp) music, sauna type hot with a keep your clothes on rule and just BLEH. No I'm not the lesbian spoil sport - I love a good sausage bar with a good atmosphere, but I'm afraid the only Glory in this bar may be in the holes in the bathroom.

We found the bartenders don't serve the customers directly and they don't have cash registers. So you don't really chat with the bartenders or tip them. Instead orders are placed via roaming servers who handle the cashless transactions. This was a first for me in a gay bar setting. The world is changing. Upstairs music was current. Volume was not too loud (surprising for a Friday night) so we could converse without shouting. Clientele was a great mix, showing the diversity of LGBTQ+ London. We like that and will come back again.

We were there on a Sunday night so it was pretty quiet, though we were told that it does pack up a bit more on prime nights. Two hours and an unappetising avocado and chicken pesto sandwich from Pret A Manger (that's a review for another time) later, I met my friend at The New Bloomsbury Set. There was a lovely blast wall of air-conditioning as soon as I walked down the stairs and entered the bar. It is small and minimalistic and comfortable. Those things don't always go hand in hand but Jez has pulled it off somehow and I thank him for it. If you take a look at the wall on your left as you enter you will see three little alcoves that look like they may have been storage space at one time. I didn't have a chance to ask but they've been gussied up as a nice little chill out space. Throw pillows and carpets make these little spaces nice and cosy but don't completely alienate you from the rest of the room. They have a full bar with a wonderful drink menu and plenty of beers to suit a number of tastes. It's a safe bet that you're in good hands unless you only drink odd things like 20 year aged mescal. I have a light hearted warning to pass on about the hall outside the bathrooms. There is a disco ball and coloured lighting so beware. A dance party might just break out. If you happen to be looking for a nice, intimate place to have a drink and relax then I highly recommend The New Bloomsbury Set.

As the launch was for a website compiling free venues for art exhibitions, this proved a winner all round. The organisers made good use of the exhibitions space and held a presentation in the main bar. Rolling Stock was the real winner, though, as the bar was packed out with people who had not been here previously. Partly because it's really easy to miss and doesn't look very inviting from Kingsland Road - just a big door under the railway arches. I actually walked right past it and had to turn back when I checked the street number. It is the sort of bar that makes me wish I like beer a lot more than I do. The choice of interesting looking bottles was impressive. The wine was ok, too, but seemed like a boring choice considering. They also do cocktails, so cater for all tastes. Leaving through the gallery at the back opened up another world - there is a large open space on the other side of the railway arches which is bound to be packed in the summer.

It's like they couldn't hear or understand any of the words I was saying on multiple orders throughout the evening, even though saying "IPA" and/or pointing directly at the tap seems fairly direct and intuitive.

The food itself wasn't bad, but for a pub that claims to have the best Sunday Roast in London, it certainly didn't compare to those that don't claim that and are less of a hassle to eat in. And at £17 a pop, you can bet the experience wasn't worth it for some chicken and Yorkshire pudding.

This London gay club has just the right mixture of sexual undercurrent and outrageously good sound system. It is a gay cousin of the alien bar in the opening sequence of Star Wars, with a definitely one-of-a-kind vibe, and some characters that may or may not be human. It used to be much more in-your-face with the sex, but that's been toned down from NC-17 (bordering on X-rated) to R-rated...just the same, even now don't bring prudes here. Bizarrely enough, my straight work colleagues turned to me and said they wanted to go to an outrageously fun gay disco. So, I took them to this Vauxhall institution, and they let the female work colleagues in too, after I flirted with the bouncer. Before the night was over, they'd definitely had the aforementioned outrageous fun. The place really reminds me of another one-of-a-kind club with a sex theme dialed up to the max and a chest-vibrating sound system: Miami's E11even. The main differences are (1) this club is not 24 hours, 365 days a year like the Miami fraternal twin (opens 8PM and runs very late), and (2) there are boys wearing next to nothing gyrating, not girls. It's easy to find with GPS. Any London cabbie will know the place, and it's easy to get to by subway. For logistics, just remember the Tube closes down fairly early by large city standards, and the cabs get a huge spike in demand when the last train departs. Thank [insert deity here] that London let Uber resume operations. The neighborhood can be slightly edgy, especially late at night, but dodge the dark archways, etc., and you should be fine. If you're a cocktail fan, this place has a great bar. The real star of the show is the truly amazing sound system with laser lights, etc. Most nights have themes, and the night we went was Horse Meat Disco night, which despite the name seems to be generally just a fun dance party with cool lighting effects. Other nights are a little more themed by body type and clothing (bears, underwears, etc). Oh one important thing: with a name like Eagle London, you might expect this to be mostly leather guys and maybe a little seedy. Instead it's sort of a radical cross-section of gay Londoners and pretty spiffy decor. I recommend the place highly.

But to get into Scaredy Cat Town, you definitely should make an online reservation. They're not hard to lock down, but we tried to get something on Thursday for Saturday and they only had bar seats left. Totally fine for just the two of us. When you walk in, you just tell them you're there to see the Mayor and within a few minutes, you are whisked through the door of an oddly placed refrigerator (yes, I've blown the surprise, but the "scaredy" cat is out of the bag by now anyway). The place is pretty much a dive, with an overabundance of random knick-knacks, signs, and what-not. Funky, funny, eclectic - you get it. But don't let that mislead your impression - it's a serious cocktail bar. They've got a wide range of original concoctions to choose from, and both the presentation and tastiness of our selections were excellent. The bartenders are friendly, and the music that night was essentially a playlist of one- and two-hit wonders from the 80's (again, right in our wheelhouse!). Totally fun, and a great way to start off our night! I wholeheartedly recommend that you schedule a meeting with the Mayor soon!
