OK I admit I'm a stereotype, but I'm a gay dude who loves to dance in clubs with bangin' sound systems. This London gay club has just the right mixture of sexual undercurrent and outrageously good sound system. It is a gay cousin of the alien bar in the opening sequence of Star Wars, with a definitely one-of-a-kind vibe, and some characters that may or may not be human. It used to be much more in-your-face with the sex, but that's been toned down from NC-17 (bordering on X-rated) to R-rated...just the same, even now don't bring prudes here. Bizarrely enough, my straight work colleagues turned to me and said they wanted to go to an outrageously fun gay disco. So, I took them to this Vauxhall institution, and they let the female work colleagues in too, after I flirted with the bouncer. Before the night was over, they'd definitely had the aforementioned outrageous fun. The place really reminds me of another one-of-a-kind club with a sex theme dialed up to the max and a chest-vibrating sound system: Miami's E11even. The main differences are (1) this club is not 24 hours, 365 days a year like the Miami fraternal twin (opens 8PM and runs very late), and (2) there are boys wearing next to nothing gyrating, not girls. It's easy to find with GPS. Any London cabbie will know the place, and it's easy to get to by subway. For logistics, just remember the Tube closes down fairly early by large city standards, and the cabs get a huge spike in demand when the last train departs. Thank [insert deity here] that London let Uber resume operations. The neighborhood can be slightly edgy, especially late at night, but dodge the dark archways, etc., and you should be fine. If you're a cocktail fan, this place has a great bar. The real star of the show is the truly amazing sound system with laser lights, etc. Most nights have themes, and the night we went was Horse Meat Disco night, which despite the name seems to be generally just a fun dance party with cool lighting effects. Other nights are a little more themed by body type and clothing (bears, underwears, etc). Oh one important thing: with a name like Eagle London, you might expect this to be mostly leather guys and maybe a little seedy. Instead it's sort of a radical cross-section of gay Londoners and pretty spiffy decor. I recommend the place highly. read more

Horrible experience tonight. I love the Eagle London but I might never come back. they would not let me re-enter because I had left the bar and left the property to smoke legal hemp that is sold and n the UK. the doorman was so rude to me when I first went in. I'm always polite and say hello to the staff. I'm fortunate to get hemp legally in the UK with CBD that helps alleviate my psoriatic arthritis. I hace had wow hip replacements in the last 6 months. and the bar is packed with many people trust me on much worse things that cannot be detected by smell. so sad read more

The Perfect End To a Perfect Weekend I Love HMD! Over the past five-teen years or so I have experienced the pure joy of the spiritual home of Horse Meat Disco many times. Somehow each time I get on down to this dancefloor the experience seems to get better each time. My weekend had started Saturday morning with helping set up a Family Fun Day in Buchan Rd Nunhead, yes my road, being involved with community events has been so rewarding on a personal level in 2019, then off to the Annual Divisional Celebration at The Salvation Army College. The Sally Army Nunhead changed my life June 2019 in a very positive way, then Sunday evening I attended the final night of the Peckham & Nunhead Free Film Festival for my first outdoor film experience at the delightful Glengall Wharf Community Garden to see the mind blowing Microcosmos. Well talk about 'variety is the spice of life' I had been so tired and was in two minds about going to HMD, well I took some pills - Caffeine Tablets! Splashed on a load of Geranium Oil which is a great pick me up, and now feeling really 'up for it' so glad I made the effort, DJ Luke Howard played a blinding inspired set, it was so beautiful and tight, on occasion Luke cut abruptly without mixing from one track to another with perfect precision, very few DJ's can do this or dare take the risk, yet this worked brilliantly. The crowd were all just so up for the dancefloor, no attitudes at all, so much mixing with everyone, I just love the ease of being able to boogie with so many people, and the guys are always so hot and fit, reckon I had the hots for at least six! The crowd is so up for it and friendly, there is something very special and quite unique about the HMD Experience at the Eagle, and that the venue was not over-busy actually did not detract at all, besides I love space to dance, strut and of course Vougue, yes lots of Voguing! This is a very special place and for me is as powerful on a spiritual level as when I attend the Sally Army Sunday Meetings, 'Music is the answer' is so spot on, it was four hours of pure uplifting genuine joy, and without the aid of any alcohol or apart from Caffeine tablets, any pills, my drug is just to dance. Getting back to London clubs has been such a crucial part of my mental health recovery which only started in June, for six month before you could hardly get me out of the front door. Coming to HMD you are transported to another world, to be able to leave any 'emotional baggage' behind to escape into the many genres of disco and more music genres ( when Luke played a George Michael track everyone went wild! ) is the perfect way to part with just £6 or £7 on the door. You will be served by lovely bar staff, with coat check looked after by more often what seems to be always the cutest guy working and everyone is looked after by very friendly security. I applaud Mark Oakley for presiding over this very special place, he has managed the venue going for many years which somehow like a fine vintage wine seems to improve with age, with many improvements made, yet at its core Mark has remained faithful to what the Eagle should be about, that anyone regardless of gender or sexuality can come here and feel really safe without fear of judgement, Harvey Milk would be so proud of this venue. The beer garden in the rear is a fab key part of the venue, and quite by chance I ended up meeting two random people, who actually had a completely unexpected connection with me, I asked a lovely lady to take a photo, then I joined with her and really hot guy who had only met socially that evening, the guy is from Toronto Canada, and the lady is from Newcastle Sydney, in passing I shared that I have visited Toronto in Canada AND Toronto in Australia where my sister in law lives and she was gob-smacked. This is part of the charm of HMD that you can meet not only really hot guys but also get into some lovely conversations, not that I had much time to talk, as I could hardly drag myself off the dancefloor. read more

In December, I tried to come here with a female friend, and there was a big sign at the door that said "men only," so I'm baffled as to why one of the reviews mentioned that a few women were in the bar. I guess it's possible that it's become men-only in recent times. I first visited in June 2011. It was almost deserted on a Saturday night, and the music was way too loud-- my mate and I had to shout in order to chat. read more

Strange bar really, at first I had really low expectations as I was told to meet friends here really early (not advised) and was the first one in the bar. It's never a good feeling when you've just paid cover to stand around with yourself. But rest assured, it did get livelier as the night went on.. Eagle is the type of bar where you'll end up chatting up some strangers, making a few friends, doing shots of random liquors and leaving well past your bedtime. The music was a little hit and miss when I was in, but I can see that it had the potential to be a good night out if you wanted to just be a bit random and dancey with a few friends. It's south though, and you know how hard it is to get me out at night, but if the commute isn't too much work for you, you'll be treated to some cheap drinks and good times. A few ladies were in the bar as well, so it's not a totally bad place to bring a mixed (gender) crowd. read more

Coming from someone who thinks the Horse Meat Disco on Sunday is legendary, I can now say I was a regular when I lived there. If you like to have a great time with a happy bunch of people (all kinds- gay, straight, etc), go here! I always had a great time, and their special events never ceased to deliver! If you can make it to the HMD on a bank holiday Sunday, GO. Just go. Go early obviously, but that's because other people have discovered the special aura of a HMD at Eagle London that makes it The Legendary Club Night in the World! Tonker on Friday nights is a club for men of and admirers of men of larger girth. The no aptitude bar really makes a refreshing change from the Soho scrawny haunts. With the Pool table turned into a crusty roll buffet and the sausage rolls on the bar, the hungry bears can feast on basic nosh and real men. With the recent addition of a top DJ from RVT, Tonker is now a great place to dance. read more

I was only here for the last couple of hours of business on January 1st (well technically it was the 2nd) But all I kept thinking was that if this bar was in Chicago I would be here every night. Fun, friendly patrons, a delightful staff (who even let me in free after they had closed out the door register) and drink prices that almost made me forget the dollar to pound exchange rate! Next time I randomly find myself in London, at least on a Friday night, I will definitely be back! read more

I went to the Horse Meat Disco which is on Sunday nights. Although the name is slightly intimidating, the room has a friendly atmosphere, amazing music, and a decent draught beer selection for my fellow beer drinkers. I was told I would be going to a club for bears, but the guys here seemed more like cute little cubs.There is a fun patio space out back, albeit filled with second hand smoke, a sufficient dance area, and not too many dark corners. The night I went, one man was having so much fun, he decided to go sans clothes right next to the bar. WOOT. The cover is kind of steep (£6), but well worth it. read more

My review refers to normal Mon-Thurs nights. This is a low-key and unpretentious bar attracting a mostly middle-aged crowd. Good music,friendly (& hot!) bar staff, porn on TV screens, a pool table and outside patio for smokers. Sometimes the bar is quiet, just the luck of the draw on the night. I'm not giving 5 stars because the dark-room area is a bit feeble & not very well thought out-just a couple of bits of camouflage netting. I realise the venue is restricted in what they can do with a small space that has to double as a dance floor but I think a little more imagination & thought could be put into making it a sexy space. As it is,guys tend to congregate in one small corner due to lack of privacy/anonymity and too much light in the rest of the room. Only in this respect does it not compare to other Eagle bars around the world which give a higher priority to the cruising space-here it feels like an afterthought. read more
