As I learned, the fountains of Rome are not just for show, they're an important part of the area water network. Rome is fed by one of the most potent mountain spring aquifer sources in the world, pumping 525 MILLION GALLONS a day. The pressure on piping for that kind of quantity is immense, and reliable outflows are needed in addition to the water use privately. Hence the many fountains and watering points around Rome, all fit for drinking straight from the tap or filling your most handy water bottle. Trevi fountain is easily one of the most ornate however, giving you that feeling of it being an exquisite pool for the gods. It has a almost a grotto-like feel, with the original stonemasons opting to use large unworked boulders as part of the landscape where they affixed their finely sculpted masterpieces. The square that surrounds it is just jam packed full of people, so unless you are tall like me, be prepared to work your way in for a good shot. If you are looking for refreshment, you'll be waiting a long time here. There are smaller water sources nearby to splash your face and fill your bottle. While you could spend months trying to explore all the fountains of Rome, if you just have a couple days, this one if the must see. It lives up to its reputation in every way.

The exterior front of this palace may be very humble but it was intended to be that way because it hides from the public what is an otherwise very ornate facade in the rear of the building that when you stand in the internal Courtyard and private plaza looks out and over the Vatican. This is now a functioning school to a small collection of dedicated artists who have a one year residency here and come from all over the world to study participate learn and in some cases to replicate the marbles that can be found elsewhere in the city. The guided tour in English was excellent, filled with facts and interestings things about this location and a walk through the garden was a pleasant experience that takes you out and away from the bizziness of the city of Rome. Make sure you ask them about The Secret passage that connects this house to the Vatican. There are a lot of stairs here small narrow and steep so be prepared to do some walking but it's well worth it so you can get out into the garden and find the beautiful little Bunny rabbit that habitats this local.

Later a shrine was added honoring soldiers who died in WWI without identified names. Like many monuments, this one isn't without controversy, since construction demolished parts of the Medieval and Renaissance sections of the Capitoline Hill neighborhood, creating a temple-like structure dedicated to the secular Italian state. Many contemporary Romans initially viewed it as an aggressive imposition of nationalist rhetoric. Its over-sized neoclassical design in bright white marble contrasted to the ancient ruins nearby and were criticized as an eyesore, with nicknames given such as "wedding cake" and "typewriter." Further, because Benito Mussolini often used this monument as a backdrop for military rallies and propaganda, there was a strong fascist connection which took decades to disassociate thru post-war removal of fascist symbols; there was even a nominal 1986 public "trial" to determine the future of the monument. Part of its rebranding focused on highlighting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier which was previously dedicated in 1921, as a symbol of the proletarian contributions to the state. All history aside, for most tourists (like me) this is yet another magnificent sight to behold that we could not see anywhere else but Italy. Over the last century museums were added inside and in 2002-03 the building was reopened to the public, with ties to the National Museum of Palazzo Venezia nearby. While I haven't had the chance to check out the interior of either of these buildings yet, I hope to eventually do so!

We ended up taking our time walking around the building and the square around it, because at every corner there was something that made us stop for a second look. The whole area is a dream for anyone who enjoys history. Even though it's an enormous, modern structure compared to the ancient ruins nearby, it plays a major role in Italy's story as it honors Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy. The bright white marble, the long staircases, the huge bronze statues, and the views from the terraces all add to its presence. Inside is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which gives the monument a more solemn side. We were both exhausted by the time we got there, but still didn't want to rush it. The only thing missing is more signs explaining what you're looking at; there's so much detail and so much history layered into one place. Still, it was a great experience and well worth the time to explore.

And....if you had tickets from the Borghese your cost to get in here was just 5€ with no advance purchase needed.... We walked over and not on,y was the internet correct that we could get in for 5€ by showing our tickets from the Borghese, but NO ONE WAS HERE!!!! It was amazingly uncrowded and quiet..in September...in Rome...there is an amazing amount of fabulous art here and everyone is crowded into a few museums....and this isn't one of them, so I highly recommend a trip here if you want a break from the crowds. The museum is huge...we thought this was maybe a 1 hour activity but we were here several hours. The works from the Borghese were indeed here, but we saw so much more too. Staff were relaxed and friendly; I think they were also benefiting from the smaller crowds. Be ready to put all bags and water bottles into lockers. They take a 1€ coin that you get back when you pick up your items. The kind guard had some extra coins to loan to guests who like us didn't have change. Definitely don't miss this less crowded, and amazing museum.

Waaaah! Amaluna. Ama-was-really bored! Ama want my $126 back too!…read more What a letdown. I've seen four Cirque du Soleil shows and this one doesn't even seem to be good enough to put the Cirque du Soleil name on it. The show isn't cohesive at all. It's just one act after another, all talented, and they all do something interesting and impressive for about a minute or two, and then spend the next ten or fifteen minutes doing it again, and again, and again. Enough already. The music was upbeat and I think it gave the allusion that the show was better than it really was. Oh man, this was bad. I was so glad when the show was finally over. You know it's bad when a show features someone balancing bones for fifteen minutes. I wish I was kidding about that. I was thinking of being generous and giving it three stars but I don't what Cirque du Soleil throwing these sub-par shows at us and knowing we'll still go because of their name. Another thing is they were way too lax with people taking photos during the show They were even using flash! Not good! Not safe either. It's not cheap to see this show, but the Cirque de Soleil shows are usually worth it. Not this one. One good thing about the San Pedro venue where I saw it is that free street parking can easily be found just a five-minute walk away...which is great because I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there.

We were not in the very center, but we weren't in nose bleed seats either. From our seats we could not see the very front part of the stage. It was obstructed by one of the tent poles. It would have been nice if the web site had mentioned this before purchasing our tickets.
