Lovely space tucked (hidden) away on the water. It's difficult to know this place exists unless you look at Google (Apple) maps and stumble upon it. You will have to drive past a residential section and then a large shipping area and finally the cruise port before getting to this place. It has a large parking lot and was very quiet and empty when I visited at about 5:30pm on a Wednesday. The park has some benches and is very well-maintained. There were a few people there fishing by the waterline as well. The highlight of the park of course if the tear drop memorial...which is massive and beautiful. It was a gift from Russia in 2006 following the 1993 and 2001 WTC attacks. There is some interesting information about the monument, its history and construction on the official website. I suggest you take a quick look before going. There was one port-a-potty there but not the cleanest place to "go" as most port-a-pottys are.

"To the Struggle Against World Terrorism" AKA: Tear of Grief  AKA:Tear Drop Memorial A ten story sculpture by Russian artisit Zurab Tsereteli was given to the United States as an official gift from the Russian government as a memorial to the victims of the September 11 attacks in 2001 & the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Located on the peninsula in the harbor of Bayonne, this little section is specifically for the memorial with a view of where the Twin Towers once stood #neverforget. Definitely, better to see in person because pics don't do justice. There is a free parking lot. There is a porta potty. There is no fee. There are a few benches. Great view of NYC. It's a 5 star Memorial for people to go and remember that day and loved ones. There is really no reason why anyone should rate this Memorial anything less that 5 star.

We visited Liberty science center- Empty sky memorial and this in one day. its 20 mins drive from empty sky memorial. its inside New Jersey marine terminals, not like in some park or crowded location so we were very skeptical "are we going in the right direction", but kudos to GPS, we reached here. it was not crowded at all. in fact you can find more people in your neighborhood public park. Teardrop memorial is also known as To the Struggle Against World Terrorism or the Tear of Grief. when I saw the picture of this memorial on the internet, I did not think it would be this much bigger. its 10-story sculpture and was given to the United States as an official gift from the Russian government as a memorial to the victims of the September 11 attacks in 2001, 26 of whom were Russian and 1993 World Trade Center bombing. it's in Bayonne county. It was dust time and it was shining in copper color. You can have a good view of the Statue of liberty and Manhattan in the backdrop. Staten island ferry-Brooklyn bridge-Manhattan bridge- one can have a great view of these from this place. We spent around 45 minutes to 1 hr here. It was very soothing. Parking: it's free and very near to the memorial. this is not very popular but it's one of the best memorial dedicated to 9/11 victims. its hidden gem.

The Tear Drop Memorial, or known by its official name "To the Struggle Against World Terrorism" is located in Bayonne, New Jersey, right by the water where you can see New York City's skyline and The Statue of Liberty. This memorial is 100 foot tall (bronze tower) that has a split down the middle with a 40 foot stainless steel tear drop. At the base is an 11 sided black marble that has the name of every person who had died in the September 11 attacks, in addition to the victims of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Zurab Tsereteli is the famous Russian artist of this masterpiece. It was designed and created in Russia and then shipped over to New Jersey to be assembled. This memorial is a gift from Russia to the US to honor those that lost their lives and to also make a stand against terrorism. There was a dedication ceremony for this memorial on September 11, 2006 with former Bill Clinton in attendance, in addition to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Being that this memorial is out of the way and a drive to see it (~ 20 minutes from the more popular 9-11 memorial, Sky Memorial), it was pretty quiet when my husband, our little girl dog and I came out here on a Sunday, around 7:30 pm. Plenty of free parking available right at the memorial. There is one porta potty available in case you are desperate and really have to use it (but it did smell of urine when we passed by it to walk to the memorial). This memorial really is a beautiful sight and worth the drive out here. With the views of New York and of the ocean, it really makes for some great photos and also paints the scene for a peaceful and serene visit.

It was a beautiful day when we visited (summer 2017) and it's near the water, which I love. Lots of benches and places to reflect. There is also a walkway made of bricks that family/friends/etc. were able to purchase and have etched with their loved ones names. Across the water you can see where the twin towers stood and the Statue of Liberty is also visible. Truly an amazing place. It is at the end of a very long, windy roadway, but I didn't think it was too hard to find and I'm not from the area.

How many Russians, or for that matter Americans, know of the existence of this poke in the eye from Putin? I had only recently heard of the memorial and was completely unprepared for what I saw. As noted, it is in Bayonne at the end of a pier and one does indeed have to pass through an area full of current and former US Navy warehouses, now used by businesses, U.S. Customs inspection facilities, etc.... It's in a gritty area without food or sanitary facilities except for a parking lot. At least the parking is free. After a long ride, by NYC standards, along a pot hole filled road one comes to the cruise line departure/arrival facility and continues to the end of the road and then to the parking. You only get to really see this memorial from the side from this vantage point so, the best part awaits. After leaving one's car and walking a very short distance, one can really see the eyesore. Getting closer to the memorial just makes it very apparent that the first impression only worsens. The gaping hole, the shiny metallic ball in the black backdrop of the gash, and a copper colored outer skin is just awful. It's akin to a car wreck. They're horrible to see but, you can't stop staring. There is one saving grace. One can simply look down at the ground level pedestal which is a series of black marble slabs carved with the name of each 9/11 victim.

Five stars for the one and only Statue of Liberty…read more The first time I saw her, I'll be honest I laughed. Driving along the harbor, I squinted and thought, That's it? On TV she looks like a skyscraper with a torch. In real life, from a distance, she almost feels... small. Like seeing a rock star without the stage lights. But here's the thing: once you get out on the water and start heading toward Liberty Island, the whole experience changes. The boat ride is half the magic. The harbor air hits you, seagulls yelling overhead, the skyline flexing behind you. Ferries cut across New York Harbor, and if you're lucky you'll catch views from routes like the Staten Island Ferry, which cruises right past Lady Liberty like it's just another Tuesday commute. The closer you get, the more the story starts to sink in. Our guided tour? Fantastic. And the tour guide pure New York. That old-school accent you hear in movies? She had it dialed to eleven. Every word came out like it had been marinated in Brooklyn for 40 years. It felt authentic, gritty, and perfect for the moment. What made it even better was being there with my kids family in tow, cameras out, everyone taking it in. Watching my daughter stare up at the statue made the whole thing land differently. Suddenly it wasn't just a monument; it was a moment. A few fun facts while you're there: The statue was a gift from France to the United States in 1886. It was designed by sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and the iron framework inside was engineered by the same guy behind the Eiffel Tower Gustave Eiffel. From ground to torch she stands about 305 feet tall, and she greets the harbor right next to Ellis Island, where millions of immigrants first stepped into America. So yes she's smaller than TV makes you think. But standing there in the harbor wind, looking up at that oxidized green giant holding a torch over the water... you realize size was never the point. History, grit, and the idea of America that's the real monument.

Finally got to mark this one off the bucket list!…read more The boat ride over is great. You get amazing views of the statue from all sides. When booking your tickets make sure to add either a pedestal view or crown view. The only spots left were for the pedestal view which left us with incredible views of New York City and an up close view of the statue of liberty. Make sure to tour the museum. It had great facts and really interesting information on the building of the statue as well as the politics involved when building it.

I am very interested in my father's upbringing, and wanted to see his neighborhood, as well as important personal landmarks. Several people- including other local tour guides, told me this neighborhood was too dangerous and I should do something else with my time. Joe met me at my hotel, and we took the subway together to the old neighborhood. Not only did Joe make me feel safe, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and prepared. He brought pictures of special landmarks, like my father's apartment building (which no longer exists) and my father's favorite candy shop, which has been a bodega for decades. He was also able to tell me a great deal about the history of the neighborhood. I strongly recommend Joe to anyone looking for a tour guide.
