Team Karate Centers has been an amazing experience for our 6 year old son. He absolutely loves coming here and genuinely looks forward to every class and earning his next tip. The instructors are what really make this place special. They are patient, encouraging, and know how to challenge the kids while making them feel proud of their progress. We have loved watching our son grow in confidence, discipline, focus, and perseverance. They teach so much more than martial arts. The kids learn respect, resilience, and the value of working toward a goal, all in a positive and supportive environment. Our only wish is that they were open seven days a week because our son would probably be there every day if he could! We are so happy we found Team Karate Centers and highly recommend it! read more

Team Karate Centers is a very welcoming dojo for all ages, especially the kids, to help with confidence and community, and the different styles of martial arts I think, is very well rounded enough for any enthusiasts to learn. I've been going for a while now and Sensei Fariborz is a fun challenge to work with, the way he can change it up and yet keep it accessible through the class with good humor and support. If you practice and commit you will have a very rewarding experience for yourself and the class. Thank you Sensei Fariborz for your enthusiasm and encouragement. read more

My kids and I LOVE Team Karate Center. Everyone from the instructors, to the facility, to the kids and families are the best. What sets it apart is how they set karate as backdrop of being a values driven person on the mat and off. The friendly character just radiates happiness, success, hard work, and awesomeness. The Martial Arts History Museum & Hall of Fame have recently released a biography of Sensei Fariborz. It's very well done and I highly recommend the 30 minute video here. Watching it, I'm reminded of how thankful I am to be a part of this studio and have Sensei as my teacher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs68ooypcu8 read more

After signing my 4 year old son up for the amazing Little Dragons with Sensei Jared and seeing how much fun he was having, I was inspired to look into and take classes myself. I had taken Tae Kwan Do back in college, but it had been quite some time. I met a mother in the class that had started taking classes after similarly being inspired and loved the adult class. Sensei Fariborz and the entire community of Team Karate Centers was so welcoming and supportive. I was concerned about taking a class with so many different skill levels, but Sensei Fariborz created and provided an amazing app that was game changing. It contains all the curriculum and many of the skills taught in the class for self practice. This allows me to work on the skills and techniques needed for my belt independently, and then bring questions for improvement to the class. I feel like the school is seriously embracing the tools available to us today and it's EXTREMELY helpful. I cannot speak enough of the community at the school. As i mentioned before, my 4 year old takes classes there as well, and we are far from being unique. I've met so many families taking classes together. The school goes out of its way to foster a strong and welcoming environment. read more

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this center for kids. And they refuse to have basic health and safety protocols to protect children. I was very exciting to have my special needs son start karate but this won't be the place. An owner that says the rules shouldn't apply to him sets a bad example. The parking situation is also a nightmare. read more

I have to say, I was a little disappointed with this place. I bought a Groupon for here, the staff is really friendly and some of the instructors are great. But overall I'm not a fan of the fact that they combined the kids with the adults in the same class. Also, they don't have any classes on Fridays I didn't sign up for a membership. But I have a feeling this is great for kids. It's just not very focused and all over the place. I wish there were clearer lines from style to style, from technique to technique and for the age range of classes. read more

I cannot day enough great things about the studio and all the teachers and Linda!! They are so patient with each student. If someone is needing some one on one Attention they are quick to meet that child's individual need. They don't not push your child! Lots of encouragement!! read more

So it's been nearly ten years since my children became members of the Team Karate Centers family. Wow! Time has really flown by. They have learned so much from so many wonderful people there. EVERYONE gives of themselves and cares about what they are doing. My children are now second degree black belts and my daughter will be leaving for college soon. I have confidence that she will be able to take care of herself not just physically, but emotionally as well. The self confidence she has developed gives me comfort and joy. I have only nice things to say about Sensei Fariborz and his staff. Mr Bill. Mr Robert just to make a few, have had the most impact on our family. read more

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. ...those were the words framed above my head the evening of my black belt testing and its true it doesn't stop there, were always learning! I grew up taking gymnastics at a nearby Gymnasium, Le Club. To break the monotony of being in the gym , we chose an elective class. Choosing martial arts over ballet changed my life forever! Fariborz is a great teacher and the studio at TKC is addicting. Who wouldn't feel good learning self defense, this sport chisels your body and mind. Go in for yourself and see the studio provides great energy and is an awesome learning environment for all ages. read more

They also feature Benny "The Jet" Urquidez on staff teaching kickboxing as well as Ron Balicki teaching, Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts, ShootWresting and Thai Boxing! The school owner Mr. Fariborz is dedicated to the arts and had an active relationship with every member as well as the parents of every child in the program. Team Karate Centers is one of the leading martial arts schools in the country. I should know this because I have been training under Master Fariborz at this facility, since 1987, when I was only 7 years old. Everything I have learned from the martial arts, I have been able to use in my daily life. It is not only learning self-defense, but life skills that lead to a certain way of life. It has instilled in me a great deal of self-confidence, self-esteem, discipline, and focus that I know would not be there without my training. For the last 25 years, I have had the privilege of training Hapkido blend from one of the most recognized martial artists in the industry, his teacher Master Steve Sexton (8th Dan Hapkido), as well his teacher, GM Lee Jung Bae, who was one of the original students of the founder of Hapkido in Korea. Not only does this school specialize in the art of Hapkido, but also derives its curriculum from many other systems, such as Kali, Eskrima, JKD, Machado BJJ, Silat, and of course Benny The Jet's Ukidokan Kickboxing!! I have had the honor of not only being Master Fariborz's student and one of his instructors, but in the process have had the privilege to train with such recognized martial artists who can be found on any given day within the walls of TKC, such as Sensei Cecil Peoples, Sensei Benny The Jet (Ukidokan Karate and Kickboxing), Peter "Sugarfoot" Cunningham, Sifu Ron Balicki, and Sensei Richard Norton just to name a few. The passion that TKC and Master Fariborz instilled in me for the arts lead me to eventually open my own school with another long time student and instructor. He helped us from the beginning, and has been with us every step of the way. For that and all he has taught me, I am forever grateful. This dojang (martial arts school) is more than just a training facility, it is a home that you will always feel welcome in. It doesn't get much better than TKC, which is why people come from all over the world to visit its hallowed mats. read more

I looked this place up on Yelp and am floored they do not have more reviews. Many many more reviews. My daughter trained here for some time. This place is big, very big. It's very kid friendly. Maybe more so then places I'm accustomed to. But make no mistake, this place has a lot of very high level fighters/instructors, many whom I know or know of. The owner Is Fariborz. Fariborz trained under Steve Sexton a personal friend of mine. Steve Sexton is a living legend in the San Fernando Valley. He even has a book written about him from his bar room brawling days. Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, any of you know who he is? Well he teaches her as well. Pete "Sugerfoot" Cunningham? He's here as well. This place has the best of the best here. Not just Hapkido guys, but professional champion kick boxers. They teach ground fighting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu too which is my style. They take from all styles rather then just study and teach one style. If you live in the San Fernando Valley I highly recommend this place. If you have kids then I give this place a 6 star rating. Take them here and you'll be doing your children the best thing ever. I only wish there was a place like this that I could have gone to when I as a kid. read more

We just enrolled our 13 yr old daughter for classes here and I had no idea about the history of this place and the famous dedicated teachers here such as Steve Sexton and Benny "The Jet" to name a few. But most of all the teachers really care about the students and teach more than just martial arts, it is respect, confidence, etc. they really care and take the time to one on one train. They also send weekly emails which also reflect the love they have for their students and teaching. I am so glad to have found this place that feels like a family. read more

I had originally signed up to learn karate and achieve a black belt however, I left with knowledge and friendships that have changed my life. I recommend all the amazing instructors and staff to anyone looking to learn self defense while being taught in a family oriented atmosphere. I started martial arts while I was still in elementary school and because of the training I received on the mat it truly helped with my focus in school and also achieving my pilots license and beyond. Thank You to Master Fariborz and all the instructors who have taught me so many valuable lessons in the past and for the future! read more

This place is super kid friendly. Lots going on! Sensei Sam is heaven sent, he is amazing with kids. Both of my kids went to TKC for 4 years till they received their first Black Belt. They were both elementary schooler & now teens. For four years both of my kids eat their dinner , finish home work assignments at TKC right after school before starting their karate classes till late evening. Our master Mr. Fariborz & his team thought both of my kids to respect , love & believe in themselves & others. As a mother I believe TKC is a school of moral to teach kids life discipline & self-esteem . I highly recommend this place to every single parents . It's a honor to know Mr. Fariborz . He is a real human being with big heart . Thank you for your leadership read more

This place is amazing! My 3.5 year old son is very anxious and doesn't like participating in sports or activities with strangers. (Runs away, cries, etc). We love how personal they made his experience and fully recommended this karate center to everyone!! Thank you to Mr. Ryan for being so wonderful and helping my son build confidence!!! read more

TKC is amazing in so many different aspects. My 3 olders boys love it. It teaches them respect, confidence, disapline and honestly. I used to be a student of Master Fariborz when we lived in Canoga Park 25 years ago. He is an amazing instructor and mentor. The techniques you learn will stay with you for a life time. I have taught at Team Karate Center on and off for almost 10 years and can confidently say that it is a sacred space with caring individuals whose sole purpose is to enrich children's lives with Confidence and a sense of one's self. The mat at TKC has been a place to learn, to sweat, to release frustration, to be humbled, to celebrate victory, to empower myself, to expose my fears, to face those fears eye to eye, to improve, to grow, to strive, to meet me, and to continuously improve me. TKC engages body, mind, and yes even your soul. read more

I have been a student of Master Fariborz's since I was six. I am now 28. In the 2 decades i've spent there I have learned so much. We first learned traditional hapkido techniques (including throws, falls, and joint locks). Over time Master Fariborz blended in grappling and kickboxing techniques leading to Hapkido Blend. Over my time I have had unique opportunities to train with some world champion wrestlers, boxers, grapplers and kickboxing. Currently advance students have the ability to train with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a childhood role model of mine! More important than the physical aspect of the Martial Arts, Master Fariborz emphasizes the mental and spiritual needs. This is what makes Team Karate Centers and Martial Arts as a whole so powerful: when you can be mentally and spiritually ready for something physical--be it a sparring match, or a long exam for your next belt--you will be ready to face any challenge in life. Two of the greatest things I have taken from my time at TKC is to be Goal Oriented and Focused. Being Goal Oriented doesn't just mean knowing what you want, but being able to plan out what's needed to reach that goal. There is no doubt in my mind that without the personal skills I learned through my time at TKC I would not have excelled like I had in school and college. Nor would I have been motivated to attend grad school and get the job I have now. None of that would have been possible with the teaching staff an Master Fariborz himself. To this day Master Fariborz stays up to date with me and is around when I need advice. If you want your child to grow up to be strong (physically, mentally and spiritually), confident, and have lifelong role models that are a phone call away, I HIGHLY Recommend Team Karate Centers. read more

This martial arts studio is one of the few that really tries to see the needs of the student and cater to it. It has amazing instructors that are well trained and know how to teach in a way that is helpful to everybody. The people there, even the other students, are the nicest people I have met in my entire life and you will make great friends. I have been there for five years and expect to be there much longer. Not only will you become a good martial artist but you will also grow leaps as a person. They have great programs for kids 3 and up who love learning and exorcising there. Teens and adults have classes at all different times to fit your schedule. There really isn't enough that can be said about Team Karate Centers. read more

Team Karate Centers is more than just a karate studio. I personally train there for two years now and this place is like a second home to me. The instructors have a great way to teach the students, regardless if children, teens or adults. The owner, Master Fariborz, is very dedicated to martial arts and to his students. He is an amazing instructor and person. He makes you feel welcome the moment you step in and I promise you will want to come back. He and all the instructors really care about you and the progress you make. The curriculum includes hapkido, kickboxing, bjj, jeet kune do and other martial arts. Well-known martial artists like Sensei Benny "The Jet" Urquidez and Ron Balicki teach there and contribute a special part to the studio. If you look for a great martial art studio for your child or yourself, this is the place to go. You'll have the experience of your lifetime! read more

My boys have been going here, regularly, for over 2 years now. I have seen the impact that not only the classes and curriculum has had upon my boys, but the sense of accomplishment they feel when the master another skill. TKC is not a belt factory, the students must work for their successes, and my boys have been taught this skills of respect and dedication. Before we started here we had checked out a few other schools, I am grateful that we decided upon TKC as it has been an amazing experience. Last but not least, TKC is a community, the instructors are invested in the accomplishments of the students and the instructors dedication shows. If you are looking at martial arts schools I would highly suggest you spend some time at TKC. read more

I recently started training here at Team Karate Centers and it has been a wonderful experience. The teachers and classes are top notch and the students are all so friendly and helpful. It already feels like I am part of the family! I love the idea of "Hapkido blend" where they incorporate a combination of techniques and principles from a variety of Martial Arts styles, including Hapkido, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Kali, Kobudo, Wing Chun and weapons, all of which provide me with a well-balanced, "streetsmart" self-defense style. I am also a big fan of their approach to strengthen the body by mixing in various exercises programs like cross-fit. To date I have lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks and I feel great! I recommend TKC to anyone thinking about joining a martial arts studio for self defense training or simply wants to get in shape! read more
