I have suffered for so many years from chronic pain. Mostly it was caused by being at a high stress desk job all day and lifting weights after work. I spent thousands and thousands of dollars on various doctors and treatments after years of debilitating pain. I saw chiropractors, physical therapists, rheumatologists, athletic trainers, massage therapists, acupuncturists, cupping therapists, a Chinese medicine doctor, yoga classes, etc. all the way from Thousand Oaks to Orange County. Despite staying fit and active throughout my 35 years via running, bicycling, dancing, swimming, hiking, and weightlifting, my body has been out of alignment for some time. I've been experiencing harsh lower back pain for the last 3-5 years but didn't fully realize just how detrimental my posturing has been to my shoulders, back and legs until I started doing Pilates at Teague Classical Pilates in T.O. and began to realign, reorganize, and become pain-free by utilizing my core in a way that was completely foreign to me during decades of exercise. I used to revel in slouching as it always felt the more comfortable choice but now that I have learned some basic aspects of Pilates and rearranged my body, it's no longer fun to slouch but feels better to align. Learn how to really engage your core, strengthen your deep obliques, stand strong in your feet, and utilize a Herculean belly. If that all sounds a bit hoity-toity, I've been working out at gyms since I was a teenager but never have my abs looked so firm as they do after a Pilates session with Master teacher Cathie Teague. Cathie has a comprehensive knowledge of the human musculature system and while she's working with me can decipher every minuscule movement of my bones and muscles almost as if she's looking at an anatomy textbook in motion. She instantly identifies where I'm out of alignment and eloquently articulates Classical Pilates techniques to assuage my pains and aches. It often feels like Cathie has an extrasensory perception of human anatomy and has a profound way of expressing complex and unusual techniques. She somehow knew that I was a lifetime bicycle rider, an avid free-form dancer and that I pulled my back out of alignment by certain weightlifting practices. She ascertained all that not by asking me but simply by observing my body mechanics. I was in awe of how much my body transformed in just a handful of sessions, how the pain in my lower back subsided and how I feel more coordinated. My wife, who is being instructed by another excellent teacher at the studio named Maha, feels the same way is completely transformed and revitalized. Neither of us have had the pleasure of being instructed by Trudi but she doubles as a teacher and at front desk duty and is the kindest, most gentle person who is extremely helpful with arranging our appointments. Peggy, who was my initial introduction to Teague as I spoke with her over the phone after seeing an ad in a local pamphlet, made the process of signing up easy and seamless and made us feel very welcome before we even went in. This excellent Pilates studio is also a spa with an emphasis on body alignment and healing. I won't go into the details of the spa components but I will tell say everything I've tried is beneficial and Gerald is an extraordinary masseuse and has developed a specific technique called neuromuscular therapy which alleviates stress, tension and aggravation. When Gerald first learned of the treatment, he went from being in so much agony it hurt for him just to step on to a curb but he became absolutely pain free overnight. It's been a process to recondition my physical conditioning but my lower back pain has all but disappeared in just a few months of training. Teague does offer a vast array of exceptional group classes but if you're like me and are curious about Pilates but are too embarrassed to try it out in a group setting, Teague Classical Pilates in Thousand Oaks is the spot to come. I was intrigued to learn about this therapeutic core strengthening and body aligning technique and Teague is a great fit as they offer private lessons where there is no shame and instructors work with you one-on-one to provide the most healing and organization of your body tailored to your needs. read more

I was hesitant about Pilates, as I am a gym person . First time I took a private class at this beautiful clean, and professional studio, I was hooked. My personal instructor is MAHA BUKHARI. She is very knowledgeable and has thought me so much about my body and what it can do ! She is very focused on my form and corrects me when it's needed. I joined this studio during my senior year at Pepperdine and it's my favorite form of exercise and relaxation! The studio is incredible at accommodating my ever-changing schedule, and provides confirmation calls to remind me of my upcoming sessions. My personal instructor is Trudi Brothers. She is truly the best and the most encouraging! I have owned Pilates Studios in Chicago, Illinois for over 20 years. My first Pilates equipment was from a small equipment manufacturer in Colorado (they were bought out by Peak). As my business expanded, as well as the industry, I purchased additional equipment from one of the larger, reputable Pilates equipment manufacturers but was not always 100% happy with some of the features of the equipment - the Footbar seemed too thick, th Carriage too long and too wide, the vinyl too slippery, the ropes not right as a tool due to clients not connecting to them and not stabilizing with them, the Shoulders Pads slightly too wide, etc. After many years of this reputable brand being the main supplier of Pilates equipment that I used, I decided to switch to another company, Teague Pilates Equipment. My first purchase was a new Ladder Barrel. Not only do the Instructors love it but, so do the clients. Everything about it is perfect - th construction, the dimensions, the fabric, the cushioning and these of changing it. Six months later I purchased a Reformer to test it out comparatively to the brand name company that I had used for years. I fell in love with it instantly. Every little detail that I was concerned with from the other manufacture was solved with Teague Pilates Equipment. This manufacturer knows how to construct Pilates equipments with sound solid materials for the Pilates studio where we deal with various clients of various shapes and sizes. Every Pilates instructor that I employee has come back to me with in one week to tell me how much they love th new Reformer by Teague Pilates Equipment over the other manufacturer. I will definitely be ordering all of my equipment from this company as my business continues to grow. No doubt about it. Both pieces of equipment were on sale at excellent prices comparatively. I've been taking Pilates classes at Teague for about 5 years. I love the studio, the convenience of being able to choose from a variety of classes and times. The instructors are very knowledgeable and they are diligent about making sure the students perform the exercises correctly using proper form. The studio owners are constantly evolving the course offerings. . . The most recent is a new technique called "aerial" using hammocks attached to beams. This is a great workout using Pilates movements with the hammocks and it is a great addition to the core classes. I deal with constant pain and Teague Pilates offers Neuro Muscular Therapy that really helps lower my pain level. On top of that Gerald Teague the owner, has a ton of experience. I workout a lot lifting weights and stay in pretty good shape, but Gerald gave me some insight that dramatically improved my workouts. Turns out he has a lot of experience with weight lifting and understands a lot of its pitfalls. He gave me advise to help my workout get better results without the pain!!! Great customer service as well. My wife enjoys the Pilates classes, the Turbo Sonic and the Infra-Red Sauna. The first time I walked into Teague I was blown away with the bright, clean, happy environment! I've been coming almost two years now and still, every time I walk in, feel such peace. I do the Core Link (great full body toning), Turbo Sonic (melts away tension), and the infrared sauna (my fountain of youth)! The Pilates is so wonderful and all of the teachers are super sweet and helpful. I am a makeup artist so, as you my know, a lot of positions in the service industry can be hard on the body. I never actually made it to the sign up part of my Teague experience. I have taken Pilates at various studios but Teague personnel said I needed to pay $59 for an introductory "evaluation" class when I called to express interest in their studio. I showed up and a very old man in a suit talked my ear off for an hour and a half, led me through some various Pilates moves on a reformer and then took me into this very small room where I was told I would have to pay $199 to join for the year along with the commitment of a minimum monthly on a credit card. I was so mad about the old bait and switch by getting me in for an "evaluation" and then being told if I signed up my "evaluation" fee would be part of the enrollment. No thanks. Cute place but not for me. Didn't like the way they do business. And the guy told me yoga was really bad for you. Big no. read more

About 4 months ago, I decided that I wanted to take Pilates classes to help tone my body, strengthen my core and have an alternative to the normal exercising that I do at the health club. I wrote down the names and addresses of about 6 studios in the Agoura Hills/Westlake Village area and set out on a Friday to take a look. I specifically did NOT go to Teague because of the review posted here by Yogina D. What I found when I tried to go to the other studios was that most of them were closed and the one or two that were open had one instructor conducting a private lesson or a very small class. They were all quite small with minimal equipment and again, for 2/3 of them all I could do was peek in the window. Since this was in the middle of the day on a Friday, I thought that was not a very good sign. Reluctantly, I decided to go to Teague, and I found that it is a large, bright, beautifully decorated facility offering many classes, both private, semi-private and group. The staff there was very gracious and showed interest in my fitness goals, listening carefully to my needs. I ended up joining Teague, and I want to say that for anyone who is looking, DON'T skip this place in your search. The instructors are all top notch, the administrative staff is helpful and pleasant, the studio itself is lovely and the variety of classes offered is outstanding. Their pricing is by far the best in the area. I can't imagine anything that would make it better unless they want to give classes away for free! read more

I've been attending classes at Teague for about 6 months now. All of the instructors, although different in teaching style, are wonderful and consistent. All of them share these characteristics; however, some stand out: Deirdre, for instance, is methodical and keeps me on target with timing. Karin loves to make me sweat. Perri is encouraging and has helped me grow in so many ways by breaking down the choreography and explaining what muscles I should be working. Her classes and private lessons have helped me transform my body from having lower back and knee pain to feeling more limber and free. Vicky, an apprentice, is great in teaching the Level 2 exercises with their names and function. Kimberly is always energetic at the front desk and, when I'm lucky, fills in for a class and kicks my ass. ;) Cathy Teague is a Master and body reader; it's as though she can see through me and knows exactly what my body is doing and reacting to. She has helped me think with my muscles and concentrate more on my breathing. Love Cindy at the front desk. She's also a former dancer. Ask to hear some of her stories. All in all, Pilates has transformed me in body and mind. I'm a former dancer and have past knee and back injuries. Yoga used to hurt me. Last week I visited Teague Pilates I have never tried Pilates in my life lots of Yoga and Surfing however ! The older gentleman who is the owner spent a good 2 1/2 hours with me explained what Pilates does for the body he even explained that flow yoga is very good but once you start holding positions and stretching your muscles that's when it can be harmful . I would've never believed that except that I am now 59 and have facet joint arthritis and have been having some really bad pain after my Ashtanga yoga sessions. Thanks to him I realize that those were the sessions I was holding my stretching the poses the longest! Anyway, then he took me through some exercises it was very interesting and was really impressed by how much time and how patient he was with me not bad for 60 bucks ! He also invited my me and my daughter who had driven me there due to my broken right foot to try the infrared machine and then we both got on the turbo wave we had a great time and I signed up for two years. Don't know if I am going to be able to get into Pilates but due to my broken foot I cannot surf and need some kind of low impact exercise but if this turns out to not be my thing all I have to do is give 30 days notice which I think is really fair. Everyone there is really nice and it is a really cool ambience as well! read more
