History
Established in 1983.
Teachers' Tutoring Service (TTS), with support from the BC Teachers' Federation (BCTF), was established in 1983 as a co-operative of under-employed teachers. Our mandate was to provide professional tutoring at a reasonable rate. TTS was registered as a non-profit Society in 1987 and 1989 became independent of the BCTF. The Society continues to grow with a steadily increasing client and tutor base.
In 1990, the Tutoring Aid Society (TAS), a registered charity, was set up to provide subsidized tutoring to students from low-income families. TAS receives its funding from TTS tutors and over the years various organizations such as the Vancouver Foundation, Hamber Foundation, The Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation, The Morris and Helen Belkin Foundation, The CKNW Orphans' Fund, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Chevron Canada and the BC Gaming Commission.
