We walked the streets near the museums for about an hour because we couldn't remember where it was, but it was worth the trek when we finally found it. The guy working there was extremely helpful in helping us choose some local IPA's. They also carry a lot of our favorite beers from Amsterdam, so I was super excited about that. They sell beer from Louisville Kentucky's Against the Grain Brewing that I can't even get where I live! All those Spaniards out there need to check that brewery out! One suggestion: Start stocking Crew Republic beer from Germany. It's fantastic!

The lady working spoke broken English (which was great!) and gave us plenty of suggestions. I only wish we had a bigger suitcase to bring more home! Prices were excellent and we were very pleased with her willingness to help.

5 Stars for a wonderful vermouth tasting!…read more While planning a family trip to Spain I made sure to look for tasting experiences in each city. In Madrid, I found a guided Vermouth tasting (through Airbnb Experiences) at Madrid & Darracot. It's priced at 20 Euro per person (Fridays and Saturdays) and also available for booking directly through their website. We initially had a tough time finding the shop as it had recently moved locations just up the street, but once we did we had a great time! Our guide was Irish (if I recall) and Spanish, so he was able to do the tasting in English, but also answer questions from my parents in Spanish. He took us through four very distinct Vermouths and helped us get an understanding of the importance of this drink in the country. It was informative, fun, and we got recommendations for the rest of our stay. We of course grabbed a couple of bottles for the evening and we're really impressed by not only their wine and vermouth collection, but also their spirits (including bourbon). Overall, I would highly recommend booking a tasting while in Madrid!

I think they mainly carry Spanish wines (to be expected), but we simply told them what we like, and their suggestions were on point. The FOOD!! We tried two types of meat that were incredible and it made us realize we must get at least a small cheese plate with it that was also incredible. My wife is gluten-free, and they did a small HOT gluten free loaf for her that she said was the best she's had in a long time. I also had a small plate of meatballs, and they were amazing. To conclude, an amazing experience that might be a little off the beaten path, but definitely worth the effort! (Sometimes the food was so good I forgot to take a pic before we ate half the plate)

Plus, this shopfront is small and not particularly descript so you might walk right by it if you were not searching for it. However, if you know better, you will find a reason to pause, duck in, and take a break! There are small tables within to eat there but there is only 1 at the shop front window alcove. If you time it right, you can grab this table and stuff your pie hole with local sausages, cured meats, and Spanish wine, beer or Vermouth while watching Madridian life pass you by. There may not be a better way to ruin what could have been an otherwise productive day! The menu is substantial but is largely made up of combinations of the various cured meats and cheeses that the shop is known for. Unlike spots that promote only Iberian ham and Manchego cheese, Casa González has all manner of meats and cheeses so it is a fantastic spot to go to for variety within this genre. I think that only strict vegans will be angered by what is on offer here. I recommend Casa Gonzalez for a meat and cheese orgy if you are in the area. They have been doing this since 1931 so you know that they have a winning formula.

There was Coopers from Australia, Left Hand Brewery from Colorado (go CO!), Flying Dog from the East Coast, great bitter beer from England, a vast collection of Belgian ales, local beers and ciders. The staff is very helpful and passionate about beer. They will gladly answer your questions. They have, in my opinion, great prices for the beers too. I don't know what people regularly pay for beer, but considering these are all imports, I was impressed with the prices. I'm looking forward to my next beer when I can show up with a vast worldwide collection of great beer.
