-a tiny non-profit featuring a handful of interesting native birds including the critically endangered Takahe -only about 300 left in the wild. You want to be there at 9:30 am because that's when the guide feeds the birds, starting with the Takahe-they even let you go inside the enclosure for better pictures. At this point they also ask for donations to help out with the program so don't be a jerk and pony up some dough.
Worth an hour during your stay. read more
