It comes with meat sauce but you can get marinara. The sauce seemed excessively oily. Poured out a lot of the oil before eating it. This still wasn't that bad, just not like it was anything at all special. Food was made pretty fast. It was ready by the time they said it would be so that's one good thing about it. This would have been better if they had dine in but it's just to go so whatever.

We sat at the bar and the one bartender tried his best to keep up with the drink orders for the whole restaurant & the bar patrons drink & food orders. As we approached a wait of 1 hour & 35 minutes, we asked the bartender to have the meals placed in to go boxes. 10 more minutes go by without our meals and we asked to speak to a member of management. What was concerning was the restaurant manager on duty only came out when we requested to speak with a manager. In a calm tone, asked the manager on duty if a 1 hr 45 minute wait for our meals was reasonable. He tried to tell us that they were very busy and the kitchen was behind. Agreed. When asked if we should pay for a meal that was severely delayed he agreed the wait was excessive and he would cover the cost of the meal. I appreciate this reaction from the manager on duty. Unfortunately, when we took our meals to go, we didn't have a good experience with the meals. Received one chicken breast grilled and one breaded for the Portofino Pollo dish. Looked like they grabbed what was up at the time in the kitchen and placed it in the to go containers. Flavors were bland, likely a result of being rushed after a 1 hr 45 min wait. This might be coincidental but being short staffed at the Compton Hills location when they are opening a new location in Geneva is probably what led to the severe delays from the kitchen in servicing meals. Hope the opening of the Geneva location doesn't adversely impact the Campton Hills location beyond our dining visit experience. I gave a rating of 2 as the Manager on Duty did agree to cover the meal cost. The bartender tried to keep us from leaving by offering us a drink on the house to stay after we asked for the meals to be placed in to go boxes to take home at that point versus staying and dining. Proactive customer support would've helped versus a reactive attempt of customer support. Didn't penalize the bartender and provided a cash tip since the kitchen's delay was not his fault. Let's hope Portofino Trattoria does better in the future.

I called in an order and was quoted a 20-minute wait. The chicken parm sandwich was excellent: generously cheesy, with a tangy sauce that avoided being overly sweet. The bread was lightly buttered with just a hint of garlic, adding flavor without overpowering the sandwich. The chicken itself was thick, juicy, and very tender... not dry, not greasy, just done right. The way you expect it to be. The ribs were equally satisfying. They were very tender, tho not quite falling off the bone, but close enough to show proper cooking, they had a rich, smoky sauce that had real depth of flavor glazed over them. The fries were the only minor miss; they could have been crispier and benefited from a touch more salt, but they didn't detract from the overall meal. All told, this was a great experience and exactly the kind of quality local spot worth adding to the regular rotation. The menu is extensive, and there are several other items I'm eager to try. They home-make pizza and freeze some to be available when pizza isn't happening. When the server said "frozen pizza," I wasn't super excited but it was the best cheese pizza! They let me know that you can always call ahead for them to make or keep a specific pizza to buy frozen for carryout or when the pizza kitchen is closed. Occasionally I'll be naughty and get a burger there cause they're just so good. They (almost always) season their burgers really well so it's super flavorful. Their appetizers are fun and unexpected as well. The staff is usually really chill. Donna, the owner, is the sweetest thing ever, and her husband is super sweet and fun but with some rough edges. I admit that the interior could really use a tune up but all their food and hospitality certainly make up for it.
