Unfortunately, our experience with Idaho Heart Institute was extremely disappointing. We had…read moreseveral appointments there, and the nurse practitioner, who I believe was named Terry, left us feeling frustrated and completely unheard. We had questions about what was going on and about the tests being ordered, but our questions were not adequately answered or explained. At times, we were made to feel as though we should already know the answers to our own medical questions. The problem is, **we aren't medical professionals--we're patients.** We shouldn't be made to feel foolish for asking questions or wanting to understand our own care. A number of tests were scheduled, but we weren't given clear explanations about what the tests were for, what the doctors were looking for, or what the results could mean. Communication and patient education should be a basic part of medical care, especially when you're dealing with something as serious and stressful as heart health. Our overall impression was that the appointments felt rushed and impersonal, as though the priority was getting us through the appointment and scheduling more tests rather than taking the time to actually listen to us and explain what was happening. We left feeling like our concerns and questions were an inconvenience rather than something our healthcare providers wanted to address. **Patients deserve to understand their care, have their questions answered, and be treated with respect. We did not feel that we received that at Idaho Heart Institute.

After a heart attack and surgery, i found out my former cardiologist, Dr. Gorman, had retired, so I asked for Dr, Rhodehouse, who had seen me in the emergency room. Dr. Rhodehouse analyzed my "final" meds from the hospital, saw my blood pressure from our recording them was still too high, so redid my heart meds. After that, my blood pressure fell into an acceptable range. He also discussed cardiac rehab, recommending the two major cardiac rehab offerings. I asked him which one he would recommend and he deferred, but then did say he was the director of one of them. Given how pleased I was overall, I went with his rehab location. I'm very impressed and was pleased with the change by the Heart Institute.
