I stumbled across this square on one of my random lunchtime walks when I was working not far from the area, and it made a bit of an impression on me as it's got some interesting sculptures and memorials there, plus it's a very pleasant and relaxing little square in central London.
There is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a stone commemorating conscientious objectors, and a bust of Virginia Woolf (who used to be a resident of the square), amoung many others. A cherry tree has been planted in memory of the victims of the bombing of Hiroshima, I found the humble beauty of the tree quite striking in constrast to the horrific events it commemorates, and of course in Spring the blossom will be beautiful.
The square isn't far from the British museum or Euston, so it's a good place to stroll over to if you're in the area. read more
