What I was struck by, but really appreciate, is their flat pricing structure. Choose your food item and pay one price, regardless of what protein filling you get. As a customer, it's more enjoyable because I can change up my protein choice without feeling like I'm nickled and dimed.

It could have used some diced tomatoes and jalapeño though. It was the best item the restaurant has to offer. The chips were lacking flavor. I ordered a chicken burrito. It was mostly shredded iceberg lettuce. It had some chicken, peppers and a few pieces of corn and pinto beans. Very ordinary but edible. My wife ordered tacos. Four of the smallest tacos I have seen were smothered with diced onions. She was also less than impressed. Casita Mexicana is just another average restaurant that tries their best, but just serves the typical "Euro-Mex" food. It just isn't the same as good Mexican food from the Southwestern U.S. (Or Mexico, of course). There were only two other couples in the restaurant, yet the girl sat us in the back, right next to the toilet. Didn't realize it until I was eating and started smelling it. Poor decision by the staff.

Casita Mexicana was an unexpected delight in Cologne with a nice vibe and a lively crowd. Cactus is a rarity on many menus in the U.S. but it was well-prepared and available in their dishes. This review is really 4.5 stars and only thing preventing the full 5 stars. Is the use of feta cheese instead of the Mexican cheeses. It gave more of an odd flavor than anything else. Overall, a fun and flavorful night.

We have tried many "Mexican" restaurants in Germany and this is -- by far -- the best Mexican restaurant. We really miss Mexican food being that we're from California and you can tell by the dishes that this is true Mexican cuisine. The owners are from Mexico and if you want to level up your spice to your dish they have other spicer sauces like habanero which is difficult to find in Germany. They decorated really well and have huge painted murals and have Spanish music playing while dining, we will absolutely return the next time we're in Köln.

Here, you will not get the whole variety of the Mexican kitchen either. But, you'll be served authentic, real tasty snacks and bar food (tacos, quesadillas, burritos etc.) of superb quality. The typical Tex-Mex cumin taste is barely noticeable, which I prefer. All other ingredients are fresh, well balanced and dips are homemade. Spices are used up to a point where you can still enjoy the original flavor with a scent of sweat on your forehead, but without ruining your taste buds. And, not to forget: this is a Mexican bar! So, there is a solid selection of Mexican and Spanish beers (including non-alcoholic beers) as well as a whole variety of different tequilas (no non-alcoholic ;) ). This unobtrusive place won my heart in a beat. I'll be back soon for round two :))
