Today I finally found that person! So I decided to go back to Mila today. When I arrived, I jokingly told Monica, the person who provided the service, that we needed to have a consultation (smiling, but serious) because I didn't want my eyebrows made thin or the tails cut off, because once it's gone, you can't get it back until it grows back and mine grows at a slow pace. She listened carefully to exactly what I wanted, and we had a great conversation while she worked. She also threaded the sides of my face, and everything turned out beautifully. She gave me exactly the shape I was hoping for without taking off more than I wanted. It's such a relief to finally find someone who listens and takes the time to understand what you're looking for. I couldn't find anything on the interwebs that really conveyed what I wanted it to. I found artist Chris Barton on Instagram and after following him for a while I decided that his style was something I loved and that I though would suit the piece well. We emailed back and forth a few times with a pretty vague description of what I was hoping for, and I had to set my appointment out 8 weeks in advance (they were busy, a great sign!). I didn't see the sketch until I arrived which worried me a bit, but all my fears were calmed the minute I looked at it! I explained my concerns with past tattoo artists who had heavy hands, causing some scarring underneath the tattoo. As someone with darker skin, this is a real concern! He took his time, paid attention to every single detail, and the result was perfect. You could see the artists around the studio were all extremely dedicated to their crafts and styles, and that's why I still sing their praises though I haven't gotten any more tattoos since then. The artist was friendly and explained to me fully every step he was taking to ensure the piece was just right--very professional. Two 3 - 3.5 hour sessions did the trick. Caduceus symbol using inks of black, gray and shades of gray were the goal. Kat roared past the goal and blew me away with grace and understanding of my intent. Along the way, Mike & Kat spoke with me, to me, about movies, books, bourbon, music, and explained some of the art and photos in their really, really unique studio. My first session had me discovering a B&W photo of Richmond, Virginia just post-Civil War. Totally destroyed but with a Greek columned building standing. Because Caduceus is a Greek symbol, we talked about the South, the war and loads of other things. Kat and I talked energy, foods, places we've lived and want to see, Short North pubs and bars, dreams and a truck load of other things.... while she calmly placed herself, her work, onto my living canvas. Loved it all. Spiritus is an experience, a great experience. Mike & Kat "got it going on" and should help experienced and/or newbies who wants style and soul built into their passion for a tattoo. Last week I was studying in a café, and when I stepped out I saw a massage and facials place next door. I immediately decided to try it out. I was lucky enough to find an appointment within two days and on a Saturday too! First of all, the location is good and easy to find. It is on high street, so you can get there easily by bus # 2. For someone who prefers to drive, there is a parking area behind the building. Second, the place is so quiet, smells nice and is well-decorated. The light is just perfect and the music is just right! Third, Rosemary is well prepared for her clients, so professional, and enjoys her work. There is a huge different between professionals and amateurs and there is absolutely a big different between someone who enjoys working and someone who does it ONLY to get paid! This is something I've noticed -- Some people are just tired and want to get rid of their work to have some free time for their selves. But in this place with Rosemary, no one will experience these rush feelings. I felt she was enjoying her time even more than I was! She didn't once look at her watch or rush me! Rather, she forgot herself and was immersed in her work! So in my case, instead of finishing at 3:25 she was done at 3:40 pm at the same price! She is relaxed, laid back and nice. Fourth, usually facials are only about the face treatment, but in this place one gets a massage on the shoulders, neck, hands and feet. Your skin and your body will thank you for this visit! I am a student who has no time to review every place I visit, but today I felt it was very wrong and selfish to keep this experience and enjoyment only for myself!
