Meet the Business Owner: Angelica E.
Angelica Eke was inspired to start Tatou Uma Polynesian Dance as a way to teach her own children about her culture. Her desire was to be able to teach the arts of the Polynesian cultures and at first it started off as a small fun show group. Now, with the support of Kalakeke PIDC and the ministry of Aloha Ke Akuah halau, the group is training to become competitive dancers. Angelica is dedicated to the continuation of the Polynesian cultures and sharing them with her community. She constantly states that she is, "always a student, always learning." Angelica has been dancing at the ripe age of 8 years old and learned the different techniques from aunts, cousins, and credits her mother most importantly. Tatou Uma are Samoan words that mean, "All of Us," and the vision for our group is that no matter who you are, what race, you can dance with us. We want you to share our dances, as well as culture, with you and all who are willing to embrace the Polynesian cultures." - Angelica E.
