I wasn't a fan of the cocktail flight because it was a bit foamy, but I had better luck with the food. Had a steak special that was reasonably priced and cooked well with a side of broccolini. Enjoyed a salad to start off my meal that was light and fresh. I enjoyed the decor of the establishment with a fun bar area and you could watch the food being prepared. We started off with one waitress and finished our dining experience with a different waitress who was in training but she was very sweet. Overall enjoyable dining experience.

When it arrived I thought 'hmm shrimp is not as big as I'd have thought' but then I tasted it and the sauce, shrimp, bread and veggies together were one of the best shrimp dishes I've ever had. I even saved the left over sauce (had it put in a ramekin) and put it on my steak. It was that good. My wife got the pork chops special and it was good too but the beans that were served with it were spectacular. Beans??? I didn't know they could be spectacular. Truffle chips (fries) were quality too. The home made black sheep sticky toffee pudding was also a must try. Lastly, Gosia, our waitress, was knowledgeable and took great care of us. When we are in York, we will be back.

Very popular spot so we suggest to book a table before going. We have seen people being turned away…read morebecause there's no availability. Menu was great and I definitely recommended their mussels. They have a starter portion and a main portion, tbh it doesn't make a massive difference. If you want to try a few more things, get it as a starter and get something else for main. We are rather disappointed in the duck leg because the flavor was so uneven - some bites are great, some are too spiced.

I adore French food and when I saw there was a French restaurant in York that had good reviews and…read morefairly reasonable prices, I made a reservation for our first of four nights in town. We were seated quickly and had a nice table on the main floor. Our drink orders were taken post haste, a bottle of Les Vignerons - Carignan Syrah (£25.15) and a pineapple juice (£2.25), and delivered equally as fast. The male server arrived with an open bottle and started pouring, chug-a-lug-a-lug, no tasting, just sloppily emptying the bottle into my glass. It was tremendously unimpressive. Great start! We both ordered the three-course Set Menu (£25.95). For our entrees, I had the Moules Marinieres à la Creme (mussels in a wine, garlic, herb, and cream sauce) and my wife the Champignons a L'Ail (mushrooms in a garlic cream sauce). My mussels were plentiful for a starter and fresh, but I could barely taste the wine, garlic, or cream. The sauce was watery. My wife's mushrooms were very tasty. On to Les Plats Principaux ... Mine was the Steak Frites with Mushroom Sauce and my wife's the Tarte aux Champignons et Pont L'Eveque (mushroom tart with leeks and Pont L'Eveque cheese). My steak was tiny, four to five ounces max, and half of it was gristle, so I was able to swallow maybe three ounces of it. I told the server that the first bite was very tough, but I never saw her again until I had chewed and spat out half of the steak. The fries were hot and tasty and the mushroom sauce was good, but what a huge disappointment. My spouse enjoyed her tart, but I thought it was rather bland. For dessert, I asked for the Sèlection de Fromages Francais (French cheese board) and my lovely bride the Crème Brûlèe. My cheeses were very good, with three varieties and coming with a bit of lettuce and a few grapes as well as a small baguette. I left just enough wine in the bottle to savor one of my favorite things in life - cheese, bread, and wine. My wife's crème brûlèe was massive, the biggest I had ever seen, so she hit a triple while I had just s single - she hit 1.000 for the night while I hit a mere .333. Our server, Didi, was very sweet and felt terrible because I had not enjoyed my meal, so she offered to discount my meal. However, my journalistic integrity would not allow me to accept remuneration for my meal and we paid full fare - £91+ including tip. A couple of small things spoiled this meal and both were completely avoidable. A little more wine, garlic, and cream, a minuscule cost for the restaurant, would have brought the mussels to a five-star level. As far as the tiny, cheap cut of meat I received, I had no problem with the size had it been tender because bigger is not always better, just ask my friend's wife. Quality control in the kitchen was obviously lacking, hence my rating ... CombatCritic Gives Rustique 4 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

Again, a review for dealing with our large party of 12!…read more They sat us down and cheerfully gave us the menus and specials quickly, it was so hot but they quickly put the fans on and gave us a lot of bottles of water for the table, bringing out warm bread and pots of standard and garlic butter. I had the Yorkshire pudding for starter, and the lamb for main, everything came out at good times, and no one was left waiting much longer than the first to be served at any point. The sides were wonderful, all good size portions and amazing gravy. If I was being seriously picky, the only thing I would say was the meringue on the lemon meringue pie wasn't crispy on the top at all, but that's personal taste, and it still tasted amazing! Wonderful food, wonderful service, and the best part was, other smaller tables there had service just as fast and friendly and didn't suffer because of the large party, so they definitely know how to cope!!

Nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff were pleasant. My sausage started was good and well seasoned, portion size was very generous. My steak was cooked well however it was lacking seasoning and tasted a little bland, I did enjoy the mushrooms they serve it with and also the home style chips were nice. My partners pate was good, the chutney was a little sweet as an accompaniment but again the portion size was good. Her duck was cooked very well and had some good flavour to it. A little biased but some more Australian/ New Zealand wine on the menu would be great. I would definitely like to return and explore the menu some more!

Excellent food, nice setting, and friendly staff. We very much enjoyed the whole experience…read more The food is delicious and beautifully prepared. The beef cheek was unctuous, and the vegetable accompaniment has lovely notes of cinnamon and juniper in the slaw portion. The hunters stew was filling but not heavy, and well seasoned. The oscypek cheese starter is similar to halloumi, with a firm, salty chew that gets your tastebuds going. The beer selection covers the gamut of Polish beers, from light lagers to raisin-y bocks (Koźlak). There's a wide range of vodka cocktails we did not try, plus ciders and wines. And the truly house made desserts are worth saving room for. I usually pass on dessert, but the cheesecake (not sweet) and poppyseed cake were too much to resist -- and I'm glad we didn't. So filling we brought half back home. The staff was friendly, and our waitress was charming and helpful, and even helped me understand the variations of the gołabki cabbage rolls that my grandmother had called galumpkies. Turns out there are many versions (and names) of these stuffed rolls across Eastern Europe. Now I know! Definitely worth putting on your York agenda. It has a Mexican themed interior with a lively atmosphere spread over two levels. We ordered the Nachos Cowabunga sharer to start ,Nachos fully loaded with chilli beef ,chilli chicken ,cheese ,bacon bits, scallions and soured cream ,it was huge ,could easily do 4 people. For mains we had -Beef Buritto which came with guacamole, cream, black beans and rice and the Mexi Burger ,which was a 9oz burger covered in beef chilli served with curly fries salad and cowslaw. Both were very large portions and we struggled to finish them The food quality, service and lively atmosphere all added to a great experience, check it out.
