Tartan Lodge, the self-proclaimed "friendliest Hostel in Glasgow" was anything but friendly.
My friend and I went on a spontaneous adventure to Glasgow for the night, so we booked a stay at the Tartan Lodge, which was deemed a great stay for some reviewers. But seeing as this place wasn't on Yelp, I couldn't turn to my fellow Yelpers for reassurance. Well, future Tartan Lodgers, here I am, your savior, urging that you shall not pass!
My friend and I walked in around midnight, which we thought were fine because they had a 24 hour reception, but the man who greeted us was completely mental. He had this on this appalling, rude demeanor and we honestly felt like we were in danger. He was very cold and grumpy, didn't work with us when we said we had booked with the hostel through Hostelbookers. He said his terms and conditions were different from Hostelbookers and that they had nothing to do with the aforementioned company. Well, I pulled out the Hostelbookers terms and conditions, and read verbatim, that upon booking your stay, there is a contract between the bookers (us) and the hostel (tartan lodge); Hostelbookers is simply the middleman. This oaf of a man refused. And while my friend and I were there trying to figure out what to do, we wanted to continue our chat outside, to which he said, "Take all your belongings."
So there we are, two girls, left onto the street at 2am, in the middle of an unfamiliar city, with an incredibly rude Tartan Butthole glaring at us from the door. Thanks Tartan Lodge, for being the "friendliest" hostel in Glasgow. We will never come back here again. read more
