This transport network provides a great public transport system in Victoria, connecting Melbourne…read morewith regional victorian towns. The bus services are economical and provide a cheap and reliable service to many country towns, and even country towns in New South Wales which are situated no longer than an hour away from the New South Wales and Victoria borders. Bookings need to be made in advance, yet it is so easy to do. Back to economical. I travelled to Deniliquin during the Easter break earlier this year; of which took 4 hours from Melbourne on the V/Line coach, and all in all the total investment was only $22.40 return. The service was packed going up there; however there was an abundance of seats available coming back home to Melbourne. The V/Line train service is also fantastic, and the only way to travel is via first class. On some V/Line train services (not all) you have a choice of travelling via first class or economy. You would be foolish if you did not travel on the train via first class. For only an extra $6 per leg from Melbourne to Bendigo (2-hour journey) you have your own private carriage with less seats and no middle seats; extra legroom; seats that recline and have a meal tray. It all makes a lot of sense as economy gets crowded, where there are an abundance of first class seats available. The service is faultless, and the staff (including the train conductors) are friendly, especially on the trip from Melbourne to Bendigo and back.

While not a nervous passenger I have had bus trips that left me wondering if we would make it in one piece! Andrew was professional and his driving skills allowed me to settle back and enjoy the journey. Well done and thank you

Skybus is a convenient and reliable way to get from MEL to Southern Cross Station. It is quite…read morepricey at $18 one way but as a tourist visiting Melbourne the first time, I highly recommend this option. Just follow the signs and you will find the bus station and just get your ticket right from the booth. I would just get the one way as there is no money saved for a return ticket and the chances of losing your ticket might mean your need to pay another $18 to get back! The ride was fast and smooth. I did not use the free hotel transfer which is included in the fare as I was just staying at an Airbnb just across the Station. If you have more than 2 people, maybe taking a taxi directly to your hotel is a better choice.

If you're thinking of leaving the airport, SkyBus is a great option. Since I used their services…read morefor a long layover, my review will mostly focus on that. It cost around 36 AUD for a roundtrip bus ride. The bus takes you from the Melbourne airport to Southern Cross station. The ride takes about 10-15 minutes each way depending on traffic. From there you can walk down the road and hop on a tram to the city center. Pro tip for international travelers: the tram within the city center is FREE! Wifi is included with your purchase and you can use it while riding the bus. Overall a positive experience. The cost of the ride is pricey, but definitely beats waiting around at the airport during a long layover.

Caught the Bluebird shuttle bus on 22 February 2015 from Tullamarine Airport to Melbourne CBD. The…read moreairport ticketing clerk (not employed by Bluebird) did not inform Bluebird to pick me up, so I waited an hour before calling to see what had happened. The staff member on the phone apologised and quickly arranged for a shuttle bus to pick me up and arrived within 10 minutes. The driver was also courteous and provided me with a complimentary voucher for when I next go to the airport. Despite the issues I encountered, there was no fault on Bluebird's part, so I would recommend them to others. The shuttle bus was also clean and comfortable.

I waited an hour for my shuttle to come and every time I called customer service they estimated the time that it would be there very wrong. They said 15 minutes and then 20 went by and this happened three times. I have a lacrosse game two hours after my landing and assumed I would make it but I no longer will be able to play in it because I waited so long for my shuttle. I will never be using Bluebird Airport Pickup again and am very disappointed and annoyed. This is absolutely ridiculous and I am disappointed that I even have to pay for such service. I usually never post bad reviews or send annoyed emails but I honestly can't believe this. If I hadn't waited so long already I would have gotten home another way. They are unreliable. Do not use.
