We had some friends bring us here, and like I have stated before "there are lots of Mexican food restaurants here!" Therefore you really gotta be on your A game if you want repeat business. Lots of other restaurants get by because there's no competition, but with Mexican it's just not the case. By far our favorite restaurant in the area. Taco Tuesday is excellent. There is great variety on the menu. Everything I have tried has been good to date, and some items are exceptional, specifically the street tacos, seafood related items, and fajitas. We love the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and sitting out on the patio when the weather is right for it. Note, this is one of the only places in this area to sit outside. I came here with two friends and it basically spiraled downhill from the start. Let's do the positives first though: 1) the food looked good... I've heard people rave about this place for years. Over and over I've heard about how this place is the "must go" for Mexican food. Let me clarify that I believe there are two types of Mexican food. "Real" Mexican food and "fast food" version of Mexican. Keep in mind, just because they bring it out to you instead of serving it through a drive-thru window doesn't make it "real". Here's how you can tell, if they tell you "Careful, the plate is hot", you're eating fast food Mexican. Why is the plate hot? Oh, you must have just microwaved pre-made food. Thanks. Another way to check if it's real or fast food, look at the menu. Do you see a dish called "Speedy Gonzales"? If you do, then it's fast food. The final way you can tell, if they have a menu it can go either way. However, if a little, old Mexican woman looks you up and down, purses her lips, and then tells you what she is going to cook for you, then you're in the right place for real Mexican food. Happy Hour here is 4-8 and they have $3 margaritas, which is great! Though, they are $6 at other times. The only food I've had here is the Tony and Mary, one salmon taco and one shrimp taco. Both are highly seasoned with a chipotle sauce and they come with a large amount of mango salsa which is delicious! This dish is very good. Though, it is really small and comes with no sides for $10. The huevos and chorizo are delicious! They have plenty of veggies mixed in as well. The skillet potatoes are not that great, though. They don't taste like much, just smokey. read more

Only one time we went and they were short handed and service was very slow and neglectful, partially also because 2 huge groups were there. But we eat there pretty often, so we know their norm. We decided to stop here on our way back to Memphis from visiting Mt Magazine since it's on our way home and we both love Mexican food. This is a Mom and Pop place located in a relatively small town. We started off by ordering the guacamole as a starter. The menu says guacamole/guacamole dip. We ordered the guacamole dip hoping it was a creamy dip. It was just mashed up guacamole with a hint of lime and a side of diced tomatoes. I ordered the steak tacos. The steak had more fat than I wanted and the green verde that it came with was nothing special. The beans and rice were good. I wouldn't order the steak tacos again. The wife ordered the flag chicken enchiladas. You get three enchiladas. One is smothered in green sauce, another is smothered in red sauce, and the third is smothered in sour cream sauce. She loved them and I tried them and would agree they are good. Overall the service was good and the place was getting packed when we left. The clientele consisted of a variety of people which is always a positive and a hint that the place is good! I'll be back if I'm in the area, I'll just order something different. read more

Dardanelle has been a tough place to find a great meal since the Catfish N closed. Tarascos is the best place in town. The Mexican food is tasty. The food is well-prepared and served quickly. We were passing through Dardanelle after a quick visit to Petit Jean State Park and chose this place based on other reviews. It was just OK. Service was friendly, chips were good, salsa fairly generic for my taste. I ordered fajitas, which were more like a taco and a beef enchilada -- maybe it was the wrong meal, but I verified and they told me it was correct. In my mind very average Mexican food. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FOOD AND MANAGEMENT!!! My friend and I went back to give Tarascos another try. I was hoping to have a good enjoyable meal. My friend order "Caldo de Rez" and I order "pozole". The condiment plate was well presented, but the bowl of pozole didn't look appetizing at all. I make pozole and I know how to cook and serve it. This look like a bowl of red water with pieces of meat at the bottom. I hadn't added any of the condiments when I dipped my spoon to taste the broth. It was horrible. Bland bland bland. No garlic, only cominos (cumin) and no salt at all. The broth was unappealing. Looked like lightly colored water. Pozole should have a rich broth. I called the waitress over and told her that I had tasted one spoonful of the broth and that was enough to tell me that I was not going to enjoy eating it. I asked her to take it away. She asked if I wanted to order something else. I was not sure if there would be anything that I could enjoy. I decided to just order cheese enchiladas. I figure that couldn't be too bad. In the meantime, the manager (I assume) came to ask me what was wrong with it. I told him that it was very bland with only the taste of cominos. I told him that it needed garlic and salt. I advised him that the salsa on the table needed garlic instead of the cominos. For some reason they put cominos in everything, which isn't bad but if you are going to use cominos, you use it along with garlic. He asked me if I was going to eat the pozole and I told him no. Why would I eat something that tasted bad. Then he said, "why did you order it?". That was rude and uncalled for. The plate of enchiladas were brought out and I ate the enchiladas and tried the beans and rice. Yuk, once again....cominos in the beans and in the rice. Again the cominos in rice would gave been fine if the garlic had been added also. Cominos is an awesome spice to use, IF it is use correctly. When we finished I paid for my food and left a good tip. Once again, the manager was rude in the way he carried himself. My friend is not one that likes a lot of spices, but she even said the "Caldo de Rez" that she got was bland. Since it had veggies and she had already added all her condiments, she went ahead and ate it. It's not hard to figure out how they assemble these bowls of soup. I want to find a Mexican restaurant in Arkansas that really has authentic mexican food. Tarascos tries, but unfortunately doesn't succeed. I love this place. I have only been living in Arkansas for about 6 months and I think I have been here at least four times! Their great customer service is consistent. Food is always fresh and great tasting. The decor is authentic mexican and you can hear spanish music playing in the background while you eat. If you're not sure of what to order, don't feel embarrassed because they don't mind. They enjoy serving to people of all kind and will take the time to explain their menu items. We just found this place and decided to try it on our "date night". It was easy to find in old down town Dardenelle. We were quickly seated. We ordered the Presidente Margarita and it was disappointing. I ordered the chicken Taco and my wife ordered the chicken chimichanga. They were superb. Freshly prepared and hot. Not the usual fare.
