This time there were about 10 people waiting and I finally decided it was worth it... and it absolutely was. The tacos were incredible, the service was fast, and they bring out 5-6 different sauces so you can try different flavors with everything. I sat outside, which made the experience even better great people-watching, amazing energy, and everyone walking by looked effortlessly stylish. Mexico City really is such a trendy, vibrant city. Honestly, I still think about these tacos. I could close my eyes and dream about this place.

Full disclaimer: these are my first tacos in Mexico City. The trumpo was really good!! Highly recommend! The res was good too, but not super standout. The chicharron itself was really good, but I don't know if I love it in a taco. The trumpo with the pineapple really stole the show. It's nice that the 3 tacos come with some potatoes. The potatoes were good! It seemed smashed then fried. Can't go wrong with frying potatoes. Food came out fast! It seems like this place can get super packed and busy, which I would think is a good sign!

The torta is absolutely legendary. A fluffy bolillo roll drenched in juicy, slow-roasted pork, tangy pickled onions, and a salsa that comes in swinging with just the right heat. That salsa alone could clear your sins. It's spicy, vinegary, addictive. I was sweating and smiling like a maniac. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall in Polanco. Cash only, plastic stools, no fanfare. You order at the counter and eat fast because there's almost always a line of locals and tourists in the know. And they serve one thing: cochinita. You can get it in taco form, on a panucho, or in the god-tier torta. Honestly, get all three and thank yourself later. The meat is fall-apart tender and deeply marinated, full of citrus and achiote. The panucho, with that crispy bean-stuffed tortilla base, is underrated perfection. Everything is messy, hot, and dripping with flavor in the best way. El Turix is the kind of place that reminds you why street-style food is unmatched. No hype, no gimmicks, just absolute fire. A must every time I'm in the city.

Then, allow the friendly staff to bring as many items from the menu as you can handle. Come with a group so you can share. An absolute must is the whole fish done à la Contramar, one side of the split fish coated in a punchy parsley sauce and the other in a red adobo rub. Served with flour tortillas (which are refillable) and black bean dip, you'll be instructed how to compose perfect bites. Then, choose your own adventure! We also had both the 4 piece each shrimp tostadas and tuna tostadas. Radically different so getting both doesn't duplicate. The pasta (spaghettini) with clams was buttery and garlicky and the pasta was surprisingly not overcooked. Biggest surprise was the grilled soft shell crabs (with corn tortillas). They came pre cut then reassembled so it was easy to pick them up and pop them in your mouth. The grill flavor was fantastic and we were all impressed. We finished with a slice of coconut cake which was like a caramel coated macaroon. Perfect! Large wine list by the glass and bottle, many cocktails, sangria and beer to choose from. Definitely a place to visit when in Mexico City. Sorry for the lack of photos-- we forgot because we dove into each dish (we were hungry and they looked so good)! Got one good one though...

For its notoriety I expected a more grand storefront but it was just a standard food stall. You line up to order and pay and then they give you your food. You can take your food to go or grab one of the few tables next to the shop. The unique thing about this taqueria is that they cook their meats in slabs and place them on the tortillas as-is. They don't chop up your meat into dices and they don't have the typical taco proteins you'd expect either. We ordered most of the meats: steak ($58 MXN), rib ($88), filet ($77), and chop ($88). My favorites were the steak and chop. The rib was a little tough. All the meats tasted better with salt and I liked the green salsa on top. These weren't the best tacos I've ever had but they were good. While its Michelin star meant that I had to try it, I probably wouldn't go back.

I was perusing Yelp trying to find a good Tres Leches, through my research I landed on this spot. This is a large restaurant, plus it was after 10pm when we arrived (they close really late), so we were sat and greeted pretty immediately. We ordered a chicken taco, steak taco, al pastor and a couple more, all the tacos we got were quite good and flavorful. The style of tacos was different than what we're used to as it was literally flat pieces of piled up meat on a tortilla with nothing else. The Tres Leches was just okay to me, there was something in it I didn't like, but my brother enjoyed it. Service was great! Very attentive, fast and friendly. Here's the issue...I got food poisoning as a result of something I ate here. With that said, I could not give this spot more than three stars, however like I said the food and service were two thumbs up, but getting sick was equally two thumbs down.
