We order pan de dulce for the table and we got 2 conchas, soft and warm just made. A chocolate roll and a fig and nata pastry along with coffee for the table. We order hievos rancheros with the red sauce. Huevos revueltos con chorizo, omelete con flor de calabaza y tamal de elote con crema. We also order a birria de res to share with the table. No music beyond the 2 guitar player going around table to table to see if you wanted a serenade. Skipped their offer 1st time around. Pretty quiet, bright and clean. Found that waiter spoke a little English and with our little Spanish got things done. Menus are bilingual Spanish-English. Ordered 4 lamb tacos, chile en nogada, cooked chicken in green sauce and a fish dish (forgot name, little spicy) then a coke, horchata and a pineapple drink. We got chips, cheese, sauce while waiting. Those were all nicely done but average. Dishes out maybe 10 min later. All presented well and hot. We shared each dish. Lamb tacos nicely done, little dry, but they give you some guacamole, a brown sauce, along with the green sauce and cheese with the tortilla chips. Nice, not fatty. Next was the chiles en nogada. First time tried this and really enjoyed, many flavors and nicely flavored beef. In general little on sweet side, so probably couldn't eat more than 1. The chicken in green sauce was a homey, comfort food. Nicely cooked chicken leg and thigh was an ever so slightly spicy sauce. Also came with tortilla wraps and Spanish riceLastly was the spicy baked fish. Done well, fell apart pretty easily, was spicy, but not too much. Had green beans on side done well, not too soft or hard, and Spanish rice. Drinks were all a hit. Coke is coke. Horchata and pineapple juice served in big mugs. Pineapple tastes freshly squeezed and horchata was a super solid example in every way. Oh almost forgot, later in the meal we figured out how to get the 2 guitar fellows to play for us. 2 songs for 300 peso, about 7min total. They did a good job with both the guitar and singing, was enjoyable to listen to them. Would stop back again if in area.

It's a chain and located in a small mall area off a pedestrian shopping walkway/ mall. Take the escalators all the way to the top. The flautas were super huge, meaty, and ultra crunchy. The sheet of quesillo on top was a nice added delight. The pozole came with a side of tostados and a whole lime with a squeezer. The lime is absolutely required and adds to the layers of simple richness to the pozole topped with crunchy cabbage bits, radishes, and onions. The waiter definitely pressured us into get chips and guacamole, but the unexpected add-on was very reasonably priced and refreshing. Service was super quick and prompt. Another thing this city has is very inexpensive spots you can eat, like pop ups or stands that serve such high quality food at very cheap prices. The third thing I found about this city is where this restaurant fits in-They have restaurants that are historic, that opened over 100 years ago-Cafe de Tacuba fits in that category, having opened in 1912. This restaurant is located in Centro Historico-just a few blocks from Zocalo. Its location is a very busy touristy part of Mexico City. When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait, but once we walked in it was obvious why as it was truly a work of art in there. The walls were adorned with amazing paintings and murals and interior designs elements that transported you back to Mexico in the 1950s and earlier. It was gorgeous. I don't want to call it a fancy place with all the stigma that sometimes represents but it was a fancy place without all the stuffiness of a fancy place. It was a very warm and welcoming place to dine at. There was a lady walking around with a platter full of conchas and churros that one could indulge in while waiting their main meal. I had to get a churro-it was so delicious. We also got chicken tortilla soup-it was so rich and tasty with the perfect blend of Mexican seasonings. I had a pretty good cafe con leche as well-you could really taste the high quality coffee beans they use in their coffees compared to what I'd been getting all trip in the streets. Now when you visit this restaurant and you could only try one dish-that dish begins and ends with Enchiladas Tacuba(355 pesos/$20.35) That's what I got and it was awesome. Its basically a chicken enchilada dish with a creamy spinach based sauce topped with cheese-flavor bomb to the fullest. 9.5/10 Item I wouldn't clarify this as an inexpensive meal compared to other places we visited in Mexico City, but I would call this place an incredible dining experience where one can just feel the importance of the building one is having this meal. Heck Diego Rivera had his wedding reception here in 1922. I for sure would recommend anyone who has the pleasure of visiting Mexico City, must add Cafe de Tacuba to their itinerary-it's such a rich experience.

The portion was too large for me and could be shared. My husband enjoyed his dish and found the seasoning to be well balanced, not overpowering. Coffee was good, if not quite hot enough. Testal was a great culinary stop on our trip to sample straightforward, traditional Mexican comfort…read morefood. The menu balances classic staples with lesser-known regional specialties, most notably their Enchiladas Agustinas. Originating as a 19th-century spinoff of Chile en Nogada, the Enchiladas Agustinas features tortillas rolled around a savory-sweet picadillo filling of minced meat and orchard fruits. Testal smothers them in a rich, deeply stewed Mole Poblano rather than the usual walnut cream sauce, finishing the plate with a bright scatter of pomegranate seeds. The contrast between the dark, complex mole and the pop of fruit once again showcases Mexico's mastery of marrying sweet and savory profiles. We also tried the sopa fideo, a toasted vermicelli-style soup served in a tomato broth. It was a comforting, classic starter, though its flavor profile was fairly straightforward and homey. We also ordered street-style tacos topped with roasted pineapple, which brought another nice balance of charred acidity and sweetness to the meat. Each dish was well-executed and worthy of appreciation, even if it didn't quite leave me blown away or craving an immediate return. Overall, Testal is a solid, reliable option if you're looking for an unpretentious experience rooted in authentic regional traditions.

I was ready to chow down a ton of things. I honestly picked Los Bisquets because even in mid/late afternoon, the place was still filled and bustling with locals. Although I felt like as a solo diner, I should grab a seat at a bar...but...I wanted a proper table to sit/relax and spreaded out more comfortably, so I chose to sit at a small dining table...and never got any dirty look from the staff there or anything! I was so hungry that I just pointed to whatever was on the menu/leaflet presented on a small poster on the table. And..I was glad I picked that! Looking back, I think it was a fried longanisa set or something. The food was good and hit my spot for sure. The set had chips as appetizers (I think you get them anyways regardless of what you order), soup and a nice/large set of the food. I liked that the fried longanisa was fresh off the stove and not soggy at all. It was so satisfying eating that with salad/rice....and the soup! Overall, I liked what I got! The only thing was..it was a lil mild. I wish I had gotten something with more spice/interesting taste to it. However, especially for that day...I really enjoyed the food and I thought I picked the right spot to rest my feet and eat!
