I had never heard of a Marquesita before until we came upon the food cart located in the Parque de…read morelas Palapas. We were looking to try out some traditional desserts that we had never experienced before. Of the many food carts parked side by side, this one seemed to attract our attention the most. We stood by and watched how the Marquesita is made. Batter is added to a crepe pan and cooked made to order. A variety of fillings were available to choose from, but we asked for their most popular food item. Apparently shredded cheese and nutella is a favorite choice of the locals. Joe K and I shared this unusual dessert combo, and the blend was better than I expected. I wasn't quite sure at first if I would like cheese and chocolate together, but it turned out pretty tasty after all. It was a nice ending to our all day food truck food binge at the park!

So, being the first English language reviewer on the page, let me explain what this is. Marquesitas are pastries, to go pastries to be exact, rolled into some sort of a fried crispy tortilla, with cheese and a dash of nutella. Granted, there are a few variations, but the one I got appeared to be the most common. The flavor combo is amazing and it's a true street food dessert that you cannot miss while traveling! The truck stays open late, I came close to 11pm. Sometimes the most unexpected combinations get you, so you if you are a mildly adventurous eater, make sure to give this a try!

They treated us like royalty. The service was amazing and the chef even came out to chat with us. Coffee was spectacular and my husband asked for a recommendation on the most traditional breakfast he could get there and he loved it as it had chicaronnes in there along with tons of flavor. I had the waffle eggs and bacon and I enjoyed how thin the bacon was cut because it actually cooked up nice and crisp. atmosphere is airy and modern and the baked goods all looked spectacular however I just had no room to sample any.

I got the chocolate dome, which was a chocolate and vanilla moose in a dome of dark chocolate. It was really good. I also tried the red velvet cake, brownies, and cherry macaroons which were all tasty. I will say, I've never really liked macaroons but these were something I would choose to get again. None of us ordered it, but there was a really cool French press coffee that they made at the table (boiled water over stereo up into another glass dome that was connected to it, then turned off the heat and the coffee filtered down). Someone at the next table ordered it so we were able to watch. It was so neat. Definitely order that if you're a coffee person.
