Gel mani lasted 15 days until I soaked it off only because the growth was showing. Apart from that, one tiny chip day 9 or 10, zero peeling, almost no wear on the tips (and I chose a dark color!). I got loads of compliments on my nails. Mani itself was relaxing and pampering. Lovely hand massage, gentle but thorough cuticle care. Minx pedi lasted about the same but I removed it even though it still held up in great condition. They offer several options depending on how much time you have and how much pampering you'd like. If you have some time and the pounds to spare, you absolutely will get what you pay for here. Staff was super friendly and attentive. I definitely look forward to returning!

But unfortunately for me I was 'blessed' with skin that makes Snow White look tanned and so before a dress-wearing occasion I have been known to get a little help. The salon was very clean when my friend and I walked in, and it smelled really nice although it was absolutely BOILING. It was as if they were trying to kid your brain into thinking that you were in fact on holiday, so that'd you'd tan faster. All it did was make me irritated and grumpy. That lost this place it's first star. The second I took off because of the staff. When we walked in there were two girls behind the counter and another girl draped over the counter chatting to them. They stopped taling abruptly when we walked in, but all three of them stared us up and down disapprovingly, without even trying to be subtle, before looking at eachother with a puzzled expression on their faces. In short, if you're a radioactive ahde of neon rom using sunbeds too much, get yourself to this place and you'll fit right. If not, you'll be gawped at like a circus freak.

Because trained therapists spray you, there is absolutely no chance of you getting the awful streaks and patches which so frequently occur with fake tans. The staff are very friendly, inviting and knowledge about the various tanning options available to the customers. There is also a beauty salon attached to The Tan Stand which offers a range of therapies such as manicures, eyebrow shaping and waxing, which is also extremely well priced - about £5-8. There is no need to make an appointment and I frequently walked in and been served immediately. It would be difficult to find a cheaper tanning and beauty salon in Edinburgh.

I've probably had hundreds of facials in many cities round the world, including other Guinot salons and the flagship Guinot salon in London - honestly none have ever been as good as Lisa. SBL is owned and operated by Iram - who is great! So great in fact, I go about twice a month! (Iram used to work for a very popular/well known West End beauty boutique but decided to open her own business.) I regularly get my eyebrows threaded, manicures (shellac), and waxing done by Iram. For waxing (especially intimate waxing) - Iram is the best. She is so quick, makes it pain free, and is a perfectionist. She is also really keen to help you get into a routine to prevent any ingrown hairs and provides really good info on what to do at home and between treatments. My shallac manicures last at least two weeks and they rarely chip. (I usually get bored with the colour and get my manicure removed because my nails grow quickly!) I have been getting my eyebrows threaded for about 10 years and am super picky. Iram knows what is good for your face and adjusts the threading treatment appropriately. Iram also specialises in other beauty treatments, such as: eyelash extensions, eyelash tinting, make up application and spray on tans. One of things I really like is that SBL is text you receive a text a day before your treatment, which is a great reminder. I highly recommend Iram! (Just hope she doesn't get too busy now!)

I'm not going to tell you what I needed to have waxed, suffice to say the plight of the great Mediterranean blood hits me quite hard and I like to keep up appearances that I am not, in fact, a woman of the bush or an unkempt hippie. So, I went a-hunting for a wax. Did I want threading? No, but found about a hundred places to do that. Did I want plucking? No, but I found a weird cheap place that did that. But I found PURE and they were a beautiful little place that felt all comfy, relaxing and spa-like. But for a 20 minute session inside a locked room, these bells and whistles mean very little. Soothing music gets overshadowed by the pain, so frankly it fell on dead - eyes? I paid 35 dollars (20 quid). For shame! (did I use this right British people?). Yea, I know. There are little Vietnamese ladies in Boston screaming at me from overseas - I'll do it for your for 1/4 that price. But I was beastly, and my uni-brow was making a comeback and I can't have that. But the hair (was) gone, so not too many complaints. She did it, well and quick, so if you like spending 20 pounds on something that should be 8 - TOPS... This place is for you, you freak.
