My first time I had gone into this salon, I had an appointment with Shelby Flores (I believe there are two Shelby's at this location so I hope it is okay I share the last name). I was so impressed with how kind and accommodating she was. She offered me a refreshment, told me to relax and enjoy being pampered. I honestly felt like royalty!! I had shared with her multiple ideas of how I would like my hair layered and colored, and my hair turned out identical (if not better...) to the photos I shared. Throughout the whole process, she over communicated what she was doing and asked questions to ensure that the end result turned out exactly how I wanted it. I appreciated that she was so precise and intentional with every detail of my hair. I have naturally brown hair and wanted to add in just a touch of highlights, without jeopardizing my natural color. She also made sure to add just enough layers to add more volume to my hair and I couldn't have asked for a more voluminous look. I went in there with so many split ends and dry, frizzy looking hair... And I walked out feeling like Anne Hathaway after her Princess Diaries makeover!! The texture of my hair was so much softer and smoother (not sure if the conditioner she used on my hair had some magical powers, but it sure felt like it). I highly recommend her! The salon has implemented strict restrictions for reopening, and it was just us two at the salon when I went in for my appointment. The whole process felt safe. I visited the salon last week for an afternoon appointment with Kirsten. I sat down waiting to be greeted but no one came to check on me upon my arrival. This was okay with me as I came in about 20 minutes early. Closer to my appointment time, I was introduced to Kirsten and she asked me what I was going for. I specifically said, "I want long layers with the shortest layer starting from my collarbone and I want to take about 3-4 inches off". She took me to the back to get my hair washed. I immediately saw a bunch of girls hanging out in what seemed to be their break room? I felt uncomfortable laying down while these girls were eating and laughing right in front of me (there were also random girls just curling/straightening their hair all around the salon). Shortly after getting my hair washed, I was taken back to her station. She started by cutting it to the length of my liking and get this... She felt comfortable enough to grab a chair for herself and cut my hair while sitting down. After cutting my hair to my desired length, she blowdried my hair and told me that she will put the layers in after drying and styling it... Which I thought was super weird. I don't do hair professionally but I thought you were supposed to dry them after cutting? Anyway, I didn't want to question her work. But she literally took her scissors and ran it through my hair and by some miracle, she was done cutting my hair in less than 30 minutes. Now, this was the first time I got a haircut in over a year... I was surprised to see that she was finished so fast. I came home and realized she messed my hair up. I called the salon telling them that I am not pleased with the end product. The gentleman explained to me that she will give me a call. When she gave me a call, she had a sarcastic attitude and did not sound apologetic at all. If anything, she argued with me saying that she did in fact put layers in my hair. She offered to fix my hair but after encountering her laziness at the store and her rudeness over the phone, I declined and told her that I will be seeking another haircut at a different salon. I came here because of all of the AMAZING reviews and I couldn't get to my usual stylist. Didn't turn out to be an amazing experience for me :( I'll keep this short and to the point. Location is kind of a pain with regards to parking. Not really their fault, but FYI arrive to Los Gatos early to find parking somewhere if your appointment is during peak hours. My appointment was mid-afternoon on a weekday. It was very crowded. I think they squeezed me in between other appointments because I was done in under 30 minutes for a consult, wash, short cut, style and blow dry and was sorta rushed in and out while she was distracted by a myriad of things during my cut. Yeah, stylists have distractions but I think between being distracted and rushing me, she messed up my hair. When I saw the finished result, one side looked a little longer than the other but I assumed it was from the styling. Nope. She cut one side of my hair one inch shorter than the other. Now I have to take extra time to fix my hair to hide the painfully obvious difference in length. It's embarrassing, and I don't want to go back to have her fix it. She definitely wasn't new out of beauty school and should have gotten my easy cut right. Even Fantastic Sam's doesn't screw up like this. I am SO unhappy and now need to get it fixed sooner than I would have needed a cut. NEVER GOING BACK! read more

Stefanie is seriously a hair magician! My hair has seriously been to hell and back, and somehow she took my reddish, brownish, weird looking locks and made them beautiful. I really wanted to go lighter, so Stefanie worked with me to find a color that was not only flattering, but also gradually lightened my hair so it wouldn't turn into hay. My hair has so much dimension now, and I get compliments all the time! I've sent a few friends to her, and they've all loved their results too. I'm usually a DIY kind of girl, but that wasn't working out for me anymore, and I'll never go back to that! Her pricing is also extremely reasonable, so you wont spend an arm and a leg getting your hair done. The salon itself is really cute, and the location is super nice! She stacks 3 clients at a time, so that a color appointment takes far longer than it should. Her assistant does all the work. He mixes and applies the color, washes then dries the hair. Sarah shows up to cut, gossip about her employees & tell you what a great job she did. Then she flits away to do the routine on another person. All of that is only IF she bothers to show up for work. My appt was at 12:00 with Theresa at Tangles Hair Salon in Los Gatos- The hairdresser was not there and I had to wait for her. I made an appt to get my hair colored. When she finally showed up she said she did not have time to do the color I wanted. She cut my hair and it is the worse haircut - very very old fashioned. One side is longer than the other. She definitely did not know how to cut hair. Then after she colored my hair the roots were orange. She had to redo it. Then she was supposed to match the color that was already on my hair and because she didn;t know what she was doing the color was wrong. It was 3:30 so for a simple root touch up it took over 3 1/2 hours. I walked out with an extremely old fashioned hair cut. When I called the salon and asked how much was a touch up and cut I was told 80.00 for touch up and 70.00 for hair cut. Theresa wanted 270.00 for orange hair. read more

My review is for a cut and balayage by Kara Rigo. I just moved back to the Bay Area and desperately needed find *my* hairstylist. My hair was already balayaged and was just fading out. I have dark, coarse, and thick Asian hair. Through experience, I can't say everyone knows how to handle that type of hair. I showed her a few pictures of what I wanted and she told me that it would take a few rounds before it would be just how I wanted but she was going to make sure I walked out close to my picture. Three and a half hours later, it came out absolutely perfect. I'll be seeing her in a few weeks to get it toned out, but she fixed my brassy balayage and gave it a beautifully blended ashy color. I wanted a very straightforward cut - trim out about an inch of all the dead ends, fix and give me softer layers. Surprisingly enough, that is hard for many stylists to get right with my hair. Kara was very cautious and took her time to make sure she wasn't doing anything drastic. She killed it and will be my go-to from now on. Thanks, Kara! read more

My entire first time experience at Tangles was amazing. The location was very easy to locate, I found parking almost instantly. Their staff were friendly and inviting. Kaycee my stylist was a breath of fresh air. She was very thorough in explaining to me what we needed to work on. She corrected my color (got rid of the orange) and added lowlights. I'm updating my review to reflect the fact that the salon seems to have a lot of turnover with hair dressers. After my third stylist there left the salon, I decided to move on. By far the worst experience I've ever had in my life. I came in to get my hair highlighted with Teresa, and asked her to use the L'Oréal platinum bleach as I have been using and loving that color for over 10 years, she said she had it and that she will use it. The first time she highlighted my hair, I came out with yellow/orange roots and the remaining sections of the strands were another color. I was unhappy and told her that it bothered me because it was extremely obvious. She said that she would fix it. I came back today after waiting over 7 weeks because I did not want my hair to break. Today I asked her to use the L'Oréal platinum again because something was odd about the previous color that was put in my hair. She said she would use it and she went to mix the color. She started applying it and then said she was going back to mix another color. I asked her why, she said because she was using another bleach. I asked her if she would use the bleach that I had wanted because the blonde is coming out different and it looked like I had two colors. She got upset and pulled out the sheets from my hair and started washing my hair, left me in tears and left my hair wet. I got in the car to see the orange again all over my roots in the back. To make matters worst, when I had asked to speak to a manager, another lady that was supposedly the "previous" salon owner came up to me and started saying oh the bleaches are all the same, and asked me to be quiet as there are other client's. I think she is forgetting that I'm a customer too and that if they're the same bleach as she is claiming then why not just use the one that I had requested and agreed to and was paying for, rather than try to hush me up and not make a scene because of the shadiness and the unprofessionalism and the rudeness? I think this is the exact reason why she is a "previous" owner and not a current owner because no owner will permit this behavior. She put bleach and color on my hair and washed it off 20 minutes in to the service, and the damage is evident in my hair as you can see in the pictures. read more

I bought a groupon a few months back for Nikkis skin care with tangles( lord knows why, since i have started hating that model as well and their customer service). I called today to make an appointment. Of course there is no appointment until august. So i talk about the fact that my groupon expires in july. Sorry we cannot honor it. But hey, wait the amount you paid for is still valid. When i explained to the lady that the fact that you guys don't have an appointment is your problem , i dont want to lose my discount over that, you should accommodate me or honor the discount. Sorry, take it up with groupon. will not recommend a business that shoos its potential customers away. Just way too many Salons out there. read more

I was desperate and had some time to myself to get my hair done...I was really happy that they were able to take me in as a "walk-in" because the place has good reviews and I wanted a good trim and color. My stylist was Brandy and she was friendly and cut my hair the way I wanted but I was not happy with the color. She got it as dark as I wanted...which I was satisfied with but...it was done very sloppy. The reason why I pay big bucks at a foofy salon is to get pampered and to leave without having to wash my hair for at least two days to enjoy the "do." I have access to salon grade hair color and could easily do it myself at home but choose not to because I when I do it's messy and sloppy. My experience at Tangles with regards to my color was the same...messy and sloppy...as if I did it at home. Granted the color was dark and it can get on the skin...but in this case it was really bad. The next day I had an event to attend and it looked like I had a widow's peak from the black and I couldn't put my hair up either because I had color on my neck and sideburns. I get my color done all the time at other up-scale salons and I haven't had this happen to me. I called the salon to ask what I can do and that I was not happy with the outcome and the manager was on vacation. A week later when she came back from vacation she called me back and left a voicemail and suggested for me to put windex on my skin to remove the color. I am sorry but suggesting to put window cleaner on my forehead is not the solution and then she went on to say that the stylists are independent and that she cannot do anything about the situation. Those independent stylists represent YOUR salon...so you should do everything your power to maintain clientele and offer the best service ever. I will not return. read more

The new and improved tangles salon in Los Gatos!! Welcome back!! The original owner of the tangles we all knew as the mecca of hair in Los Gatos has opened a smaller and friendlier version right down the street. Dog friendly and newly inhabited they are going to have a manicurist and estitician to cover all of the bases. Kara is my girl, I follow her all over Los Gatos and she never disappoints! It had been well over a year and a couple boxes of Feria since I had seen her last and tracked her down for a new wedding do. She got my hair back into the hot colors it used to be and even fixed my SuperCuts reject haircut!! If you want crazy color, natural color, a perfect cut, or even extensions look her up!! This salon has a great vibe and nothing catty anywhere in sight. The owner actually works along side the rest of the girls instead of standing and collecting your money at the door like the old meatmarket that the original tangles demised to be. Bottom line, you want your hair to look hot either for an event or just to oogle at in the mirror? This is the place to be! and then you can hit up Icing on the Cake across the street ;) read more

I got a Living Social deal for a facial from Tangles and made an appointment with Niki. She was fantastic! I was having a lot of stress in my life, and my face was definitely showing it. She was very professional, found the areas that I needed work, and explained what she was doing the whole time. I even asked her some advice about a product that I was thinking about purchasing. The only reason that I am giving 4 stars and not 5 is that the salon was very noisy and it was distracting while I was trying to relax during the facial. The room that I was in was very quiet, but the hairstylists in the salon were yelling to each other over the sound of hairdryers, and it really took away from the experience. read more

If it weren't for a Groupon I purchased over a year and a half ago for Capricious Skin Care, I would probably still have a dull complexion and let's face it, I would be significantly hairier. I travel 54.8 miles down to Los Gatos from SF just to see her (yes, she is absolutely worth every single mile). Like most women, I've had quite a few estheticians over the past 10 years, and when you find someone like Nikki, distance is not a factor. She's an absolute gem! -- Professional, doesn't pressure you to buy products (which you probably should anyway, 'cause this girl will not do you wrong), and she actually listens (amazing stuff if you ask me, especially when you say things like "make me gorgeous, I have a date after this" and she doesn't puncture your skin to death... I won't name any names but this has happened to me with other estheticians at other locations on several other occasions). Beyond the superior quality of her work, she's the sweetest, least judgmental woman ever. She makes me laugh and puts me at such ease during our sessions. Seriously, she makes me forget about the pain of extractions or a Brazilian AND how downright depressing my love life can be all at the same time (it's not that depressing most of the time, mind you). If you ask me, that's a gift. It also helps that I consistently emerge from her care glowing like a sixteen year old in love. Swoon! I drive over an hour (and much longer in traffic) for appointments with Jamie Garland. When you find someone that just understands you and your hair, you will (and should!) go to any length! I've been seeing Jamie for almost a year now and she's transformed my hair's life and consequentially parts of my life! I never had a stylist that would take me as blonde as she has mostly out of fear for my hair's health or it washing my complexion out. With Jamie's guidance, I am very blonde and my hair has never felt healthier. Not to mention the lighter colors she paints on actually look more natural on me than my dark color and brighten up my skin even without makeup on. I've started doing tape-in extensions with Jamie as well and she is patient, educated, and a master at what she does. It's a long process but she's efficient and I'm never left feeling like I've spent all day in her chair. She has a great personality and I'm always comfortable.
