My wife and I contacted Tamarack a few years after buying a property on Georgetown Lake. We had an idea of a floorplan and Paul made some changes/improvements to it (we did not use an architect). I was not familiar with SIP construction, but love the finished product - a relatively high end home with top-notch finishes. From ground breaking to move in, the process was just a little over one year. Paul, Wendy and their team (John in particular) are wonderful to work with. They won't be the cheapest, but they will be fair and the finished product will be outstanding. Early on during construction I knew I had the right contractor when I watched how the subs reacted to Paul and and his team to instructions. There is a tremendous amount of respect and comfort there. Tamarack is the company that built our house and they have been great to work with. When we have some concerns come up with our house,, we usually consult with them for advice on who to call and they have done a few modifications for us since we moved in. We just had them put in a couple of skylights in our mudroom and laundry room. What a difference that has made!l. We don't have to turn a light on every time we walk into that space, except all night. It's wonderful. The workers were efficient and friendly and cleaned up after themselves very well. read more

I contacted Tamarack Construction when I realized I needed a one story house, with 36 inch doorways, a flat driveway and was thermally efficient. I wanted some of the attributes from my previous house, including am island sink, beautiful wood, with lots of efficient windows. I was unfamiliar with SIP houses, but once they walked me through the building process, I was so intrigued, I went the the SIP factory to see how my plans would be transferred to my custom panels. I was so impressed I moved forward with a construction contract. I love this house, it is super quiet, tight, stable and gorgeous with with custom wood cabinets, floors and trim. We used this business three times and the third time was not the charm. As Warren Buffet says, you can't make a good deal with bad people, they will always win. I wish I had this advice before doing any work with Tamarack Construction. The first flag is that their boiler plate contract leaves you with zero protection for their errors, poor schedule performance and workmanship issues. Secondly the up front monies should never be required since that gives them leverage over you in any dispute. Lastly, they require arbitration for disputes which is a clever way of hiding their spotty performance from public record. Our project was a simple kitchen first floor remodel of a home they originally built and therefore should have not been any surprise as to what they were getting into. The "professional" project manager that we paid dearly for generated four schedules in the first seven weeks and all were wrong within a week of each update. The contracted project duration was three months that languished for 5 months. The project manager failed to manage the subs, the work statement and sequencing of the trades. All of these factors contributed to a very stressful experience. The project manager's lack of knowledge on building framing created a structural issue of their making and Tamarack denied all responsibility. I was left to make the repair when they refused to honor the contract related to this building code defect. I had to hire a structural engineer in order for Paul Wilson to consider the need for repair. He neither acknowledged the engineers findings and refused to do the work unless I paid him in advance for the small outstanding balance Monthly progress draws had to be double checked for errors, over charging for the project manager time, unapproved material substitutions and failure to manage workmanship of the carpentry and drywall crews should have had the Wilsons's oversight. The Wilsons both started out as pleasant and kind however once issues were raised we were verbally accosted, threatened with a lein and constantly berated in emails concerning the quality issues we raised. The budgeting estimates were 30 percent off overall for an already generous budget. Project management fee was forecast for $13,000 and ended up at $28,000. No accountability of concessions on that overrun. Do not trust their estimates nor their ability to contain costs. Do your research because I uncovered six instances where clients took legal action against Tamarack for build quality issues. Other trades and inspectors had we later spoke with confirmed Tamarack's spotty performance. read more
