A hot spot on the 4th of July!!! we were able to find a perfect table on the dock to watch the boats and the boat parade. What a fun atmosphere. The food was definitely not very good. We had the brisket nachos, it was more like melted cheese on stale chips with a piece of brisket on top. Lucky for us the atmosphere and the service brought my review up to a solid three stars. We would definitely be back, we just would not have the nachos. read more

Country music plays at this dockside restaurant on White Bear Lake. It was our first time here to try their food and take in some views of the lake. Upon arriving for a first timer...I was confused on the process of getting a table and ordering food. There was no signage anywhere that said...please seat yourself and order at the bar. That would've helped tremendously. I had to ask someone to get some guidance. We originally chose a table in the sun since it was the only one available and waited for someone to clean one in the shade and moved there. They have the triangle sun shades above to shade you from the sun. Drinks - we ordered beers and for myself I ordered a skinny colada. 10/10 on the drink, it was refreshing and delish. Orders at the bar and brought back to our table. Food - I ordered the South of the Border rice bowl with chicken. 9/10 on that item. It was a little sparse on the chicken otherwise it was really good. Flavors were nice. Hubby ordered the pulled pork platter with a side of coleslaw. He was blown away by the bbq sauce which was provided on the table and said this Memphis style bbq is no joke...it's delish. He also wishes he had more meat on his platter. We'll be back to buy some BBQ sauce for sure. read more

Have been here a few times over the last couple summers. It is just a great place with an awesome vibe. After flying into town and not eating all day, we got the Key West Nachos.. They were amazing. The smoked meat was so good! We went back the next night and got a pulled pork sandwich. Again , very tasty since they smoke the meat on site. Very friendly owner/bartender. Cold beers and music.. What a cool place to hang out. We took the boat and tied up on their dock.. They close up when the snow flies, so don't wait. Cheers! read more

We did the "Sunday Bloody Mary & Breakfast Pontoon Tour". There were 8 of us in total. It was fabulous. One of my guests was a college exchange student from Germany. We had so much fun -- terrific breakfast, the drinks were fabulous. From the moment you arrive they really know how to make you feel welcome. The owners are just really lovely people. We had the Brisket Nachos which had fantastic flavor and staff was very friendly. My only disappointment was that they serve the nachos on paper!!! The entire bottom layer of the nachos is stuck and soaked up into the paper, so it's all wasted food. read more

How fun! We have been to CG hooks many times in the past and always wanted to rent a pontoon. We rented a 3 hour rental today and had such a blast!!! It was very easy to reserve and getting situated was a breeze. The dock workers were super friendly. We were off in no time and enjoyed the 3 hours in the water and the lily pad we rented from them. 3 hours went by way too fast so next time we will do a couple more. We loaded up our car and headed back for dinner and drinks. What an amazing day and we will be back next year to rent a pontoon again! I had a cocktail and we all had the pulled chicken quesadillas. My best friend and I rented a fishing boat here and loved fishing white bear. The staff was a little slow on opening up for people who want to get out on the lake but once we were out it was awesome. The website has different boats and prices and there is a grocery store next store if you need additional supplies. Staff is helpful and explains the use of the boats and the wall and structure are good places to fish! read more

What the hell has happened to this place? - Service sucks. The staff is totally unengaged. - Drinks are laughable. They "try" to do craft drinks but are amateurish at it. I suggest also bringing your own booze, my fiancé and I could not taste one bit of alcohol in our cocktails. Almost sent it back but someone else near us sent their drink back because it tasted horrible. - Food is delicious. Thank God they have the BBQ place to support them. - View is spectacular, but that's provided by Mother Earth. If they have new management, it's time to change it up and get someone in their that can run the place. White Bear deserves better. read more

Rented a pontoon boat. Clean. Very nice. Comfortable. Friendly staff. My only complaint is they hold your drivers license and credit card. After hours on the lake I forgot to pick my id and CC up. The dock boy did not remind me. We sat 5 feet from the bartender after our rental and had some drinks, she did not remind us. What benefit is holding someone's id when renting a $25,000 boat? It's a poor procedure they need to change. read more

This was rough and I hate writing this review, because they could be so much better. The location is perfect--right on the lake with a great breeze and perfect view. The food was pretty bad. We started with the nachos and while they came with tons of toppings--and that's a good thing--the chips were drowned underneath and we couldn't get a good bite because they became too soggy. We ended up using forks to finish the plate. All they have to do is add more chips and it'll be perfect. I ordered the Kansas City chicken sandwich, that should've been topped with Memphis slaw, but that was left off. And that sucked because the chicken was way overcooked and extremely dry--the slaw would've helped. To fight the dryness of the chicken, I used a ton of their house-made sauces. My date ordered the Memphis Pulled Pork sandwich, that was topped with slaw and, while it looked good, lacked flavor and was a letdown for her. The kids ordered grilled cheeses and they were just OK. Overall, I would definitely come here to drink--they have a good bloody Mary, but would not eat here unless there were some major changes. read more

How did I not know about this place!? Cutest spot ever on the lake! We stopped in for a quick lunch and were so impressed by the experience. The food was pretty good. My husband enjoyed his brisket sandwich. My kids got PB&J and I got the shredded chicken which was just ok (pretty fatty and not a ton of flavor). The coleslaw side was really good and the cornbread was in the shape of fish! The drinks were super yummy and sweet and we all agreed the whole ambiance reminded us of a place in FL that we love. My kids loved watching the boats coming in and out of the slips. They also have a pontoon that you can rent that we plan to take advantage of hopefully next summer. 5 stars because the experience is what you go there for. I will start by saying we are repeat customers and have been for the last several years. We have always loved Tally's and typically book every July 4 for the 8am time slot. This year, I had a medical emergency which left me hospitalized and unable to boat for the rest of the summer. The Tally's staff and management showed zero compassion and proceeded to charge me $250 for cancelling my rental - still over a week out. When the manager finally called me back, his tone was rude and defensive from the start. I was told that he already knew what happened, so I didn't need to tell him. That this is just their policy. I told him I was disappointed that when I communicated to the previous staffer that I almost died two nights ago while on a boat, his response was "that's unfortunate". Instead of the manager saying something like "I'm so sorry" I was told "don't act like we don't care about you" and "don't you understand where we're coming from?". He later said, "Well you didn't die, so look on the bright side." So now, in addition to my medical expenses, I'm out my full $350 for the rental. $250 for a boat we're not using and the other $100 will be issued in the form of a gift card. Which will also go unused as we will never be visiting Tally's again. I understand that they have a normal cancellation policy in place, but given the extreme medical nature of my situation, I would have hoped that Tally's would have a moral and ethical obligation to do what's right. I am shocked and infuriated by this unprofessional and truly appalling behavior. Never again will I give business to a place with such blatant disregard and disrespect for their customers. This is our favorite place in the summer! The Ribs are the best around and the pulled pork is amazing. We love the pulled pork nachos loaded with meat,cheese and beans Music nights are so fun! Great place to meet friends and make new ones. Sitting by White Bear Lake is so lovely. It's slow paced, but relax and enjoy the ambiance! Great service. We rented a pontoon for $70/hour with a fun float for 15/hour and had a lot of fun on white bear lake for2 hours. We were fine chugging along slowly, but the max speed the boat went was 10pm with wind. We then age at Tally's lake side deck. Excellent bbq pies and sandwiches. Highly recommend Tally's. read more

Tally's gets an A+ for ambiance, and a solid D for food. The first time my husband (E) and I visited, we just had drinks. We thought they were expensive, but really tasty - and we loved sitting by the lake on a nice day listening to music. We kept smelling the food - and it smelled so good! We decided to go back and try dinner. Dinner was a huge disappointment. I had chicken tacos that had practically no taste. Where is the delicious smokiness I kept smelling everywhere? It was pulled chicken, on a flour tortilla, with tasteless cabbage and tasteless salsa. I shook hot sauce all over it just to be able to taste something! It came with a side of beans and rice...which also had no spice or flavor whatsoever. E had loaded nachos and though the same thing about his. Overall very underwhelming on the food side of the business. The ambiance is still great, the drinks are still great (albeit expensive) and the location is still awesome. If we go back again, we'll just have a drink and listen to music. We won't be eating here again. read more

We arrived to rent a boat for a three hour ride and spin around the lake. A brand new boat awaited us. It was clean, the young man assisting us was courteous, knowledgeable and had very specific instructions for our use. I drove the boat which was super easy to manipulate and dock. Coming from out of state, I really enjoyed the scenery of White Bear Lake but Tally's ruined the entire visit. We visited on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 6. We waited 20 mins for water and an additional 10min for 2 cocktails, they were out of chicken for the day (remember, this was Sunday lunch), there was only 1 full slab of ribs left which we had to split between two people in our party and sub with another meat. My two meat platter was a joke! 3 small slices of brisket and maybe a forkful of pulled pork on a piece of toast with sweet beans and coleslaw sides for $17!!! Also, who eats beans with a fork?! My wife almost drowned as we decided to go swimming. They only use a 5 pound weight on the boat. And with the anchor down the boat still floated away from my wife who had to have help getting back to the boat with my daughters help. Plus we were threatened with late fees if we went back by 3:45 or 15 minutes earlier so we did not get a full 4 hour. Plus bathrooms not at the site and were a ways away. Definitely will not go back and you can't even anchor to fish. Very dissapointed read more

I went to Tally's with two friends and we commented that we were surprised at how many tables were available on such a pretty night. Well, now I know. The service was awful and the food was mediocre at best. We ordered drinks, a meat platter, a po'boy and a coney dog. The prices were expensive for what we were served. Worst part was I ordered a glass of water and the server pointed to some dirty Igloo coolers that would be more at home on a ball field and told me that I needed to serve myself. No glasses for the water, just child-sized paper kiddy cups. If you're considering going, don't. There was a reason all those tables were available. The smart people went somewhere else. read more

This place shouldn't even be given one star! I'm not sure where to start... We came to pick up the food at the scheduled pick up time and probably waited 20min. We waited even longer for the man to get the salad dressings which were very watery. They did not give us our order of a Reuben. The wedge salad looked disgusting. My salad had expired looking tomatoes and disgusting moldy carrots. My cousins salad had nothing but lettuce. My cousin had these poor tacos that had no sour cream or salsa. Not to mention that the day after she and my second cousin were throwing up. Everyone was very hungry and disappointed with our food. This was to be our last meal with our grandmother who is dying of pancreatic cancer. She had small bites of the pulled pork that was dry as well we a crusty corn bread. I didn't eat my salad as the ranch was watery and it looked disgusting. It's the end of the day at this point we are about to go home I'm starving. Boy oh boy, where do I start. We started going here originally after Covid started since it is outdoors and actually open! Food: 10/10. Incredible BBQ and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg for a decent sized portion. Drink Menu: 10/10. Very large menu and taste fresh and great each time. Around average price for comparable places! Atmosphere: 15/10. No joke, the employees are so friendly and fun, they make me feel welcome every single time I go. During the Summer, they have Therapy Thursday, which they have a local brewery come with some cool merch they raffle off for simply buying their beers! Overall, this might be one of the only good things that Covid brought was finding a new place to meet up with friends for a much needed weekly break for some great food, drinks, and fun.
