The person behind the bar was very friendly (especially as I had wandered behind the bar myself) and (once I had slunk round to the correct side of the counter) served me Summa That (the name of the beer, from the Branscombe brewery). A good pub anytime, but another one that must be even better in the summer when you can take your drink outside. The building dates from the 16th century and the pub has been run by the same family since the late 19th century.

There is the pool table and bar side, the bar side, eating area and the patio next to the river. the food is very nice and the bar stocks a wide range of drinks. Dogs are welcome in all but the official eating area but you can eat anywhere in the pub. Avoid the crowds and explore further up the river (away from the quay) and you will be rewarded.
