This review is about Tallaght Powder Coating and bike frames. If you want another kind of thing coated then my experience is only a little relevant. Take what you think is applicable and ignore the rest.
There are a few steps in the powdercoating process, but I have only a vague idea of the specifics. All I can say is that you give them a bare frameset and they strip the paint, apply powder, cook the lot and then cover everything in lacquer. The process seems to take four or five days from handover to collection. The finished coat is smooth and the colours are vibrant.
I must say that the thickness of the powder layer took me by surprise and some nice details on my seat stays were blurred as a result.
They are happy to apply two or more colours provided the borders between the colours are gradiated. Do not expect them to do sharp borders. The powder is too fine. It gets underneath the masking and the results are messy. They will, quite reasonably, not get involved with applying decals.
The colour you request should be specific and chosen in advance. They will estimate a colour for you, but won't take the responsibility if it all goes horribly wrong. They prefer to get Ral colour codes, but it seems to me that those charts aren't very easily found.
Their customer service is way better than yuppies with odd projects can reasonably expect to find in windy industrial estates west of Crumlin. Jeff and all the rest of the staff are knowledgeable and obliging. They couldn't quite do everything I wanted, but they did do as much as they could. All in all, the results are excellent.
At the moment, the price for coating a frameset in a single colour is €80, €90 if you want a metallic finish. read more
