We spent the morning going over safety procedures at the gun range, shooting from different distances and then we spent the later part of the day learning how we would ideally conduct ourselves while carrying a firearm. And we were also prepared for the next steps to successfully obtain a concealed carry license. Drick is passionate about teaching the community how to handle firearms safely and obtaining the necessary paperwork to do so legally. You will literally have a "blast!" taking this class. I am not currently a gun owner, but I wanted to educate myself on proper usage and the laws regarding gun ownership. I didn't know what to expect but whatever my expectations were, they were greatly exceeded! They were novices such as myself in the class as well as current gun owners and prior military; this was a co-ed class. They had refreshments available, to include good coffee. This is a Black owned business, and I was happy to patronize. I also purchased a unit of pepper gel and a book during our break. We did not go to the range during this class but were told we could go on our own time. I tried to use the "contact us" section of the website to get info about scheduling my range practice. I did not get a response, but this review reminded me to look at pictures I'd taken during class. I have emails and telephone numbers for the instructors, so I'll be reaching out tomorrow. If you're considering taking a course or purchasing a fire arm, you won't be disappointed using Black Diamond.

In my years I have experienced different instructors, but none have shown the perfect balance of comfort, hands on training experience and knowledge presented in such a manner that is relaxing, stress free and to top it off... the ability to build confidence. Jim has a natural ability to place a student at ease, to answer any questions even if they seem simple, encourages discussion and provides education in a manner anyone can understand and relate to. In addition, the method he teaches seems personal and more attentive rather than a large class which seems impersonal and crowded. This allows the student to feel more relaxed and able to soak in the knowledge being presented. A portion of his class was in his classroom which was filled with educational material and material that we could inspect and learn from. He provided lunch then transportation to finish the second part of the class which was held on a private range which was quiet and private. The range portion was just as excellent as it provided an area where we could qualify without the distractions and onlookers a public range would have negatively provided. If you are looking for training whether a beginner, refresher or to gain your certificate this is the best place to choose and I wholeheartedly recommend Jim at Stars & Stripes!

Scouts require that these two merit badge counselors be NRA certificated instructors in Shotgun and Rifle. I found Jim Elliott and it was a great find. Jim teaches a raft of NRA programs which include pistols, rifles, shotguns, reloading, range safety and other programs, like home defense. Just what I was looking for. The initial shotgun course was in his basement home in Tega Cay. Absolutely one of the best small classroom operations I have experienced. Worth a tour. He has great displays of ammunition, guns, training aids and actual guns. You just don't talk about things, you actually can touch them. A very fine set-up. Jim is a super instructor. Emphasis is on safety and applying what you learn to actual operation. You take weapons apart, compare ammunition, watch videos and, ultimately, as part of the training, go to a range and fire the guns. It was a very full day, which included a simple lunch and he drove us to and from the range. A very nice, sincere guy. I am very appreciative of his approach-ability and willingness to teach. I will most likely take other courses that he offers. If you need any type of fire arm training, give him a call. At a minimum he can recommend others, like him, that really care about what they are teaching.

TLDR: you will NOT regret your experience here…read more I doubt I will ever have a better experience with a gun dealer and firearms trainer. I've always been uncomfortable walking into gun stores or shooting ranges, and that was 100% not the case here. The nicest, most knowledgeable, thorough and accommodating folks I have ever encountered. My husband and I are in the market for a hunting rifle and a handgun, and we're a little lost on where to start and what to get and have a pretty tight budget. I searched guns on Apple Maps, and bam, Grey Wolf comes up 10 minutes from home. I check out their website and am amazed to find a 'Try Before You Buy' class where for $25 you can shoot five of their guns with five rounds in each. They had same day openings (on a Saturday) and you can book online on their website. They take Apple Pay in person too, not something you see in most small, home run businesses. We were able to pick five rifles and five handguns, and let me tell you, they have an EXTENSIVE collection to pick from, from antique WWII to the latest and greatest. We had an absolute blast learning about all the different weapons and figuring out what would work best for both of us. The range isn't huge, but for gun safety and training courses or testing out specific weapons, it was more than adequate. My husband had so much fun he wants to go back to try some of their other pieces. We'll definitely be buying the guns we decide upon from them; not just because we enjoy supporting local, small (and veteran owned) businesses, but because Dawn and Jeff were so amazing to learn from and interact with. Also good to note, they never schedule more than one group at a time, so it will just be you and yours learning, practicing, etc. (other than their larger conceal carry courses.)
