Family restaurant with fantastic food and hospitable service!
Two hungry travelers, wandering the chilly streets of Rottweil looking for a late lunch on the Sunday after Fasnet might have found themselves right out of luck. Every restaurant we'd looked at was either closed for the afternoon or on Urlaub for the weekend. Only the Eiscafes seemed to be running a brisk business - despite the gray and drizzly weather. Nearly at our wits' end, we saw signs of life inside the Taj Mahal, so we opened the door and stuck our heads in. We quickly realized they too were closed for the afternoon, but we were beckoned inside and seated anyway. Huzzah!
We soon found ourselves scarfing down a veritable banquet of Poppadums & chutney, Lamb Korma & Chicken Jalfrezi with basmati and naan. The curries were delicious, and not just because we were hungry! Both seemed to have been made independently - not just a basic sauce with a few extra ingredients added to each.
The food was definitely in the top half of Indian restaurants I've ever tried, and much better than expected in a little town in rural Swabia. Extra points for being so hospitable as to seat and serve us even when technically closed! read more
