Awesome first day!
Ray C.

Back from another awesome fishing trip to La Paz with Tailhunter International.  It was my girlfriend's 4th trip down and she's digging it more every year.  On the first day, Captain Victor took no time to put us on a half dozen dorados at Las Arenas. My girlfriend even bounced her first 10-plus pound fish onto the deck.  Before the day was over, she reeled in her first Marlin.  Two great firsts for her.  On the ride back to the hotel, we met a new buddy from Ventura who'd never had a bite at the Tailhunter Cantina over the 20 years he's been coming down.  When we convinced him that Jonathan and Jilly have the best shrimp tacos in La Paz (and San Diego for that matter), he just had to try them.  Sure enough, after we cleaned up and walked down to the Cantina, we see our new pal enjoying what he described as "the best tacos ever"! We fished the La Paz side on the second day.  Captain Joel effortlessly had us on 10 pretty acrobatic mahi mahi.  Girlfriend was exhausted and famished after fishing so off to Tailhunter for drinks and the best tacos in La Paz.  Of course our new pal from Ventura had just finished up a plate of tacos by the time we arrived.  The third day of fishing was kinda short since we had to run back to the hotel and pack up for the flight home.  So Captain Joel quickly found four dolphin fish for us to bag along with a Cabrilla and a Pargo.  Not shabby at all for a quick dip in the water. There just is no competition if you want to experience panga fishing on the Sea of Cortez, have the ability to reel in multiple species with the most skilled and experienced guides, taste the best tacos in La Paz, and enjoy the hospitality and aloha from two of the most beloved people you will ever know (I'm looking at you Jonathan and Jilly). 5 stars for Tailhunter Fishing 5 tacos for Tailhunter tacos 5 gazillion thumbs up for Jonathan and Jilly Thanks again Jonathan and Jilly! We love your show!

San Bartolo

Just returned from my second fishing trip to La Paz. Both times we had Jonathan and Jill at Tailhunter's coordinate everything. From airport pick up, hotel accommodationand most importantly the fishing boats out of Las Arenas and La Paz. Everthing went smoothly as expected thanks to the Tailhunter's! On the ride back to the airport Jorge, the driver stopped by the mountain top town of San Bartolo where we had breakfast of huevos rancheros. If I was to to make one suggestion, I would like to have peanut butter jelly sandwich as a variety instead of 3 days straight of burritos. Hope to be back soon!

We hit limits of yellow fin and Dorado before 9am! Excellent outfit and crew!

This was, by far, one of the most exciting things I've ever experienced! Snorkeling with the whale…read moresharks was absolutely breathtaking and our company, Baja Connections, did an outstanding job! Miguel got us all set up with our equipment, then off we went with our delightful boat captain, Milton, and water guide, Javier. Each was helpful, friendly, and worked to provide us with a most special day. We spent so much time up VERY close with the whale sharks and they gave us the opportunity for many dives. Javier Took a GoPro video of the whole experience and emailed it to us. Milton's love and concern for the creatures, as a marine biologist, was evident. I can't recommend this trip and company enough. Thank you for a wonderful day!

I worked with Trevor at Baja Connections for her arrangements, and I can't say enough good things about the level of service provided. My client arranged private dives, and Baha Connections picked her up at her hotel outside of town in the boat, rather than her needing to come into town each day. They had a great positive attitude, and were able to work with all the detailed and unique requests my client had. Nothing was too difficult for Trevor. The best part was that she LOVED the trip and LOVED the diving. Baja Connections took great care of her while there, and made sure she experienced the best diving in the area. She can't stop talking about them or the diving. I would absolutely work with Baja Connections again, and would definitely consider doing so in other parts of Mexico and beyond - I understand they are creating a program that would combine diving in the Yucatan with diving in La Paz. Trevor has worked in diving all over the world and has an extensive knowledge worth tapping into. Net/net - if you are looking at diving, or any other activities in the area, Baja Connections is a great choice.

We originally booked our trip through Mar Y Aventuras but they couldnt book the tour since they…read moreneeded at least 4 people to go and my wife and I were the only ones that were willing. The company then asked us if we wanted to go snorkeling which we agreed to but little did we know that it was with another company. We later found out when a taxi arrived to take us to the pier which ended up being with Marlin Adventures. At first we were disappointed that we werent booked with our original operator but in hindsight we are so happy. Th tour we got was to snorkel with sea lions. First let us tell you that it didnt start out great. All but 2 of us on this tour were same day bookings. One of the groups was having breakfast and were told to take their time for breakfast. So our 9am departure became 10. We left with tensions high with the angst of losing an hour of our tour (which the company said wouldnt effect the tour and that the hour lost would be gained at the tail end). All the tension was soon alleviated as we departed from the beach. As we are leaving to get our tour started there was pod of dolphins following our boat! The captain proceeded to drive in circles as he saw the delight of the passengers. Some of us went to the front to experience the dolphins jumping from the front and some of us stayed in the back to watch them follow and jump from the rear of the boat. On our way to Espiritu Santo, Arturo, our tour guide came up to me and told me to keep an eye out for whales. Not 3 seconds go by and boom, Whale!!! We then proceeded to follow the whale for the next 20 minutes! Another bonus we got for leaving late! It takes about 2 hours to get to the sea lion colony from La Paz and let me tell you that it was all worth it! The pups like to get up close and personal. They will swim right up to you. My wife later told me that there was one pup swimming and playing right around me constantly trying to stay out of my eyesight. He later jumped over my head and swam away and that was the time that I noticed it. Others will playfully bite your arm if you let it. The people that let the pups bite them told us that it didnt hurt at all, they were just curious. Since they have no hands, biting is how they explore. If you are a diver and with a snorkeling companion, this is a great tour to do. During the tour I also found out that the whale sharks are still there. The whale sharks are supposed to be gone, but they are still there. So after 5 years of trying to find them this was finally my chance. We booked a tour the following day to snorkel with them. The whale sharks are not located far from where we were. After about 20 minutes we found our first one. You see it from the boat and they tell you how big it is, but it doesnt prepare you for when you are in the water and face to face with this gentle giant. We spent maybe an hour with the whale sharks. It could have been longer but I was the only one jumping in at the end so I agreed to head back to town. I do have to tell you that I believe the last whale shark I jumped in with was very curious of me. I was the only on e in the water and I swear that the thing was following me. We just kept going in circles and circles. For both tours we had Arturo. He is very knowledgeable about the area and about the sea life. We found out that his girlfriend is a marine biologist and this is where he gets all his information. He is a little crazy but in a good way. Also before your tour, have breakfast in the place behind the tour office. Sebastian will tell you not to look at the menu and just ask you a bunch of questions to see what to cook. You want american or mexcican? Eggs or no eggs? Hungry or snacky? then he will whip up something for you. If you want he also has "happy butter" for those that need to ease some tension.

Dellis (our tour guide) & Martin (our boat captain) took me and my family out for the whale shark…read moretour. It was an amazing trip! Dellis was excellent with our younger son (9yrs old) who was a little nervous in the water. She was always watching out for everybody in our group to ensure we had a good view of the whale shark. Our boat captain (Martin) did a great job keeping the boat close by so we could alternate going out (we had a total of 7 in our tour group) as there can only be a total of 6 people in the water (to include the guide) at any one time. They provided all the snorkel gear to include wet suits, mask, snorkel & fins. They also had a cooler with complimentary water & sodas for our group. Excellent service and we will be back the next time we are in Baja! They also accept credit cards. Highly recommend this company...their gear & boat are in excellent condition. Plus friendly service make it 5 stars!

Visited March 12-15, 2025. Took the gray whale journey for 3 nights and 4 days with Baja…read moreExpedition, specifically Nautilus (glamping tent which got a free upgrade). I enjoyed the humpback whale expedition which came with a free lunch and drinks. We saw a lot of action not terribly far from shore. They also offered a photo workshop. Believe this is more useful for folks that use a digital camera as opposed to a cell phone camera although she gave some tips on that as well. Both were complimentary (on March 11). There was nothing wrong with the trip per se but there are many parts that occurred to get you to where you end up finally. Everyone was nice but I feel like there is a drop in communication as there are too many parts of the wheel. The charter flight was about 2 and half hours so make sure you use the restroom. There is NO bathroom on board. Also for clothing, please make sure you are covered from head to toe. This is NO joke. The weather may seem hot as hades on shore except at night, prepare for windy freezing conditions (they provided a heater AND heating blankets). When you are on the panga and travelling fast, it will be windy and probably cold. However, when you are waiting for some action, you are under the sun in water. Do NOT wear shorts and bring a cover-up for your face as well. Caps/hats are all good ideas. They offered the gaiters and a wind breaker. I commend the luxury tent. This is really what you are paying for. The fact that you get your own porta-potty and running water was fantastic. The shower had more settings than my own shower. They also offer room service so if you don't want it, please let them know. The food was decent as well. Breakfast is buffet and there is a person who can make you an omelet and the lunch and dinner are plated. Honestly, unless you enjoy the feeling of a 5 star hotel, don't think it was necessary. You honestly don't have that much time to eat during this trip. The time is literally spent getting ready for and the whale excursions. There's a volleyball net, soccer goals & bikes for you but it was so windy and honestly not much time to do any of that. Happy Hour had a different "snack" each day (oyster one was awesome) but no alcohol is free except for the one you get when you get off the plane. The food and service was wonderful. Was every dish a 5? No, but you are in a place where they have to import everything. There is also a nightly 30 minute? presentation given by some of your tour leaders. This tour company had the furthest spot (closest to the airport) so you spend a good 30 minutes (travelling quite fast) to get to the area where the whales are (and don't forget the return trip). We saw plenty of whales but everyone is there to "touch" a whale. The last day there, all the boats in our area did manage to touch one and our boat collided with another panga. Luckily all, including the whale, were unharmed but needless to say, our panga did NOT touch one. It also sounded like the whales were not coming to that area as much anymore. In fact, some were spotted in Cabo. Pro Tips: You should ask they rotate the people on the boats so you're not always with the same captain or panga. If you don't mind sharing a central porta-potty, pick a tour company that is closer to the area where they gather. You will have more free time. Don't drink any diuretics before the panga rides as bathrooms are limited to nature (although some boats do have a bathroom). Pangas that are lower might be better because than when you reach over the boat, you're closer to the surface of the water and don't have to bend over as much. This is a desert area so keep that in mind when packing.

The weather is fairly moderate at that point. Chilly at night and warm during the day. But be prepared for the night time wind. Bring earplugs as the tents slap against the poles most of the night. Not Baja's fault as you can't control the weather. Also, food is decent but keep in mind this is a camp in the middle of a national park so it is not high end resort food. Very good considering the remoteness of the location. Also having your own en-suite bathroom was everything!! No cold walks to the bathroom during the night.
