I saw a couple of the negative reviews & wanted to say that no church is perfect. There are some challenges, like everywhere else but it is a place where they are aware of it. Yes, fellowship is a bit hard to do on Sundays but it doesn't mean there isn't any at all. I've made some friends there & participate in some of the functions. It's really a matter of people finding people. Pastors Phil & Mike T, are two who engage with people in the lobby. Others are not as outgoing but definitely approachable, kind & friendly. If you're looking for a reason to not go to this church, 100% you will find it but if you really want to find a church to attend, you'll find it at NJV. It was different than all the other churches I attended but I really love it there.

You can feel that the Holy Spirit is alive and at work here. The services are so good because the messages are rooted in the Bible, and everything is backed up by scripture. I felt such a strong pull to get baptized here, and I'm so glad I did. On top of that, the community is amazing. They have a group for everything, sports, specific interests, men's and women's groups, and every age from youth to young adults and seniors. I am in a couple groups and I now serve at this church in multiple ways. The reason so much growth happens here is because the foundation is Christ. This church is incredibly blessed, and it has been such a big blessing to me and so many others.

Very memorable and beautiful liturgy. Construction began in1904 but wasn't completed until 1924. Architecturally modern in design with some classic elements incorporated. The apse is inspiring with the dome painted to look like the stars of heaven, quote from Book of Revelation, and image of the Holy Spirit represented by a dove in the center of the dome. The suspended wooden crucifix is positioned above the sanctuary and the entire nave is inspiring and well laid out. Particularly of note are the antique stations of the cross with their delicate, hand painted and beautiful colors. Highly recommended. Mahalo for reading my review.

The doors are wooden and open during service times to welcome everyone. The church has the basics like holy water, candles, and the twelve stations. The church is very pretty but not gaunt. Everyone was very kind, friendly and welcoming. The pastor led the service in prayer. The youth were engaged in playing guitars and singing religious songs. They also had guest speakers from a religious ministry program that does outreach to francophone West African immigrants in NYC. Thereafter, the pastor invited us to join the congregation in a potluck dinner. They hold such dinners once a month where worshippers get to share a meal and get to know each other over a meal. We were amazed to find that some people have been members of the congregation for 20 years! Also congregation members are of various ethnic groups - Caucasian, African American, African, Latino and Asian as well as mixed. They invited us to return to their church for regular service as well as additional prayers. Thank you, Pastor Rick and Ms. Claudette! Oh. I forgot to mention that the church is in a delightful little White House shared by other churches with service in Spanish, Chinese and Korean.

We ended up having a private baptism since no one was scheduled at the same time. It was great as we took tons of pictures which each of our family members. We never felt rushed. We visited again for another occasion and the Pastor was once again very friendly and very personable. If I lived closer I would come for regular service. The major con part is that it's in a busy section of town and there is only street parking (that I know of) which is VERY hard to find. Luckily we knew that and all piled into one car. I will definitely go back. Sorry I forgot about pics (next time).
