Do not come here expecting anything resembling American medicine. His practices are holistic and herbal. He gave me a thorough consultation, cupping treatment, then recommended herbs and salts. For those who commented on pricing, I believe it's difficult for him to give a price until he has a diagnosis. From what I experienced, there is a consultation fee, treatment fee, then cost of products. You can refuse the products, but what's the point if that's also what's needed to help you? He did a great job with the initial consultation, and helping me to understand my "Qi" or energy more. I went to him for labor induction as I was at 41 weeks, and a day after visiting my baby moved into an anterior position (ideal birthing position). His consultation consisted of food that matched my bodies energy levels, as well as suggestions for optimal sleep times and meal pacing, and exercises for me to do during the rest of my pregnancy. I was told of the consultation of $99 which I was fine with, and thought that included the therapy. However, this was the cost break down at the end: $99 for consultation $50 for the actual accupuncture/cupping treatment $53 for really pure salt. Stanley Chang is the BEST! The real deal!!! I just read Laura B and want to emphatically state that I can vouch that Chang would never scam anyone. Never. He may not understand you (Korean is his native tongue), but he is never dishonest. A negative review like that should be a last resort for someone intentionally trying to cheat you. You intentionally, ... shamefully ... made a mockery of his practice. Chang is an amazing healer, using Oriental practices, kinesiology, and other techniques for diagnosis. He offers diet, exercise, teas and cupping and acupuncture to release blocked energy and to allow your body to move away from "dis-ease." Everyone is unique and he can identify the foods and daily lifestyle that will bring you back to balance and ease. Dr. Stanley is the best. He has changed my life over the last ten years. His treatment involves detailed initial consultation. From that he gives you a dietary program and exercise regime that is specific to you. He then treats you with acupuncture and cupping sessions that are matched with herbal supplements. Summary: I expected a $30 consultation as promised in the coupon I presented to Dr. Chang at the start of our appointment, and instead ended up feeling scammed by "bait-and-switch" sales tactics, resulting in a bill of $225, which I haggled my way down to $70. Additionally, Dr. Chang did not explain most of the treatments that he performed on me (and later tried to charge me for). All in all, not a great experience. More details below. I'm completely new to traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, so when I scheduled an initial consultation with Dr. Chang, I had no idea what to expect. I'd received a coupon in the mail offering a "1+ hour" consultation for $30 (normally $95 or so). The consultation ended up taking about 1.5 hours, and Dr. Chang did a number of things during our appointment. I filled out a short form and answered some questions about my general health and eating/sleeping habits. Then he performed a series of "tests" to determine my primary body type (you could be 1 of 4, mine is "cold" apparently) and which foods/drinks were best for my body. These tests involved me sitting with both hands at chest-level, palms up. Dr. Chang had me try to press my right thumb and ring finger tips together, and he tried to pull them apart as I repeated certain words (body parts, foods, etc.). The theory is that if your fingers pull apart easily, you should avoid that particular food, or that part of your body is not in good health; and if he can't easily pull your fingers apart, the inverse is true. I'm not sure I buy into this concept, but alas, I played along. Then Dr. Chang discussed the importance of blood pH and a particular type of salt (not pink, which he said was bad). Next, he performed a few massage techniques on my neck, shoulders, arms, and legs, while having me breathe deeply and twist in various ways. Then he demonstrated a few exercises for me to do (more like fast, repetitive stretches) to benefit my lymph and blood vessels. Lastly, he had me lie face-down on his massage table, but gave me no warning that he was about to perform cupping and acupuncture. So I laid there for about 10 minutes with a dozen suction cups placed on my back, feet, and hips, and needles in my ears and ankles. It wasn't painful per se, just unexpected and a tad uncomfortable. Dr. Chang then removed everything and had me sit up so he could perform a second round of the massage techniques. And then we were finished. He took me to his desk and pointed at a scrap of paper atop a pile of products (salt, blood pH balancing drops, tea, and dried pine sap). On the paper was a breakdown of the costs of my visit - totaling $225! I held up my coupon that promised a $30 consultation and said "I'm sorry, but I came here for the $30 consultation, so I'll pass on the products and just pay for the treatment you performed". He rattled off a few new numbers and somehow I ended up paying $70, rather than the $30 I'd expected. So, long story short, I felt like I'd been scammed by bait-and-switch sales techniques. Maybe it was the culture/language barrier, but Dr. Chang did not fully explain the treatments he was performing throughout our appointment, and I was shocked by my bill at the end of our session. If a patient comes in and presents a coupon at the start of the session, clearing explaining what they're there for, and you perform additional treatments without their consent, then tack on a bunch of products and attempt to charge them nearly 10x what they expected to pay, that's a scam. Whether or not you believe in traditional Eastern medicine/practices, you should not be suckered into receiving or paying for a treatment that wasn't fully explained to you, without your consent. Example - if I had known that the cupping treatment would leave large welts all over my back (imagine huge, perfectly round hickies) for up to THREE WEEKS, and if Dr. Chang had given me a warning before performing this treatment, I might have opted out. So all in all, I was not very happy with my experience at Tae Pyung Acupuncture. I'm still interested in learning more about traditional Chinese medicine and techniques (i.e. acupuncture), but in the future I'd definitely find a practitioner with whom I felt more comfortable - and someone who clearly explains their process and costs of services. read more
