Tijuana on a budget? This place fits the bill.
We spotted Tacos Luz when sitting on the balcony of the brewery across the street and said, "tacos for five pesos, why not?!" It depends on what the local businesses are converting pesos to dollars at, but it should be anywhere between 12:1 or 15:1. Yeah, that's potentially $0.33 tacos. Gimme!
Our order consisted of almost 35 tacos most of them fully loaded (con todo), which was onions, cilantro and a guacamole salsa depending on the taco.
Birria: No guacamole salsa. Just some juicy seasoned birria with onions and cilantro.
Carne asada: A bit dry but easily corrected with a healthy dose of their smokey salsa.
Carnitas: Served with everything with a nice char to the meat.
Tripa: Only taco I didn't try but others in my group declared this to be the winner.
We also grabbed a basket of freshly fried chips, a big bowl of guacamole and eight bottles of water. The grand total? $30.00. I'm guessing some of the tacos didn't fall in the five peso range, the waters were inflated and the guac carried a bit of a price tag, but for $5.00 a person including a generous tip, it was a great little cheap meal for eight of us! read more
