Gettting street tacos..
Sergio Z.

Finding Mexican food and especially tacos that I really enjoy I travel to East L.A. because many these mom and pops stand up and food trucks they are wide spead in East L.A.. My mom tooks myself and my wife to East L.A. for tacos she took us to her favorite Mexican food truck trailer called Tacos Gavia. The food trailer is just next to O'Riley auto part store and El Super super market.

Best tacos I have ever had! I went in 2019 and I have not gotten over the amazing flavor that these tacos had NO WHERE has been able to compare to how good these tacos are. I'm from south Florida and I was told to go to a truck near by this one and thee smell coming from this truck stopped my family dead in their tracks and made us turn about face and head straight to tacos gavia I wish I had pictures of the food but I had to find a picture of the truck just to relive the moment I ate at this truck

Tried the tripa, pastor, cabeza and dorado de barbacoa. All were legit!

Tried the tripa, barbacoa, cabeza, pastor and barbacoa. Most places will get one or the other right but this spot was on point with everything!! Can also get tacos dorados, they're a lil more expensive $1.75 i think but def worth it, so good! I paid cash so not sure if they accept cards here. Prob the best taco truck I've tried in LA

This corner spot has great tacos! 2 for $1 Wednesdays, they have hand made tortillas for the quesadillas. They even have birria and barbacoa on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Nice work

1 star for the hot sauce, which is the only good thing in this joint. Tiny tacos lack meat and flavor plus they are hella greasy.

The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. You'll want to add hellaaa green sauce to everything- I could literally drink that stuff straight. Love the big easy parking lot here, I'll mention that I saw a few security people checking all the cars and plates so I wouldn't recommend trying to park here and walk somewhere else!

I was able to snag two tacos for $4.50 that tided me over until dinner time. Now: bring your car because there's no place to sit! I arrived on foot, so dined standing up. Quite a variety of means - I'm a "safe" eater and enjoyed pollo and asada. I loved the self-serve salsas; the green salsa was delish and had a good little kick to it. Happy to have found this spot, and want to come back! 2026: 32/100

tl;dr: come here if you want best value and don't want to drive too far into South LA for authentic…read moreTj tacos. They don't know much English but that's okay and don't be intimidated! They're really friendly and the tacos does all the talking here. Everything from tortilla, salsa, guac, and meat was great but not like I haven't tasted the flavors before. The thing is, this place does every component right, which in my opinion, makes a perfect taco. Usually you find a spot that has bomb af meat, but the salsa lacks flavors. There are some places that has great tortillas but the prices suck and they don't know to season or control their grill. This place got the process down and for $2.50, I'd say it's perfect (more consistent in taste than Tacos Los Poblanos). I went when it was not busy at all but the taste was all there ~ that's saying something for street food. They do their meats right. Asada was surpsingly juicy even though it wasn't straight from the mesquite grill. Most Tj taco stands' asada gets dry and withered when it sits, but this place most likely marinaded, grilled at the right temp, or chose the right cut of beef because it didn't give me a mouth feel of dried meat and juicy salsa/onion taste. Tacos should have all the ingredients compliment each other, not there to compensate for one ingredient's lack of quality. I wished it was because it was a tad light on the smokey flavor; the seasoning/saltiness was perfect so that made up for it. Pastor was chunky and flavorful, went really well with their salsa and guacamole. It's not the thinly sliced kind at some spits, but more similar to pork chop. I kinda like this because the meat is juicer and has a nice bite to it. Great salt and sweetness balance for sure. Adobada was pretty tasty as well; I don't eat this often since most stands/trucks don't do this (usually you find it in restaurants). It tasted like a stewed version of their pastor. Just try it and you most likely will like it. They put two salsa onto your tacos. One is a blended pico de gallo style salsa (I almost wouldn't call this pico but idk how else to describe it...tomato-dominant salsa that's not the typical salsa roja). It exude flavor that went so well with the meat; there's a nice tomato acidity that went well with it's spicy (mild but present), and I really liked this (most places just put one salsa on top). The second salsa is those orange-beige colored one similar to red salsa, it was the major spicy component of the taco. Their corn tortilla is made on the spot, bomb as usual; a bit dry however mine was from the tortilla warmer (it wasn't busy, I only bought 5 tacos. Can't complain). Usually Tj style taco spots water down their guacamole (literally more watery or added tomatillos) but this place taste like pure avocado (right texture and thickness). This is a real nice treat since most places don't do pure guacamole ~ no fillers here for sure. On top of that $2.50 for Tj style taco in this economy? It's a win for me. A new favorite taco spot.

At $3 per taco, I didn't feel it was worth it…read more They are tiny street tacos so you'll probably will get two bites out of them. I have had their tacos before when they had their brick and mortar and was not impressed then and not impressed now. The cecina was way, way too salty. The asada and pastor were better, but I don't think I will be back for a third try because I have had better. The tortillas are handmade there on the spot, but the meat could have tasted better. The reason to go is for the handmade tortillas. I believe they were charging $2.50 at their brick and mortar and on the street they are now charging $0.50 more. The pastor or adobada tacos at Tacos Tamix and Tacos 1986 are more satisfying to eat in comparison. I would not go out of my way to here. If you were close and had to choose a meat, I would stick to their asada tacos only. My favorite asada tacos in LA are still in Sylmar at Taqueria Mi Ranchito taco truck. If you're willing to drive up there, those are destination tacos. Another San Fernando Valley taqueria to try is Taqueria Tijuanense. They operate a food truck at a park in Lake Balboa and have a brick and mortar near Northridge mall. Get the Tijuana-style asada tacos or the quesabirria tacos. I get that ingredients are more expensive these days, but at $3 a pop for two bites, you better be serving up some amazing street tacos.
