Agave Blue Tequila & Taco Bar…read more 627 St Roch Ave, Gonzales, LA 70737 #tonylameats This was actually my first time checking out Agave Blue with the family, and man... the food, atmosphere, and view definitely did not disappoint! Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and packed with authentic vibes. Here's what we ordered: GOBERNADOR (favorite) Grilled tacos loaded with shrimp and queso Oaxaca. These were hands down the star of the table. CARNITAS Tender pork tacos topped with cilantro and onions. Simple but packed with flavor. LENGUA Tongue tacos topped with cilantro and onions. Super tender and well seasoned. FLAUTAS 4 crispy chicken taquitos topped with queso fresco, lettuce, sour cream, and tomatillo sauce, served with a side of rice. If you're looking for good food, great vibes, and a spot to kick back with family or friends, definitely come check this place out! Tonylameats Approved

We recently visited Agave Blue in Gonzales, LA, and unfortunately, the experience went downhill…read morealmost immediately. We ordered a Pinot Grigio and an Alamos Malbec. Our waitress returned with the Pinot Grigio and informed us that the bartender didn't know what a Malbec was. Seriously? We actually had to show her the wine listed on their own menu and explain that Malbec is a red wine. She eventually returned with it, but to make matters worse, my red wine was cold, while my husband's white wine was lukewarm. We knew we weren't off to a great start! For dinner, we ordered the Elotes and the Sampler. I was especially excited about the Elotes, but one bite was all it took. The amount of lime was so overpowering it literally made your mouth pucker! When our waitress asked how everything was, I politely explained the issue. She apologized and removed the Elotes from our bill, which we appreciated. Then came the check. We noticed we were charged $9.50 per glass of wine when the menu clearly listed them at $8 each. We pointed out the $3 overcharge, expecting a simple correction. Instead, our waitress said she needed to speak with her manager. For what? Just correct the bill! We sat there for approximately 10 minutes watching the waitress and manager converse at the hostess podium while the hostess appeared more interested in flirting with the young men seated nearby. Finally, frustrated with the unnecessary wait, I walked over and asked what the problem was and why they couldn't simply correct the bill. That's when the manager, Chris, looked at me and said, "You're complaining about $1?" Excuse me?! First of all, it was $3, not $1. Second, IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE MONEY! It was about being charged correctly, receiving decent service, and being treated with respect. Chris ultimately removed one glass of wine from the bill, leaving us paying $9.50 for the other. Financially, we came out fine, but that completely missed the point. Mistakes happen. Food isn't always going to be perfect. Employees are still learning. I understand all of that. But when a manager responds to a legitimate customer concern with sarcasm instead of professionalism, that's a much bigger problem. What concerned me most was the apparent lack of training, supervision, and leadership. It felt like a group of inexperienced young employees had been left to run the restaurant without proper direction. A restaurant can survive an occasional bad dish or billing mistake. What it can't survive is management that makes customers feel like they're the problem for pointing it out. We left disappointed, not because of $3, but because of how we were treated.

The creamy green salsa in the squeeze bottle was delicious and super spicy which I love! Honestly it was the best thing of all. The salsa served complimentary with chips was very plain tomatillos sauce. The side of refried beans tasted like canned to me and the birria tacos ($18 for 4 with ample sauce) just were not the best. I'll go back and try something else next time. The waitress was great. I do realize it's hard to compare 98% of authentic Mexican restaurants to my F go-to authentic restaurant La Mexicana (with a market in front) which closed down on Siegan a couple months ago. I went there for at least 7 years on the regular and let me tell you.. the dishes were amazing and even their refried beans & rice at La Mexicana tasted like they were cooked completely from scratch .. like a true home cooked taste by a talented cook and I keep trying new places out looking for my new favorite.

We typically start with the fresh guacamole. Most of the time we order the birria however, we have also tried the gringa (basically a quesadilla). This place is more traditional and/or authentic Mexican than most places in the Baton Rouge and Prairieville area. The staff is always very sweet and you usually get your food in timely manner.
