If you're looking for a place that serves the region's largest variety of taco options, this place…read moreis probably it. We had to visit multiple times to take in those options, and we can also say that their tortillas are among the best, namely because they are built to contain those fillings, unlike others that are simply not quite up to the task. Here are a few tips that we'd like to pass on from what we've learned: - The Lomitos offering is one of the best, bursting with flavor and smokiness. I think it's often overlooked, so definitely grab one of these. - The Lechon, Cochinita, and "Pork Belly" are all great, flavorful and juicy. You can't really go wrong with these, though the "Pork Belly" may not be what you expect, so read on. - The Castacan is the crunchy skin and pork belly that most Westerners think of, so if you're looking for that experience, this is your taco. - The Asado Yucateco (beef) is solid, but a little dry. Pork options are going to dominate it. - The artisanal cerveza is a great pairing with their tacos. If you are a beer snob, it's worth the extra cost. - We think you can pass on the queso fundido. It was more of a cheese blob than what we prefer in a fundido. Plenty of tacos to placate your hunger, so this can be a pass. - The light brown salsa is great, with excellent flavor. The small, dark brown salsa is a tongue-melter, so proceed with caution. I'm a pepper belly, but that salsa probably overwhelmed the great taco flavors, so just know that. Overall, a great place to get the variety and explore it. Seating was comfortable, and service was efficient, though not very chatty. They can get busy at times, which just speaks to the popularity of a well done taco. If you follow the given advice, you may have more of a 5-star experience. We had some of the misses, so you don't have to, though part of the fun is your own exploration. Buen gusto!

First of all, the hype is REAL! I went to the Suc. Circuito location around 11:30 before lunch on…read morea Saturday. I was told locals go here in my area for a quick lunch and it seemed to be the case. All the tables were full but there was no wait. Simple but sturdy wooden chairs and tables, simple decor but well shaded and comfortable. Service was fast, I mean sit down, order tacos, get a drink, get tacos, slather tacos in salsa, inhale tacos, smile in around 3 minutes! Then do it again. I don't normally eat grain, so this was a special, "had to eat it" treat, but the simplicity of the food and absolute mastery of this cook made the experience dream worthy. I started off with Agua Fresca de Jamaica, 2 Poc Chuc Tacos, and a Pollo Poblano. They had 3 salsas varying from Tomato no spicy to Tomatillo mas spicy. I went with a few drops of the Mediano spicy and a bit more of the Tomato no spicy. Honestly, the Poc Chi Tacos needed nothing, the Pork was flavorfully seasoned and well cooked. The pollo Poblano was tasty with thin slices of poblano sautéed with chicken. While tasty as well, I had just eaten my Poc Chuc taco first so it was a bit less favored, I was ready for Poc Chuc taco #2. Next I ordered two sauces tacos. They were out of the Chicarrones Rojo Taco, but I was also excited to try the Cochinita and Carne Adobada which the waiter told me was their take on Al Pastor with pineapple. I got pickled onions on the Cochinita and it was lightly sauced. No added salsa for this round. The flavor was amazing! My fave of the day was Poc Chuc, wonder what adding pickled onions to that would be like? Prolly my dream dish! I might just go back to order the Guisados to go and make my own taco bowl at home. (It looked like they offered this) That way I can cut the grain out and still enjoy the super yummmm! Cost was what I perceived as affordable about $Mx20 per taco, (upcharge for Tortas as an option, or premium tacos like Cochanita) not sure how this compares to other Taquerias because it will likely be my only tacos to try this visit, but I thought it was well priced and reasonable. I believe they only accept cash, but I assumed this and had cash, so I suggest you don't try going without cash. What a treat, and how grateful I am to have experienced such a beloved spot!

They were busy, cannot deny that…read more Service was just okay, tacos were just okay. If you're nearby and just have to go, do. Don't make a special trip. There's so many unbelievable taco places that will impress you this just isn't it.

You pick green or red and then what peppers you want them to use. It was absolutely delish. Especially when you put it on your homemade hot corn tortillas the chilaquiles were good, but not the best I had while I was there. I would have to say the highlight was the churros. They came out pipping hot and were simply fantastic with my coffee. It was a great experience and when I go back it will definitely be a place a go too. The staff were all very friendly and smiling. They had someone there that could speak English so that was a plus. Google translate can only do so much. Ha ha

If you're looking for fancy, this is not for you. -The service was very good! One of the servers spoke English and he was very friendly and helpful. -I ordered 3 pork tacos, and it came with just the meat. You can add 3 different salsas, onions, cilantro, and/or lime wedges if you like. -These are some of the best tacos I've ever had. Delicioso! Highly recommended!!

No options, except the menu also mentions Buche tacos which is pork stomach, when we ordered so we both got Crispy pork chunks and a tray of diced onion, salsas and lime wedges, which complemented the food well and added the heat I was in search of. No English spoken here but the young waiter was friendly and persevered with us. We left feeling happy! Total bill was 166 pesos (7 tacos and two cokes).

On our 21 day Yucatecan culinary quest, we ventured all throughout Centro Mèrida, and feel ready to…read morecrown the prized Cochinita Pibil winner. Taqueria La Lupita - Congratulations on your victory! To the uninitiated, let's spend a moment on discussing the regionally renowned Cochinita Pibil. This is a slow-cooked pork dish, made as a hybrid of traditional Mayan and more modern New World techniques, much as its name is a hybrid of Spanish (cochinta = little pig) and Mayan (pib = pit-cooked) itself. Traditionally it's cooked while wrapped in banana leaves, flavored with spices (especially achiote) and left in an underground pit oven for a LONG time. When done properly, it's a juicy, tangy, savory, delight that can go in a taco, a torta, or whatever you fancy. Taqueria La Lupita does serious volumes of business, and a highlight is certainly their cochinita pibil. But, they are more than a one-trick caballo. During our extended stay, we visited TLL several times, and got to try both form factors (tacos, salbutes, panuchos, tortas, polcan) as well as meats (cochinita pibil, relleno negro, lechon al horno, escabeche). We still couldn't try everything, and certainly not every combination. But we sure loved our experience throughout, even for the items that were not notable winners. This place is popular for all the right reasons: Deliciousness, variety, service, value, experience. Even when it was a bit busy, they have a lot of tables, and we had really good service there. Don't get discouraged by a little wait time...it's the best option we found in Santiago Plaza/Market. Some places in Mèrida may have struggled to maintain their experience after being highlighted by Netflix or Youtube programs, but Taqueria La Lupita has stayed true, and we couldn't have been more delighted by our visits there. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Unfortunately, It was not worth the hype for me. Bland and hard tortillas. Not for me.read more
