    Tacos yummy enough to share

It seems my previous words about TJs were less than glowing. I won't revisit the issue that I must've allowed to get under my skin. Tonight, being Thursday, I am again a customer on behalf of my daughter. I really like TJs food but I truly prefer another place when I want a taste of Americanized Mexi foodstuff. But the potato oles kick ass and I nearly always get myself a large order alongside what I get for Nicole. Today however I'm a walk in visitor. It's been ages since I've been inside. What I first observe is a fully staffed kitchen of business. Clean stainless. Every visible surface. Excellent. Last week I stopped here, or rather intent on stopping I instead had to drive on by. Why? I wasn't sure. But they were dark. Today I saw that the driveway was refaced and lines painted anew. Again: an owner taking the costs of keeping the place fully fit. The dining area was plush with families enjoying themselves. Excellent. Floors and tables unfettered with debris. I really would appreciate a second Madison location again. 20yrs ago I used to visit the other one. I'd surely go again.

Not sure what's going on here. The place is filthy. Almost every empty table had food slobbered on it. The floor felt like there was a layer of oil on it...almost fell a number of times when I first came in. I'm guessing this is no longer owned by the Klinzings, because no way would they be OK with the conditions. So sad because we will travel across town to come to the only TJ's in the area. May not return..... 1 month later I was stupid enough to give it another try and.... Just when I thought 1 Star was being tough! HA! How about -5 stars!!! Please don't waste your time, especially in the drive up. They NEVER EVER EVER get an order correct. I think we will be driving 2 hours to the Black River Falls or perhaps the one south of Madison. This is so incredibly disappointing.

Overcooked dry donut bites missing frosting

CUSTOMER BEWARE On our last visit the employees were great except the off the clock one who was hanging out debating his views on the wall and food stamps with a customer. Dakota was very attentive. The food wasnt so good. Today the employees were argumentative and a little rude. The tacos were FULL of grease. Not a couple drips but like an eighth of a cup in each taco. The donut bites were quite overcooked and had hardly any frosting. The menu says the mexi rolls come with a dipper but the employees charge a dollar extra and then argue with you, and when you ask them to actually read the menu, they still argue. Then the manager says just give it to him this time. How many people has this staff cheated? Those dollars add up. Customer beware.

Great imitation Mexican food. The potato ole's are the serious bomb diggity. Memories of the taco burger dance in my mind each time I visit. As a side note squirrels love the ole's. Want to bring all the squirrels to your yard? Bring the potato ole's!

The chips and salsa came on a robot right away, which was a fun touch except our littlest kid was terrified. They have many kids options as well. We got kids quesadillas and kids burrito, quesadilla, fajita burrito, and enchiladas with margaritas. The drinks and food came quickly and were overall good. The burrito is huge and enough for multiple people to share. Overall the portion sizes were very large. I would have loved if the chips were warmed! Service 5/5: our waiter was very attentive and was flexible with us with our kids. Overall very accommodating. Ambiance 3/5: whenever I'm in a restaurant and it's empty, I always wonder why. Overall the booth we were at was cozy and there is plenty of space between tables. There is a claw machine at the entrance that our kids were obsessed with. We did leave with our clothed smelling like a Mexican restaurant (almost like a stinky ground beef smell). Overall this is a great option for people looking for a large menu and Mexican style food. The staff were friendly and the food was solid. I wish I could give a 3.5, but will round up instead.

The entrance had cute decor, some of which was clearly set up for Cinco de Mayo, and then you walk through the bar area to a waiting area for tables. I assume this is so patrons can wait at the bar if the restaurant is full, although that was not the case for us. We were seated right away and had chips, salsa, and water on the table just as quickly. Everyone was extremely friendly. After reviewing the menu a little bit we noticed a $5 house margarita deal so ordered those. They were really good and a great price. The complimentary chips and salsa were good as well. The chips seemed homemade but possibly earlier in the day as they weren't super fresh. We ordered the queso fundido based on another review and the shrimp tacos. They were both absolutely fantastic! The queso fundido was the best I've ever had and my husband said the shrimp tacos were the best he's ever had. There was so much meat in the tacos I'm glad we only got one order. Also they are served with spicy mayo, beware it is very spicy! We were too full for dessert but will definitely visit again to see if the rest of their menu is as good as the two items we ordered this time. The only idea for improvement would be to have some music playing and maybe more decor in the main dining room to add to the atmosphere a little bit.

Not to mention great drinks. The menu is pretty large, and this is some delicious Tex-Mex/Mexican food. I ordered the fajitas and had extra to take home for the next day as leftovers. The margaritas are pretty big and the price is quite reasonable. They also have non-alcoholic Corona and non-alcoholic margaritas, so there are options for everyone. We had a group of 8 meet here recently for book club and we all had a range of great drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The chips and salsa are on point. I would come here way more often if they had an a la carte street tacos option with the cilantro and onion. There's an asada tacos meal (with the rice/beans and all that) which I am hoping to try sometime soon. A great little local spot that I definitely recommend!
